My thinking had been that we were no chance of getting picks 1 and 3 because the AFL wants clubs to get a crack at the draft for the first time in ages.

However, with Adelaide and Essendon both out of the first two rounds (lolz) it does bump plenty of clubs up one or two spots. That can only be a good thing for us.

Hopefully our argument is along the lines of what's one more compromised draft? GWS and GC both have two first round picks as it is. Let's be having one too (preferably #1).

While I like a meme as much as the next man...

"It goes on to say MFC have made submission for either beginning of R1 or end of R1 PP."

Only joking around :thumbsu:

Would be happy with either. It would be hell of a lot easier for the AFL to give the latter... Will be very interesting to see how things pan out.

Yep, which is why I scratch my head that we've submitted an end of 1st round proposal. We'll get that, the AFL will say we gave you what you asked for, the other clubs will be less unhappy than they would have been and we'll have less trade bait or (with luck) a solid player instead of a jet in the draft.

It does seem odd that we make a submission for either of those two options, but lets remember this is HS journalism & could be well wide of what we actually requested.

If it is an end of R1 PP, we may be bumped into the early 20's with that pick once any possible FA compo picks are awarded (eg. Franklin, Thomas etc)

Ahh but having 3 picks inside the top 25 means we will be able to better package a deal for a potential gun

For?...Adams?
Possibly. I am being told that they would look at that seriously if it was offered. Not interested in any fringe players either as they are cutting numbers (spencer a possible exception just my thoughts though). Big cash has been offered to him as well but ultimately it will come down to the new direction we go in and if he fits the new coaches plans. I will say that both Adams and a certain someone both living in Sydney currently has its advantages.

I hope we go hard for Adams, as you can see I'm pretty keen to get him to the MFC.

So seems like Melbourne fans have their hearts set on Aish at 2. Anyone think we should pick someone else? Aish is reminding me a lot of Toumpas last year in that he was basically a top2 rated player as a 17 year old and his his season was derailed by injuries and his form was down etc. Personally would love a complete prospect type rather than another skinny outside kid how about Dom Sheed? Don't really get why hes not being mentioned in the top few after winning the Larke medal.

I'm all for Scharenberg at pick 2. Best mates of Billy Stretch also. Talk, quick classy mid a bigger upgrade on Matt jones

My big problem with Scharenberg - not a proven U18 mid.

On talent #2 is fine for him, but if we're picking him as a mid I think that's misguided - he's a utility, he may well become a great mid but I think it's a risk picking him solely as a mid.

I've put my coaching hat on.

This is What the side could've looked like without injury next year, using our current list: not bad. Note fitzy in back line- we have a lot of KPF and considering that he's shown talent, has pace, competitiveness, good mark I'd give him a chance down back before I left him out. Also KPF are getting taller and with Fitzy being 200cm could be a wildcard.

B: Garland, Fitzpatrick, Trengove
HB: Grimes, McDonald, Frawley
C: Toumpas, Viney, Watts
HF: Hogan, Clark, Howe
F: Kent, Dawes, Blease
Foll: Jamar, Sylvia, N Jones

Int: Mckenzie, Evans, Tapscott
Sub: Barry

ROOS TEAM:

B: Frawley, Garland, ?
HB: Grimes, McDonald, ?
C: Blease, N Jones, Watts
HF: Sylvia, Dawes, Hogan
F: Clark, Howe, ?
Foll: Jamar, Trengove, Viney
Int: Fitzpatrick, ?, ?, ?

My 2014 team:

There is a rumour getting around that we won't get pick 1 PP but will get picks 2 & 3.

We need leadership, mids & quality disposers. Roos has said he'd like to trade for two experienced mids with early picks.

Pick 2: David Swallow- is contracted but wants to come closer to his brother in vic. Club has spoken to him. Skilful mid & leader.

Pick 3: Scott Selwood-is contracted but wants to be closer to his brother in vic. Club has spoken to him & WCE won't give him up easily.

Pick 19: Luke Dunstan

Free agent: Daniel Cross

PSD: Taylor Adams(won't happen)

Naturally a player or two may have to give way but here is my 2014 team after the draft period:

B: Garland, Frawley, D Cross*
HB: Grimes, McDonald, Watts
C: Viney, D Swallow*, Trengove
HF: Hogan*, Clark, Howe
F: Sylvia, Dawes, Toumpas
Foll: Jamar, S Selwood*, N Jones

Int: Mckenzie, Tapscott, Kent, Dunstan*, T Adams* Blease

This leaves these players to run through the midfield:

S Selwood*
D Swallow*
N Jones
J Viney
J Toumpas
J Trengove
L Dunstan*
T Adams*
S Blease
J Mckenzie
D Cross*
J Grimes
C Sylvia

Not much change and a bit of smart recruiting it could easily look very promising for 2014.

Hope you enjoy.

At the end of the day Aish could be the next Cale Morton or the next Scott Pendlebury , I mean at least taking selwood we know we have a proven centre square animal which is our main weakness (one of )

This, so much this... where we are at currently, I don't mind if we pay overs for a proven player who may be not quite as good as Aish or whoever could be in 5-6 years time. We need quality midfielders now.

Also if we want to get Selwood or anyone like that, we HAVE to pay overs because the Eagles won't let him go lightly. They will want a great deal.

At the end of the day we just need to win games of footy next year to bring the fans back , Scott selwood will help us do that better than a skinny 18 year old , plus he's spoken highly of as a leader

No doubt - if we could somehow pull off Selwood/Swallow and Adams it would be massive.
