BOOOOOOO!! Haha, classic pun.

Dom Tyson on talent is really worth a top 2 pick on his own, given he can get over injury concerns. Obviously a big call but you have to tell it like it is haha.

Well exactly right! He wasn't a pick #3 for nothing.

This was in some part down to the compromising of the draft given GWS advanced 17 year old selections (Cameron, Treloar and Shiel would probably have gone ahead of him). Still, it was a very strong draft at the top.

Sorry for the awful pun, but it had to be done.

Salem and Tyson well worth the pick 2, but I doubt anyone in the media will ever admit to it.

The pick 2 for Tyson And Salem was win/win in my eyes. We managed to extract maximum value for a player who was always going to leave and had injury concerns but supremely talented nonetheless. Good luck with your rebuild and look forward to our future finals against each other.

Pretty excited about Hunt after hearing Fyney talk about him on SEN tonight. Went with Robert Shaw to watch a Grammar v Grammar game, featuring Salem, Kelly and, amongst others, Hunt. Fyney said if he was told one would be a future AFL star, he would have picked Hunt easy. Apparently Hunt has grown like a foot in the last year. Was played forward pocket, lost interest and, as was noted, played tennis for a couple of years. Now grown a shitload but still has the awesome pace.

Take that for what it's worth but, personally, me rikey

You guys have got yourselves a real gem, both on and off the field in Jay

Went to school with the guy and can say unequivocally that he is one of the best young leaders I've come across, I cannot state this enough.

As for his footballing ability well I'll leave that for more qualified people but I believe you guys got him pretty cheaply.

Best of luck, and hope you guys can get the best out of him. If not, we will have him over at Essendon ;)

This is how I look at the draft, yes, we gave away pick two, but when you have Jesse Hogan officially coming into the side next year, it's like pick 2 never left us.

Guess we gave pick #3 from the year before away for nothing then?

Salem - Sounds like he should become a quality hard bodied midfielder who runs both ways and delivers the ball well. Ticks all our boxes, so now we have to back the coaching panel to get the best out of him.

JKH -from his highlights package it seems like he was getting most of his possessions outside of the 50m arcs. Could be a quick half forward who could have a turn through the midfield as well.

Hunt - hopefully a solid but cheap pick up, but at 70kg and 187cm, he'd obviously want to hit the food and weight training to get his weight up over the next 12-18 months.
Huge teenage growth spurts are a massive kent. I finished at 187 and 63kg. Before that I was just your average shaped short kid. At that stage I was in year 11 and had never played organised footy before but the local team had **** all tall kids so I got recruited and got ****ing hammered. My hat goes off to anyone who goes through a big growth spurt and maintains any level of coordination. I moved like I was on stilts for a year.

Don't think Salem was the best option to be honest

Who would you have picked instead, pray tell? Dom Sheed?

With regard to pick 2 I do really like the look of Josh Kelly and even James Aish, they both do some special things that other mids from this draft don't. No doubt they'll be stars but they're both also extremely skinny, will take more than a while to come in, which is something we couldn't wait for. In their junior careers neither was really renowned for doing the hard stuff and it's evident when you watch their footage too, from the kinds of disposals they get. Tyson and Salem however are genuine do-it-tough players who are ready to do all the work themselves for the benefit of the team.

People have been comparing Kelly to Pendlebury but I see more of this in Tyson tbh. Without having seen Watts play there I seriously rate DT as our most talented mid and as someone with heaps of leadership potential too. Just hope he can get over these injuries! Salem, I'll need to see more of.

Happy to have Watts, Toump and Hogan over a high jumping palm tree, a clown no team wanted to trade for and young Wines. :thumbsu:

People are entitled to their opinions, but it might be helpful to explain why rather than just say 'dont think he was the best option'.

**** yes we have butchered draft picks, no doubt at all. But if that is the best reason you can come up with (living on the past) then it just goes to show how moronic you really are.

You are aware that this is Taylor's first draft as a head recruiter? Collingwood rated him highly as a recruiter and didnt want him to go, all our other shitful picks count for nothing as of now. You will have to excuse me but ill take Taylor's 'best option' over a Big Footy WCE supporters thank you very much.

You guys should of taken either Lennon or Freeman. Salem isn't super quick, don't tell me he is. He's too small to be a gun on baller, lacks the motor, he may have good skills but don't i think his flaws will outshine his strengths. Not being biased but maybe you guys should of played it safe and drafted Sheed, his ceiling isn't high but he will be a 200 gamer. I also think you guys should of kept pick 2, Kelly or Billings will be guns, Tyson although was pick 3 in the draft won't live up to it, and don't understand why you guys didn't wait until his contract expired and got him for cheap, it was well noted he was homesick last year. Just my opinion.

Salem, IMO is safer bet than Lennon or Freeman, as someone has already mentioned here, something very Kade Simpson about him. Sheed could very well be a good player, but isn't even close to the player Tyson was at the same age.
Tyson wouldn't have come to Melbourne if we had waited. It would have been a Taylor Adams type scenario, the big clubs (Hawthorn and Collingwood have plenty of money in the salary cap next year) would have got him for sure. It was now or never.
To say Tyson wont make it is again, jumping to conclusions, if we get a fit Dom Tyson (the same one who dominated the state championships 2 years ago, with a bigger body) i can promise you this, you will be eating your words. The kid is a dead set jet. I was massively high on him in his draft year, before we ever had anything to do with him.
If you want to play the hypothetical game, you could have had Matt Scharenberg if you kept pick 6, a much better proporsition than Elliot Yeo (quick but very soft and kicking when under pressure is very suspect) and Sheed combined.

2.98 over 20metres isn't slow and a 14.5 in his beep test proves he surely doesn't lack a motor, he is also 1cm taller than Ablett and 4cm taller than what Cousins was...so him being to small to be a gun theory is out the window.

I suggest you do a little more research on him because you seem pretty off in your judgement.

Why research or prove anything when you can do a Damien Barrett and just say 'cause its Melbourne it must be wrong'

I'd take Darcy Hourigan in a heartbeat - having seen him play at the championships I was absolutely shocked he didn't get picked up. Arguably the greatest surprise coming out of the draft. Would have had him going in the top 30 if not creeping into the first round given the demand at several clubs for a key forward.

We should definitely take him as a rookie, could end up a fantastic KPD for us. Is a gorilla of a player.

I wasn't really, he's got no athletic attributes which would help him as a 190cm tall in the AFL - worth a rookie pick maybe.

I think Salem over Freeman is the wrong decision too, but we'll wait and see.

Happy with Salem. We need guys who go in hard, run both ways and CAN KICK - triple threat!

But why do people keep referring to him as big bodied? Dude looks pretty twiggy to me.

He's got a big frame, very solid through the legs.

He's a powerful player already, he'll be a very strong lad in 5 years time.

I absolute HATE when people say x player will play this amount of games, another x player will play THAT many games.

You just can't say that someone will be a 200 gamer, I have no doubt that people would've thought Cale Morton would've been a 200 gamer, 250 gamer if you want to push the boundaries, he went at a very high pick with the likes of Dangerfield, Cotchin, Rioli, etc... But we traded him to your mob for a bullshit pick, to play 3 games this year, then to be delisted on a whopping total of 76 games throughout his stellar career. Gee Cale, great 200+ game career you had!

Yeah that was the noted knock on his game but from what I saw I didn't think it was such a severe issue that he couldn't improve it enough to be competitive at AFL level. Agree with you on Salem v Freeman but again, I'll wait and see.

I probably have rose coloured glasses on here but the more I see of Tyson, the more impressed I am. Can't wait to see him play in the red and blue next year and I'll be very surprised if he doesn't live up to his potential. Has the skills, game sense and, very importantly for us, the size - great combination of height and build.
