But in the article that mentioned us re-signing sumner it decided to focus on the players that remained unsigned - typical

But at least we know we have signed the ones that matter

That is quite possibly one of the funniest articles I've read. Thanks for the link.
THE GWS Giants are yet to re-sign up to 14 of the best young players in Australia.
...they have a huge challenge to hold on to their entire list of uncontracted players.
Headlined by No.7 draft pick Nick Haynes and former All-Australian under-18s emerging stars Anthony Miles, Josh Bruce and Sam Darley, rival clubs are understood to be interested in luring unsigned GWS players to their club later this year.
The reason they haven't been contracted past this year yet is because they're not in our best 22. We've got 26 players signed up to 2015, and another seven to 2014. We've prioritised re-signing our best players and as much as I like Bruce and Miles, they don't seem to be able to crack a spot in our team at the moment.
Giants list manager Stephen Silvagni and Graeme 'Gubby' Allan last night refused to comment on the alarming number of players yet to re-sign...
Alarming? It's approximately 1/3rd of our list, i.e. the same fraction of any list that comes off contract in a given year.
"They are certainly going to have their hands full trying to hold on to them all.
"There are players there who aren't getting a game at the moment.
"Some of them would be able to walk on to other AFL lists and get a game. How many times can you get 40 possessions in the NEAFL and not play in the AFL?"
a) I'm pretty sure we have no expectations to hold on to them all. After all we still need to delist players to take three picks minimum in this year's draft (and will probably take more).
b) How many times can you get 40 possessions in the NEAFL and not play in the AFL? Shitloads. As a Lions supporter who pays attention to their reserves in the NEAFL for the last few years (results, not actual games), the NEAFL is not up to scratch. The Lions have players kicking bags of 8 or more goals and they're not coming into the team. Plenty of players can rack up 40 possessions in these games if that's their role because they've got higher fitness than their opponents.
Just so very very very much wrong with that article, it's quite frankly hilarious!
