Hard to know where Growden is at as he has struggled with injury over the past couple of years. Suffered a bad broken leg near the end of 2011, got back towards the end of last year but has been further plagued by hip problems until he returned to the twos a few weeks ago. Keep an eye out in the second half of the year as he will hopefully string some games together in the NEAFL and get his shot in the senior side.

As for trading him, impossible to know at this point in time. Like the other remaining guys with expiring contracts, it's a wait-and-see until they get signed really.

Thanks mate. I'll be keeping an eye on your NEAFL match reports from now on then.

Hopefully he can get back to playing some good footy too. There's nothing worse then a young player having their career derailed by injury.

Even though we don't need to worry about list reduction for a few years should we maybe start discussing all the players that we should consider trading this year while they still have currency and don't really hold a place in our future plans. For example we traded hombsch back home even though he didn't request a trade due to the intent of drafting several KPDs last draft.

Obviously none of our nsw boys should be let go simply because they are nsw born and we have to show that we are developing local talent. Players like ugle and Wilson could attract the interest of both wA clubs, growden may interest the sa clubs and even darley may attract the interest of hawthorn due to the tassie connection.

I know this will leave the list compiled of Victorians and nsw boys but do these players realistically hold a future with this club? What is everyones thoughts on this?

On NSW/ACT guys I do think that we should give them every chance to make it, but if any player clearly doesn't look like they can make it then we need to let them go but the only player that fits that bill is Schulz.

Also I think its clear that Thornton was only ever a one year stop gap measure so expect him along with Cornes and Brogan to no longer be on the list. Then you have the likes of Wilson Ugle & maybe Darley who could be traded. So at the end of the year you have 7 spaces on the list filled by 3 draftees, 2-3 experienced guys and maybe a couple of zone selections.

Asianwithafro the only players u mentioned that we could realistically get is selwood and Thomas. The latter if we throw scully money at him

Macca - no, blicavs - raw but looks to be an amazing athlete, the white NN? , vardy and west wont leave
Macintosh - way too old and fragile. Blicavs - only just developing. Vardy - still to determine how his body is travelling. West won't leave.

Leuenberger and warnock seem the most likely targets.. Out of those two you'd think warnock is more likely to leave as he rarely gets a run in the ones these days. Anyone else who you think we'll target?

Why would we target a ruckman that plays for the twos. We already have backup ruckmen. The club has said it wants a first choice ruckman, think NN, Mumford, Ryder, maric, kreuzer, luey etc

Are we only talking ruckmen because our promising up and coming back up ruckman who could one day become a number one ruckman hasn't played at all yet this year? Sauce is young and has a hell of an upside down the track, but is just injured at the moment. Giles and Phillips will be a good combo going forward, just not now. Are we panicking for nothing?

cause he'd be a walk up start at just about any other afl club. Plus he's out of contract.

Or maybe we should even look at Majak Daw who is out of contract after this year, and as a side note in the 2006 census the west sydney region had over 5 thousand people of Sudanese decent which has grown a lot further since then so there might be a bit of merit in looking at Daw's not only as a player but in the work he could do in the community, especially if he keeps playing like he did tonight.

Liking daw alot!! Would be massive for boosting memberships and has x factor and a NN substitue. Would he leave north? They invested alot into him and he owes them. Perhaps we get our own on the international list? I think all 3 spots are full with bang, Harris and mahina.

Blicavs, West, Vardy, MacIntosh. Cats willing to offload one?

HMac has just arrived , has not even played game yet...NO
Vardy probably our most talented tall , extreme talent...NO
Blitz a project player who is improving at advanced rate , really not so much a ruckmen as a very tall mid... NO
Simpson , the forgotten 208 cmm giant who had issues with getting consistent game time..maybe
West been very serviceable and patient. A very good reliable #2 ruck...maybe

Ironically , we have struggled to have two fit rucks , thats why Blitz is playing. If we had all fit we wouldn't have enough room in the A's for Simpson or West

There have been reports of Geelong being linked to Taylor Adams. Not sure what he would be worth in trade. Perhaps more than one part to a ruck deal.

You're right, re: Adams, Turbocat; both St Kilda and Geelong are apparently keen on him. Unless Saints offer him some big coin, then Geelong would surely be his preferred destination for several reasons.

GWS supporters, what would it take to secure Adams, assuming that the rumours are true and that he nominates St Kilda and/or Geelong?

Adams to Geelong trade I would hope for vardy but we would need to sweeten the deal. If not vardy then mackie. From stK I'd like mcevoy with a sweetener from us

That being said FA can potentially solve our backline dilemma. Grab a couple of solid back pockets/ flankers, then trade for a star ruck. If we can't get the ruck we want this year then persist with Giles and hope Phillips/ downie develop well. Daisy should be a priority for us. Plays exceptional off half back and provides spark and x factor.

But end of the day please let us get NN!!!

I'm not sure how exactly to explain this concept, but a given club might have excess depth in a particular position such that players who are AFL standard are playing in the reserves. Adams would be a likely best 22 for many clubs but plays in our reserves, and Darley could be similar. Rucks are the same - Adelaide supplied a chunk of the comp out of their reserves (Maric, Griffen and I think there was someone else). Carlton has already supplied Adelaide with a starting ruckman from their 2s in Jacobs. Warnock would be a starting ruckman in at least a quarter of the clubs (us, Port, Hawthorn, Geelong, Collingwood, Gold Coast maybe, and maybe others).

Funnily enough, in your list of ruckmen to target a third were traded off a club from outside that club's best 22, i.e. Maric and Mumford.

We're talking rucks because the club has outright said they'd target mature defenders and rucks this year. You'd have to check with the club as to why they think that. :)

Interesting names , I think you will be disappointed if and when a trade happens cause he is certainly not worth either club considering McEvoy or even Vardy as part of a trade. Talented kid, was a R1 pick yes but I cant see him being at that status. Perhaps I've missed him in GWS games but I certainly haven't seen the type of impact that rate him at that level . Unlike Shiell or your name sake for instance.

Mackie is a name I doubt you would get to move but he has been a serviceable player for the Cats. If you were to convince him (emotionally , financially ) that he would like a fresh start at GWS then Geelong would probably try to work out a deal. But as Caddy has found at geelong , 22 game at GC don't mean 22 games at Geelong. Mackie is a regular in our side and a much respected finals player. There is no way we would force him out for a very raw kid that may not even play regular games for us for a year or two.

Id say even West , who is a regular player for us , A 2011 Premiership player would be worth more than a kid with potential. West <> Adams and pick upgrades probably do it , imo.

What would be a fair trade for mackie? Gws have already developed a reputation as fair traders so I imagine if Adams wants to go then gws will accommodate. Perhaps Adams and a NT zoned player? Would love to hold
Onto wasley-black and he wants to play for us( that's different!!)
