Heard that he was sick but still, pretty ridiculous. Any other kid would drag themselves down there half dead if they had to. Obviously doesn't want it enough, shame to lose a kid of his talent but its his loss and he is going to be the only one regretting it so whatevs :p

Its possible he is just absolutely terrified of interviews. Anxiety disorder or something.

You could live with that as long as it doesnt affect his on-field performances.

Could be worth digging deeper. I still think a spot on the rookie list and trial him for one year isnt going to bring a club down.

Didn't someone say before we she got our two picks wrong last year? I still wouldn't be surprised at all if we didn't draft Bontempelli tomorrow.

She said we'd take Stringer and Macrae, but Macrae at 5 and Stringer at 6 :p

In Quayle we trust!

Yeah true, although if he struggles going to an interview I don't know how he's going to cope with the whole country watching him. But I agree that it couldn't hurt to trial him (and it could turn out very very beneficial) but I just don't think any clubs going to bother with it anymore after what we've seen so far

I read that too and struggled big time as to why Liam Jones was stiff to miss. o_O Jordan Roughead was similar pick, has delivered better results and didn't make the list.

Wasn't Tom Rockliff in that year?

Yep, and he got overlooked. Got picked in the PSD. Not sure if it was just poor recruiting by 17 clubs, or brilliant recruiting by Brisbane?

If our recruiting points system comes up with Bontempelli, then we must pick him. No point having a system if we don't follow it. Must trust the system. If the system needs adjusting, do it analytically, not because our gut prefers someone else.

Why are we so big on project players or bolters in the first round (good evening Tommy Williams). Can't we just apply the KISS principle and pick Aish? My God, the kid has played in two SANFL flags against men. What more do we want?

Cal Twoney said before we where one club that hasn't decided yet and would late today, Brett Anderson said a similar thing. Don't think Bontempelli is a certainty yet but he'd obviously be the read hate favourite.

Interesting that the SEN mock has us taking Jono Marsh at pick 42. His stocks vary widely in the phantom drafts - super-quick 191cm type who is more of a crumber than a marker.

It's unanimous then. Hoping for some surprises tomorrow night, but sounds unlikely. Will be a fun night regardless.

I'm not sold on the kid, but what a truly unique talent to bring into the club.
See @Zgope1s highlight package a few pages back fronk? might get you a little more excited for Bonts.

Also sounds like Kayne Turner might be a bit of a surprise pick at 60, still hoping for Harvey/Conlon or a slider at 42 (Templeton pls)

Interesting that she says we still have an interest in Shazz. I'd hate to see him in black and white.

4 WESTERN BULLDOGS: MARCUS BONTEMPELLI
(Northern Knights, 194cm, 84kg)
A tall, running half-back who could develop into a super-sized midfielder.
THE RATIONALE: Tall midfielders are all the rage, these days. Bontempelli has shown he can play off back, on a wing and in the forward line. By the end of the season he was doing it in the centre square. He has a big body, excellent vision in traffic and a diligent nature.
THE COMPLICATION: Jack Billings would be hard to pass up, if available. James Aish and Matthew Scharenberg could also be considered.
Oh Boy!!!!

We must keep praying!

Well said Fronky, he wasn't my first choice but he is a unique talent and I'm confident that we (Macca & the coaching/development staff) can harness that talent and if we do pick him that we are backing ourselves to do so...

Yeah saw that. I'm more going off what some chaps have told me than the vision. Of course I'll get behind it big time if we go that way, but don't think there isn't a healthy level of skepticism in the industry about him and about us taking him at 4. Plenty feel its a genuine reach.
