Pretty close to how I feel, although I'm not as concerned about Aish as you are. Billings for me is a tricky one because he's such a brilliant offensive weapon but I really, really hate utaking players who aren't very good defensively. It just makes me uneasy.
.

Yet you would happily take Aish who has no defensive side whatsoever.

No need for the condescension if my view is different to yours.

I don't particularly rate Aish defensively but I find him to be better in that regard than Billings, personally. It's also a matter of rating Aish's game aside from that higher than I do Billings' and believing he has more going for him. Billings has shown very little through the midfield and while I rate him as a forward I don't believe he would be considered a top five pick if he were to remain there permanently. I'm not as convinced that he'll make the move as some are.

The Draft really can't come quick enough :p

With opinion as to who will be taken at pick 4 on this board swinging like a weather vane in a cyclone during the past 2 months or more. I'm looking forward to the a number of posters losing their shit when 'their boy' doesn't get up.

Draft day is great in more ways than one. With one early pick hilarity should ensue earlier than usual.

I feel like both Dahl and Lachie Hunter will be midfielders before Billings so it would be okay if he just started out as a Half Fwd/Wing and gradually works his way into the middle. I mean look how long it took Stevie J to become a full time mid.

I mean we're bloody stocked in the middle anyway

Centre/Onballers under 25
Libba (All hail your new Extractor King)
Wallis
Clay
J-Mac
Dahl (speculative, but will give us some zip!)
Jake (also speculative, I know but he's such a beast in tight)
Prudden (It's Prudden.)
Koby
Hrovie
Hunter
Christian Howard (If we get anything out of him this is where it will be imo.)

I am keen on sending the club a consensus message from the bigfooty brains trust. We know that most decisions at the club and most articles in the media are inspired here on this forum.

The WB BF forum has largely accepted that there are some issues with Aish
And whilst he is better then bontempelli I think the committee vote falls strongly almost unanomously in favour of billings / Sharenberg. The BF match committee for the WB will not accept any other candidate.

This decisions was reached after considerable consternation and soul searching: including in fighting, analysis of all games, counter argument, etcetera etcetera. Indeed, I personally have suffered numerous personal attacks from all quarters questioning my judgement, my intellect and even one poster cast aspersions at my sexual orientation.

i honestly dont know how much more of this we can all take.

I now urge all posters to stand by this decision and that we present a united front to the club and thereby ensure the bontempellia suffered by some this afternoon is contained and eradicated forever.

I wish to thank all members for their unfailing dedication but wish to close with a warning that no further negotiations will be entertained, the decision is final.

As the newly established Best Judge Of Talent In The World, I applaud you.

Tell you what, it pisses me off so much the amount of top 15 picks GWS are getting. I reckon they would of had more in their three years than out last decade.

+ they got those joke of a concessions (Cameron, Treloar, Shiel were all top 10 picks).

Such a joke.

We also just haven't seen enough of him through the midfield. You know my thoughts on Bontempelli.

It's really not an easy decision and to be honest I'm nowhere near as set on the choice as I have been. If it was in my hands my preference list would probably be the following:
1. Boyd
2. Kelly
3. Aish
4. Kolodjashnij
5. Bontempelli
6. Billings
7. Scharenberg
But it's much, much closer than it has been.

I have just plowed through umpteen pages of this forum, after a couple of weeks interstate. Boy, so much I could reply to.
But as I don't often disagree much with Dannnnn, I chose this post to start from.
Sorry Dannnnn, but no matter how I try to twist or manipulate things, I am darned if I can push Bontempelli higher than 7-8 at best.
I can see absolutely no reason why he would even be under consideration at P4.

For mine if any team bar GWS had P2, I could not see Aish below that posi. Given how many high grade mids they already have GWS
can afford to pick on a needs basis with their selections. The rest of us just need to go the old "best available".

The worry for me in the Bontempelli discussion is I am seeing a lot of the same arguments for him that were put forward to explain taking
Everett, J. Grant, Zephi etc. I am not comparing him to these players, just seeing a lot of the same supporting arguments.

We have 2, maybe 3 picks in this draft, and I think we are unlikely to have as high a high pick as 4 again for the rest of this decade, so to hell
with any gambling on speculative might be's [ or might not be's ]. Lets go with the guys who are natural footballers whose talent is there for all
to see.
Height is not what our midfield needs, it is class, delivery, and pace.

I think MB could be a good or even very good player or better in a few years, but right at this point in time I would be struggling honestly to
squeeze him into the top 10.

I would have Aish, Kelly and Billings as 2-4, so close that order is a matter of preference. Then Burger and Koloalphabet, again in personal preference order.
After that any of a number come into consideration, on a needs first basis, with not a lot to separate them.

By 42 I think it is down to hoping for a slider.

Anyone noticed a trend since BMac has come to the club, Look back at all the draftees in his time and tell me what they have in common

Every Single one has been Victorian, Seems like Billings/Bontempeli... Are shoe ins

They've absolutely ****ed some of them too, Buntine over Wingard, Plowman over Grundy etc.

They can all win the contested ball and they all work well defensively and are comfortable putting their body on the line

Go on.

Every single one was Victorian would think that will continue

Really most of that draft over Wingard, he looks like being something special. They passed on Grundy 5 times. FIVE TIMES!!!! How do you even do that? It will be very interesting to see how they go next year, because people were laughing at the Sns last year and then they came out and improved out of sight. Could GWS do the same? I'm not sure.

It's coincidence. I mean look at the guys we drafted, who would you take instead of them? If Boyd was South Australian, and somehow slipped to pick 4, then we would take him and run to the hills.

Guys as someone who has never seen the prospects play, I am enjoying the discussion. Just thought I would say one thing - I don't get, like or appreciate people saying, we should have faith in Dalrymple.

If and/or when Dalrymple builds a record like Hine or Geelong's recruiter, then I'll have faith and blindly follow. But at the moment, Dalrymple's record is an abject failure in recruiting Howard and Tutt, then being gifted two father sons, and then having Stringer and Macrae who are unproven, is at best ordinary.

So please carry on the discussion, I am enjoying it, but if I hear people suggesting Dalrymple is infallible or even remotely beyond ordinary and thus should be followed blindly, well - I'll spew up!

The difference is the suns have the greatest midfielder to play the game, he won a couple of games off his own boot.

GWS will be very good, but it will take a while longer than the suns.
