this is REALLY judgemental and i hope i'm wrong but Billings seems like a cocky little bugger. I rate him though so would love him and as i said i hope i'm wrong.

I watched back some of the championships games today and I had close eyes on Scharenburg. He seems to do everything well. His first few steps are very quick, he defends and marks well one on one. Can break the lines when he gets the ball and reads the play well. My criticisms are that despite what i've said already, he can tend to lumber a bit as if he's a tall. Doesn't seem to have a big running gait either. Pity because if he manages to follow the ball around he should be a bloody good player, just haven't seen proof of that yet.

My comparison are Corey Enright and the utility version of Jimmy Bartel.

Agree with Dannnnnnnnnn re: Mitch Harvey. Would be a great get for us. If he's got a good attitude he'll be something. Moves well and is very very good on the deck for a massive unit.

Also still stunned at how lowly rated Dom Sheed has been. Absolute jet.

In the absence of a power forward or a quick and silky pure mid, I suppose we could do with some decent ball users from defence.
We seem to be collecting a fairly large group of mid/forward capable players, so maybe thats what could lean us away from
billings.

Once Murph, Morris and Goodes go from the back line, we are starting to look really thin for any kind of defenders, let alone tall ones who can use the ball well.

yeah i've previously been pretty against Scharenburg because i'd want our pick four to have the chance to be the best player in the league but he truly could be a corey enright type that just wins AAs year after year and if developed well he's even got a bit of James Hird about him. I'm sure Macca would like the way he defends. There's nothing he can't do really except atm maybe follow the ball around all day.

Basically i'm glad we've got that top 4 pick and a chance at either him, Kelly or Aish.

Just read about the Nankervis boy. Hunk of a lad. With the write up given to him why have I not heard his name in discussion as a late pick. Seems to tick a few boxes with all the talk of us requiring a GKPF . Is he sloth-like slow or something ?

Looks a Markovic v 2.0 from the little I've seen.

Thought as much. Football writers/draft watchers have a tendency to write up a 50+'er to sound like guns.

Guess they can't just say, "Guy is a big unit, can clunk a few, rucks a bit, moves like a 3 legged elephant"
Yeah, it's why I tend not to like reading too many of those sorts of summaries. Notoriously positive based which really doesn't give you a good idea of what kind of player they are. At AFL level your weaknesses define you, so focusing on positives will never give an accurate reflection.

Although of course my view on him is just that - personal opinion. Others may disagree but I just think the days of key forwards like him are well and truly gone.

The scpaige website does it better then most which is where that Nankervis write up came from. I admit I can do it too, but those guys just take it to a whole new level of over exaggeration.

For what it's worth his testing wasn't all that bad in regards to mobility for a ruckman and he was probably the best ruckman of the championships (not that it says much as the ruckman in this draft are pretty ordinary).

Nothing wrong with a bit of swagger. For example, Stringer has it in spades and is confident in everything that he does.

Glad we're interested in Kelly, I think he will really thrive in an AFL environment, wouldn't be surprised if he did a Macrae and put on 6+ kilos over the summer.

Got a feeling that Kelly will become one of BF's favourite whipping boys. If people criticise Higgins for not being inside enough and being a downhill skier they're going to have a lot of fun with Kelly.

Not that I think he's a bad pick, just don't expect him to win a lot of his own ball.

For this exact reason I expect us not to take Kelly. Macca seems to want people that can be a mix of inside and outside, Kelly is purely outside from what i've seen and heard.

I still think that the Burger-meister is ours at pick 4.

Was suspended for disciplinary reasons and supposedly ran a beep in the low 10s.
The information you have is wrong Harvey has glandular fever so the fact he even was able to run was amazing. No issues re discipliary action before he was sick he was in best shape of his life.

Interesting. If that's true I apologise but I've heard it from at least five different people now. Weird.

Kelly looks like exactly the type of player we need, I just can't shake this nagging feeling that he will remain a stick figure & never quite develop the physique to mix it with the big boys.

Yes this is probably due to former high picks like Ray, McMahon & Grant.

That's what I always thought, but from what I've heard that's apparently not the case. Perhaps the recruiters believe Kelly can develop a decent inside game and have McCartney convinced?

Anyway, Kelly will probably be gone so we will take Scharenberg in any case.

That does suck for him. I do find it quite strange he chose to test in everything when a lot of others decided not to or would do 1 test and that's it. But yeah, great effort to do that under such duress. Will be interesting to see where he goes.
