Imagine a draft off Aish ,Cremeri,Wilson, Brown perfect

We're not getting both of Wilson and Brown. Brown might not last til our 3rd pick, Wilson might not last til our 4th pick. Either way I think we'll only have 2 draftees and upgrade Goodes.

I wouldn't mind us taking a project KPD with our late pick.

Any names that could fill this need?

Jake Kolodjashnij possibly, KK's brother. Knightmare's write-up:

Jake Kolodjashnij (TAS – KPD/Util)
Height: 192cm, Weight: 88kg, DOB: 09/08/1995
Recruited from: Launceston
Style: Ryan Shoenmakers
Player comparison:
Range: 30-rookie
Profile: The brother of Kade, Jake is a completely different player. Jake is a defender with a strong body and the ability to shut down opposition forwards or play as a rebounder as required. What I like with Jake is his versatility and ability to play a number of roles either as a key defender or even as more of a rebounder off a back flank. But in saying that I’m not yet sold on him in any one role. As a key defender despite his size he can struggle 1v1 and also struggle when the ball hits the deck with that second effort not yet there.

We've delisted four players, and already brought in two players. Because we went into last season with 5 rookies and one spare spot on the main list, we have 3 spots on the main list to fill. So that would be two draft picks and a rookie upgrade

Addison might go, which would leave us with 3 draft picks and a rookie upgrade. In that scenario we could draft Aish,Wilson and Brown, assuming Wilson makes it to pick 66 or whatever it is. But I don't think he'll make it that far.

We could also run 5 rookies and one spare spot on the main list again, which would leave us with 2 draft picks, a rookie upgrade, and a rookie pick.

Who was today's draft profile? Can't find it on iPhone.

I just can't see how or why st kilda would pass on aish. If Boyd and Kelly go 1 and 2, surely at kilda take aish.

GWS might take Scharenberg or Bontempelli according to some, then the Saints might take Kelly at three, don't see it happening..... but theres always hope.

Can anyone see a justification for retaining Greenwood? I have only seen him play a couple of times on TV and am basing my assessment on BF posts but I am not seeing enough of an upside. I would favour taking some one else even if there is only a 10 per cent that the new rookie would make it my guess is that this would be a greater percentage than the chance Greenwood would make it.

I think if we believe Jack Billings is in the long run a midfielder, I have no qualms with taking him at four. He's certainly got a great left boot.

I have no dramas taking Billings if Aish and Kelly are both gone by our pick. While I think Sharenberg would fit in our back 6 well, pace and class to add to our midfield is more important right now. Besides there are players on our list who can potentially fill that HBF role, possibly including Pearce, Prudden, Higgins and the new kid [ Darley], and for the next year or two Murph. And yes I know I left out Howard, and no it was not an oversight.

I believe we only have two list spots left since acquiring Darley, and given we're interested in Batsanis as a rookie, this suggests the only picks we'll use in the national draft will be 4 is 42, which will likely be Brown if available (all according to Dannnnnnnnnnn).

There really isn't a lot to speculate.

But if Addison departs, then that means pick 60 opens up. Has Goodes already been permanently upgraded to our list? or is there still another free spot there that he moves into? We went into this year with 1 less player on the senior list, so I'd assume that he takes that.

Wouldn't mind having pick 60 open so we can grab a Prudden type that nobody else seems to be watching.

Plough said yesterday that the saints will go midfield for their first 3 picks. That should mean they will not take a utility like scharenberg and would not pass on Aish or Kelly. He thought GWS would take Kelly.

I think you are correct, we do need to get another classy mid coming through. While it seems that scharenberg is at this stage a utility/defender just as stringer is a utility/forward who we expect to be a mid eventually. I am expecting that scharenberg will become a mid who can play half back. If both these boys can become mids, we will have one heck of a midfield. For that reason I like scharenberg. Time will tell if him and stringer develop into monster mids.

Btw any if the other boys look great players too, so if we get them we will have done well.

Yeh Kel, I would have no problems with S'berger either, and was aware of the possibility of his eventual development as another tall mid.
But for the sake of our club right now, the sooner we become regularly competitive, the sounder our future I believe. In an era where folks
seem to think more in terms of the immediate and short rather than long term, the quicker we are winning combination the better.

A more dynamic midfield and attack will also make us more attractive to watch play for the wider AFL audience. We have a good developing midfield
with loads of grunt, but need a little more magic to take full advantage.

As you suggest S'berger and Stringer as tall mids could be a formidable combination, this with your own proviso though of : "eventually".
Generally I too prefer to think in the longer term, but right now I worry that we need a more immediate boost as a club.

If we could somehow land Aish or Kelly [ don't like the odds there unfortunately], I think they would be a chance to hit the ground RUNNING by the early rounds of 2014, taking plenty of pressure off Griff and Coons. Could loosen up our mid section to become considerably more explosive.

I have just posted in the best 22 for 2014 thread my analysis of the midfield as it stands so maybe have a read of that if you have time, so won't go into too much detail here.

I do agree that Kelly, Aish or Billing would be great pickups and if we get one of them I would be happy. But I think as good as they are they cannot be guaranteed to hit the ground running in 2014 as they too may need time to develop. Kelly and Aish are both lightly built. Remember also we do have Macrae and Hrovat on the list developing nicely and my smokey is Koby Stevens who really is primed to go the next level in terms of his age and games played. I think he is more the one to take some pressure of Griff and Coons in 2014. Maybe Dahlhaus will emerge as a genuine mid soon too?

I think Scharenberg, body type and style of player is more likely to give the boost you want in 2014 but also is unique in terms of his longer term potential . I just reckon a guy who could play the Dale Morris role one day, Robert Murphy role the next and then Ryan Griffens role is too good to pass up. If he is there at 4 I will be surprised despite what Plough says.

The only thing is what sort of player we go for. Debate is about that I reckon. I believe we need to have a young ruck coming through behind Campbell and Cords. As it stands we have just Cords rucking for Footscray. No harm in getting a project ruck who may not be ready for 4 or 5 years.

Others could argue KPD but I doubt it given what they say is about next year’s crop of talls that we'll go for a KPD or KPF with a late pick and we don't need any speculative mids.....but we could look at a will of the wisp small forward????

So for me....it's a ruck or a small forward.....I favor the ruck due to the more immediate need.

Bontempelli's draft profile today.

You have to use at least 3 draft picks (On drafting or upgrading rookies). But we have an extra senior list spot because we had 5 rookies last year, so it'll probably be 2 drafted and Goodes upgraded.

I somewhat hope we get to use 60; would probably allow us to take one of Vandeleur/Kolodjashnij. Picking up some class, a project ruckman/forward and a third tall defender in, say, Aish, Brown and Vandeleur would tick all the boxes imo. I really doubt we'll use it though.

So people think we're not upgrading Goodes? Just keeping him on as a rookie again, seems a tad strange.

We can upgrade goodes and still use all 3 picks in the draft. I think we should. And then brush 2 of greenwood, Jong and redpath and have 2 rookie selections as well.
