Personally think you're underselling him a bit.

He's not overly quick, no, but he's also certainly not slow. What he does have is a rare awareness for the game and an ability to find space effortlessly. He's got that dynamic sidestep that you see in Macrae; perhaps not to the same extent, but he still finds his way around opposition players much easily than you'd expect of a player of his stature. His skills are quite good from what I've seen but I would agree that they're not elite. His decision making, however, is superb. Doesn't panic regardless.

Inside forward 50 he's an absolute pressure merchant; he's like a rabid attack dog when he doesn't have the ball and tackles quite well. When he builds up a bit more of a body that's going to become even more of an asset.

But what I like most about him is his opportunistic tendencies around goal. He's very, very crafty and can pull goals out from nowhere.

His ability to apply defensive pressure combined with his goal-sense makes him an ideal project small forward who can rotate into the midfield.

Will he be a star? No, but in a shallow draft, if we were planning on using pick 60, or he was available in the rookie draft, I'd snap him up in a second.
You've just described Dahl.. haha. The way you describe him makes him sound like a first rounder. I think you're right in that I'm underselling him, but you are certainly overselling him, too. I'd say there is a middle ground there between our posts. Don't get me wrong, I'd still pick him up at a fairly late pick, but I'd still say there were much better options out there.

AARON Christensen learned all about what it takes to be an elite footballer when his older brother Allen was drafted by Geelong in 2009.
"Just seeing him in his first year was a great reality check," Aaron recalled in an interview with AFL.com.au during the NAB AFL Draft Combine.
"As a first-year player, he was only doing about 50 per cent of the pre-season training, but he would come home at six o'clock, have dinner and go to bed.
"Then he'd be up at six o'clock the next morning."
Initially, Aaron found it hard to comprehend such a heavy workload.
But after watching Allen receive his premiership medal following the Cats' win in the 2011 Grand Final, he became adamant that he wanted to try and make the grade himself.
Two years on, Aaron Christensen finds himself on the verge of achieving his dream.
When the NAB AFL Draft is held on November 21, the 18-year-old is rated a decent chance to be selected with a late pick.
Melbourne, North Melbourne, the Western Bulldogs and Port Adelaide are among the clubs to have already shown an interest in him

Christensen definitely has an x-factor and isn't a squib either. Hopefully that runs in the family. Would he slide to 42?

Oh yeah I know, but you focused on the negatives so my post focused on the positives. :P

His endurance isn't great and will need work to get it up to AFL standard. He's very small and doesn't impact contests that much. Not great one-on-one or overhead. At AFL level there's a risk he remains a stay-at-home small forward, which is the type of player that's becoming rare unless you're elite. So on and so forth. Out of the players likely to be available there, though, I see less flaws with him than I do with most of them.

...But injuries meant he was unable to show off his full potential.
"I haven't done a pre-season yet, because in both pre-seasons I've had hip problems," he said.

Worries me that.

Yeah, like I said, probably a combination of both our descriptions. He looks like he struggles a bit to find enough ball to impact regularly. Potential to be a player in the Lukey Dahl sort of ilk, but also the opposite in Nahas like tendancy's. Potential to go either way imo.

Much rather take someone like that at 42 instead of sideshow brown.

Agreed, 100%.
Why do we need to take another (unknown quantity of a) ruckman on when we have Minson in the form of his career, a capable replacement in Campbell, a still-developing (if injury-prone) young ruck in Cordy, and Roughead to rotate through from full-back?
Nonsense. Why waste a pick that can be used to grab an outside runner? I'm not happy with 27/28 year olds in Griffen and Cooney plus Macrae (and possibly Hunter later on) on the outside. Macca's proving he's more than capable of developing kids well so why not go for a potential gem, like Christensen if he slides?

The lack of ball-finding is probably due mostly to his slight build, but I agree it's something he needs to work on. Part of the reason I see him potentially being a stay-at-home small forward actually.

Nahas' biggest problem from my perspective is simply that he's lazy defensively and I don't think that describes Christensen at all. I can see what you mean though as a bit of a combination of the two.

Speaking of exciting small forwards does anybody think Willy Rioli will get picked? By anyone I mean; not just us.

i reckon he will
not many clubs would pick him up
needs to add body strength etc

If we happen to get Aaron (which i hope we do) one year in the vfl to help build him up
could become a deadly midfielder or forward like his brother.

make this happen!

Landsberger and jay Clark just posted their first mock draft. They have us taking aish at 4. Backs up what I heard this morning.

Landsberger in particular is very well connected at the dogs. If billings is gone, id be shocked if we passed on aish lads

Got a private line to Dalrymple does Sammy. Knew we loved Jake before anyone else last year.

Fronk, just wondering , have you seen sideshow play ?
Nope. Not saying he can't play king. I have no idea and nothing against him personally at all. Just a list balance/needs thing. I don't think we need another lanky, athletic, 2nd ruck/forward pocket.

Don't disagree Fronk in the perfect world, but this guy is a fair bit different to our current talls.
He is quicker , more athletic and better overhead .
I'm prepared to give up one spot for this guy and worry balancing the list next draft.
He just looks the sort of bloke that will blossom with a couple of AFL pre-seasons.
Having said all that , if our recruiters pass on him , I will trust their judgement totally.

No Zaine Cordy? ;)

I found the highlights video of Christensen and it says he is 190cm, is that just an error or do you think he'd actually be that tall? Just the way you guys described him I thought he was going to be around the 175cm mark :p

Sounds an interesting prospect though and I'm guessing we'd be looking at him for pick 60. Aish, Brown/Conlon, and someone like Christensen at 60 would be a pretty damn good draft.

Has there been any rumours that we are interested in Dayle Garlett at all?

I think we have the the right people within our club to keep him on track.
For pick #60 it's a gamble worth taking..

There's two Aaron Christensen's in this draft, the one we are interested in is the 174cm small forward from Geelong Falcons. The other is 190cm wingman from Calder, I believe.
