Wish we grabbed Grundy when we had the chance :( with frawley being a FA changes the game alot and is definitely a must have for this team. Other then that Giles is serviceable until we either land a big fish or develop our own. What's ryders status if anyone knows?

players we would likely keep

Taylor Adams
Liam Sumner
Anthony Miles
Nick Haynes
Kurt Aylett

players likely to be kept but could be traded for the right offer

Sam Darley
Shaun Edwards
Josh Growden
Josh Bruce
Gerald Ugle

Players who need to show more or could be shown the door

Nathan Wilson
Mark Whiley
Tom Downie
Sam Schulz

Plus you have Brogan & Cornes moving into coaching roles f/t, and I don't see Thornton playing next year. So there really could be a mini clean out. So it could be a very interesting trade period for us at the years end.

What would you think would be a fair offer for the guys I've bolded? Keeping in mind our first round pick will probably be between 3-6 and second round between 19-24. The only way I could see it happening is through an upgrade of picks (like we did with Brian Lake last year, say Easton Wood + second round pick for Taylor Adams + third round pick), but you guys might have a better idea.

Looking at the U.S Combine results have to say I wouldn't mind us giving this guy a shot on our rookie list:

AMERICAN decathlete David Grzesiak has shown he has some AFL traits after impressing in the opening two days of the USA AFL combine in Los Angeles.

The 195cm Grzesiak, who competed at Olympic trial level in the track decathlon and also has a background in American football, won the agility run with a time of 8.11 seconds.

Along with Matt Sauey and Cliff Ederine, Grzesiak also jumped 86cm in the standing vertical jump, breaking the record of 85cm.

To emphasise his athleticism, Grzesiak also excelled in the three-kilometre time trial, winning in 10 minutes and 34 seconds, almost a minute ahead of second-placed Taylor Broekhuis.

Maybe if he's not getting a game by the end of the year, Majak Daw anyone? Obviously blessed with talent, combined with a need for a ruckman, but also having someone of Sudanese descent could really open up the game to some of the Sudanese community in the area. Some unbelievable athletes, could bring a different dimension to the game

Just read that Boyd played in the ruck in Europe for the ais squad, he's over 200cm and over 100kgs so sounds like this years daniher! If we can't land NN then Boyd could play part time ruck with giles until he matures and rest in the fwd line with Patton/cameron ... Amazing stuff!!!

I asked that of some of the draft watchers on BF, and their comment was basically that that was the first time Boyd had rucked and it was basically because the AIS squad had no one else over 196cm or so.

@emmasq Heard Boyd played in the ruck in Europe tour is that a one off or is he this years daniher? And how did he go?

And her reply:

Usually would start in the ruck & then go forward, it was a pretty small group.

Sounds like as you were saying just filling in as they were short handed

Drafting a ruckman is no good. Ruckmen always take years to develop. We need to trade for one that is already built. Or we need to get Phillips up and about. What is his story anyway. I haven't seen him on an injury list and I haven't seen him play at all this year.

Phillips is actually out injured but should be back playing nealf this week.

Boyd is considered the short favorite for number 1 pick. He's an athletic key forward/ruck similar to Cameron rather then Patton. Essentially a Joe daniher mk2 I see more use for him then say aish

I am still hopefull of avoiding the No1 pick but if we do get it we should use it to trade for a senior player, we have heaps of young stars but we need some old heads out there

The players worth pick 1 either won't swap teams or their teams won't trade them.

Lots of nice names on that list, but the chances of getting some of them are about the same as me running out for the Giants in next year's grand final.

Maybe Max Bailey for the ruck, but I've never been a big fan (and neither are a lot of hawthorn supporters)
Ditto David Hille (injuries?)
Josh Hunt from Geelong would give another solid body down back with a rifle left foot coming out. Old, but not too old, one or two years. Lots of experience.

Apart from that Franklin, Hodge and Mitchell from Hawthorn. Jonathan Brown from the lions. Adam Goods and Jude Bolton, just to piss the swans off and Scott Thompson for a midfield partner to Callan Ward. :D :p ;)

Bailey - won't ever leave Hawthorn, unlike Young he actually knows a bit about loyalty.
Hale - not sure why you'd go after him, not a great ruckman.
Franklin - time will tell I guess, certainly don't think he'll stay.
Hodge - just re-signed.
Mitchell - just re-signed.

Alot of the names I like in that list are also team first players and unlikely to leave and the ones moat likely to leave hardly fill a need. But the names we can most likely poach that serve an
Immediate need are selwood, firrito and cooney

In terms of ruckman i believe your best shots are at Warnock and Jamar. Both are proven number 1 ruckman that will be able to handle the majority of the ruck. I think and this is not just because im a carlton supporter that you guys should look at warnock. He is a great ruckman and would be playing in most sides that didnt have a gun ruckman, hes being wasted at carlton and based just on the weekend when he beat cox has shown he is more than capable.

He would be starting ruckman at GWS, collingwood, Geelong, Hawthorn, Melbourne, Port Adelaide, Freemantle (sandi always out), Bulldogs.

What do you think you guys would offer for him? I think he is worth around pick 17-25. If Adams or Sumner wanted to go back to Vic would a trade be worthwhile?

Apparently both Mumford and Leuenberger are only signed up to the end of the year and have to say I would rather either one of those guys rather then Warnock.

Also Just noticed that Pearce Hanley is uncontracted after this year so would like to think we would have a crack at getting him but no doubt Brisbane are working very hard to lock him away.

Also for depth and for a player who wouldn't cost much trade wise Andrejs Everitt might be worth a look. And on the plus side of Leuenberger, Hanley and Everitt they are all 24 so a nice age to get them on board.
