It's a risk, but I don't mind it. Dom Tyson is a very nice player if he can get that knee right and it's been reported they rate Freeman quite highly. I think they did well out of it.

I feel that Melbourne don't feel like they are losing much with the 7 pick downgrade. I also heard that they really like Freeman and may have reached for him at 2 anyway. There is a good chance he'll still be there at 9. If they do get him, they manage to get who they wanted in the first place, plus Dom Tyson while losing pick 20.

So if reports are true with GWS being very keen on both Kelly and Scharenberg, that could be the top 2... Saints need a mid badly so it's not outside the realms of possibility that they pick up Aish at 3, leaving Boyd for us.

Anyway, if you'd said 2 months ago there was a possibility of this scenario, I'd ask for the drugs you were taking. Now it doesn't seem so ridiculous. Very unlikely though. But what may throw a spanner in the works is the Buddy compo... Any news on that yet?

No Chance. Saints need a new KPF to replace Nick and Kozi. Tom Lee/Stanley arent up to it yet.

Yeah but what about their mids? They will be very high in the draft next year and a monty to pick up a gun KPF there, and they need to get some mids developing just as much us KPFs I'd say.

Don't crush these pipe dreams of mine, man :(

Personally, I don't think there is any chance of Boyd going past pick 1, or even if that happens, pick 2. He's the most valuable player in the draft. I'd be astonished if they let him pass.

Tom Boyd will not fall to pick 4. However, I can totally believe that GWS are looking for Kelly and Scharenberg, leaving both us and the Saints in prime position to get pick 1. Even if the Saints beat us out, presumably that leaves Aish to the Dogs, which I think would be a huge win. We do like a high SA midfielder.

Let's trade for pick 1. Really really want Boyd. Would suck big time if he slipped to 3 and St Kilda got him. GWS have pick 2. Im sure we can throw them pick 4 and someone like Wood to help get it over the line. Hell even Higgins would be perfect for them. If he gets fit they have another leader at the club.

The old best available before needs debate eh.

GWS are just like Frankenstein playing Monopoly. They'll have this surplus of high draft picks on every line and start trading to the highest bidded. Disgusting. It's weird, I loathe GWS but I don't mind Gold Coast - I think GC went about their list building a decent way.

Injury prone players like Williams, Higgins an Wood have no currency for GWS for such a high pick.

We can only hope that Leon has a soft spot and hands us pick 1 for a club his son could play for in the next decade. :D

.

Higgins has had 1 bad year of injuries. His at a good age and is considered a leader. He would be valuable for many years yet and Wood is still very young and im sure can get over his injuries. They are two players who can walk straight into the side there which will allow pick 2 and 4 time to develop although they may go straight in also.

Sorry. I love our players as much as the next member, but let's not over rate certain players constantly in the name of getting pick 1.
Let's look at it through the eyes of Gubby and SOS. Other clubs don't rate those players as high as we do, and I don't blame them. It's a fact they are "injury prone" and hence they have NO currency for a high end pick.

Official ???? Gotta laugh at MFC. Tyson is good, but is he comparable to Aish/Kelly etc. ? There original premise was flawed (wanting a mature "gun", ostensibly for an unproven 18yo"gun") but now they have done this. Can anybody see the logic ?

Well, they do actually get 2 first round picks Tyson being a pick 3 two years ago. They have moved pick 20 to pick 9 and pick 72 to 53 so big gains there. The net gain is an additional first round pick added to the list.

They have got a guy who is a little more advanced (because he's been in the system a couple of years) than Kelly or Aish are but is hardly the mature gun player they wanted as you say....so yes it falls a bit short on that requirement.

Effectively they are betting that Tyson will be better or the equal of Kelly or Aish (and sooner) and on top of that they pick up something decent at 9, which they should (Kade Kolodjashnij). So maybe a very clever trade. Only time will tell if they made the right choice

I do think it means we will now get Kelly. Sharenberg to GWS I reckon. Saints would take Aish. Not bad Kelly is a ripper.

Much more likely pick 1 is traded now. Industry guys have said all along that it's never been off the table, and neither has Patton (sore point round these parts I know).

Boyd goes pick 1. No question. So any chat around him sliding is crazy.

If gws want scharenberg and Kelly, our pick 4 is gold for them. I can't see st kilda passing on aish at 3. But to firm that up even moreso, gws take Kelly at 2, and leave st kilda to choose between scharenberg and aish. Have to take aish in that instance, leaving scharenberg for them at 4.

So, back to the same old scenario, what can we add to pick 4 to get it done??? Pick 22?? Then push Crameri to the psd? That would give gws picks 20 (from Melbs) and 22 from us to parlay into mature bodies (ie. Bernie Vince).

Emma Quayle reckons it is close to certain that we will get Billings at 4.
Thinks kolodjashnij will go to Suns at 5 and that Aish will slip to the pies at 6!!!

She sais SOS loves Kelly and the draft will go like this:

Pick 1: GWS Tom Boyd
Pick 2: GWS Josh Kelly
Pick 3: StK Matt Scharenberg
Pick 4: WB Jack Billings
Pick 5: GC Kade Koladjashnij
Pick 6: COLL James Aish

Can someone explain how Aish has dropped so far in recruiters estimations. I know he didn't participate in the combine but that's not the be-all-end-all. Did he interview poorly, is there something going on we don't know?
