Seriously? We're keeping Greenwood & the Redpath? I was informed by this board that they've done nothing for Williamstown and have no future with the Bulldogs.

I guess Addison's still a chance to depart.
Yep, apparently so. I can kinda understand Redpath but the Greenwood retention just boggles my mind.

Yeah Addo's gone. Either today or as a delisted free agent.

Leaves us at:
OUT - Veszpremi, Cross, Markovic, Lower, Addison
IN - Crameri, pick 4, pick 42, Goodes (upgrade)

That leaves us with either two main list spots (as we had one less than the proper amount this season in order to have an extra rookie), two rookie picks or one rookie pick and one main list spot.

If we go off the rumours our changes would look like this:
OUT - Veszpremi, Cross, Markovic, Lower, Addison
IN - Crameri, Darley, Scharenberg/Aish, Brown, Goodes (upgrade), Batsanis (rookie)

Not a bad off-season. Nothing remarkable but I'd be content.

I think there is really two possibilities here, either Aish drops to us or we pick one of either KK or Sharenberg. I'd really love to have KK or Aish as I see Aish as a gun and KK as a Murphy clone. wouldn't mind us going for Brown at our 3rd rounder and JK at fourth round. I want us to complete that back 6 for the next ten years in this draft and then go and grab forwards next year. Shame that we don't have a Rookie spot I would have loved to get a lightning quick player in one of those spots...

at the moment I'm saying that we'll be going, KK, Brown, JK in this one.

it's just baffling. does he have relo's in the coterie?

definitely an upgrade in first 22 talent with crameri and pick4 compared to fringe players in crossy/DFA and depth of marko/lower/vez.

Starting to feel like this is going to be somewhat of a boring draft for us. We'll pretty much know exactly who we're planning on taking at 4 by the draft, and we already know we're interested in Brown at 42. I dunno about you guys but I find it hard to believe we'd use 60ish in such a shallow draft. Additionally, given we're retaining all our rookies we won't have many rookie picks (if any) - and someone said on here a while back that we were looking to give that to Batsanis in a dual role.

I can't see how it will be a boring draft for us Dannnnnnnnnn . How can we not be excited by having pick 4 in any draft?

As for who we will pick.... about one week before the draft all of the recruiting staff, full and part-timers, will get together with the rest of the Footy Department and only then will a final decision be made on our trade targets and strategy. Anybody who says they know right now what we will do with pick 4 or any of the picks is simply guessing.

Sorry, boring as in no huge surprises and not many new players coming in. Plus I'm not as keen on Scharenberg who I feel we'll take as others.

The top 5-7 is pretty much spot on in the last five days before the draft; you pretty much know who's going to be taken there by the time the draft starts which is what I meant. Brown we may not take but we're apparently interested.

In the grand scheme of things last year was an 'exciting' draft - three high picks, one F/S and a "who?" pick late draft who looks like a good one thus far. This year's draft is comparatively boring, especially when you factor in how shallow it is. Not saying that the off-season we're likely to build is bad or anything, it's just not a particularly exciting draft.

I can see how Scharenberg may not be as exciting as some of the other potential pick 4s, but he is the guy who I would feel most comfortable with at that pick. He looks as safe a pick as you will get.

His highlight reel reminds me a little of Hodge playing back. Obviously not as quick or damaging by foot but you just always feel confident when he's around the ball. Smart, leads from the front & seems to make the right call & execute every time.

Obviously I could be completely wrong having only seen a few minutes of footage .

Would be very happy to slot him in to the backline even if he never played midfield.

It's not the 'excitement' thing with Scharenberg, I just simply don't rate him as highly as others do.

Do you agree with Wallace on TR that Josh Kelly was equal/next in line for the Mini Draft last year behind Hogan and Martin?
Has Rated him as a pick 2 this year.

Yeah he was the only real competitor to Hogan and Martin last year. There was a bit of talk surrounding him.

Kelly will likely be taken at 2 since apparently Sos is in love with him. I don't think he's a clear pick 2 though, personally. Out of the common perception of the "next rung" after Boyd of Aish, Kelly, Billings and Scharenberg, Kelly's probably got one of the higher ceilings but he's also got some concern surrounding him. I think he'll be a beauty but there's always a risk involved in taking such an outside player.

Were I in GWS' position however, I wouldn't be taking Kelly. I just feel that Scharenberg and GWS are perfect for each other; while I don't rate him as highly as others he offers something new, is a fairly low-risk pick and plays a role that is very friendly to GWS' structure. With Hunt and Shaw coming in they can provide Scharenberg with some of what they've gained through their experience as well, and is probably one of the last gaps to fill in their core.

That said though if they rate Kelly as a clear best available as they apparently do, they should take him despite what kind of player he is.

I think from list perspective, Scharenberg would be a great fit. Not saying that a classy pure mid is also not needed but a utility who can fill the Dale Morris role going forward and then also be a creative half back ala Bob Murphy.

Know what you mean. While I still think he's too vanilla to go at pick 4, I think he's the most likely player in the draft to come good and I think it's almost certain he'll establish himself as a very good defender who should play 200 games barring injury.

Problem is, we'd be taking him over James Aish, a guy with sublime kicking skills, excellent vision & composure, winner of two SANFL Premierships and pretty much exactly what we need. Sure, not as safe as Scharenberg, but he's still well worth the risk and I think he's the far more logical selection.

Also, as for GWS's pick 2, I'm very confident they'll select one of Kelly or Bontempelli- The former because Silvagni apparently has a boner for him and the latter because he provides them something rare & exciting, and there are AFL.com.au articles backing it up.

It's a good point. We'll lose Morris soon, a tough defender that can play on the Reiwoldts one week and Eddy Betts types the next, blokes like him aren't falling off trees.

I'm not so convinced we will take Sideshow Brown in the 3rd round.
The rumor was something like - we told him if he lasted to our pick we would take him. Right?

That sounds more like 4th round talk to me.

I guess it might depend on who falls to pick 42 & whether other clubs are interested in Brown.

Hopefully there's still some nice talent around 42.I

Even with Addison going though if we're taking three in the draft we have no rookie picks. We seem to like taking players in the PSD/rookie draft as we get to have a close look at them during the off-season. I expect we'll have one of those at least.

Fair point. Still can't fathom how we're keeping Greenwood.

I would much rather Conlon to Brown.

Don't draft a big bloke who doesn't grab them first go, you normally don't get two bites at it in the AFL

Dannnnn, have I missed something, or am I misunderstanding what you are saying ? Why are you so sure Dylan A is gone ?
I am aware he is a free agent, but as it seems no one has made a play for him, wouldn't we need to delist him ?

As we have retained Greenwood and Redpath, and given Howard another year, none of whom could hold a candle to DFA,
nor did they earn 1 game between them, unless I am mistaken. Why by any measure would we then delist him ahead of them?

Look I know he is no world beater, and finding a spot for him in the 22 is becoming harder all the time, but gee he has to
offer us more than the three I mentioned put together.

As far as I know he has one contract in front of him and it's not from us. Fronk's also mentioned numerous times that he agreed to terms with GWS a while ago but was waiting to see if we could sort something out.

I've been arguing why we need to keep Addison on the list for months so no arguments from me if he stays.

Thanks Dannnn, I was just finding it a little confusing. Is there any confirmation anywhere of this GWS contract, or
is it just supposition ?

I don't think Brown will last to our 2nd pick, so I think it might be another "who?" pick at pick 42. Pick 4 will be known about a week out from the draft so there won't be a surprise. We'll upgrade Goodes, and then rookie someone if Addo leaves, or we'll just keep Addo.

In summary, I agree, boring draft. Except for pick 42, we could pick another Prudden :p

No confirmation but I'm pretty confident. Fronk's one of about three or four people on here that have been saying the same thing for a while now, plus it's in line with what I've been told.

Hello friends,

We are doing a Phantom Draft over at the Collingwood, who are the Doggies most likely to take at pick 4? Boyd, Scharenberg and Kelly have already been selected.
