I'd like to see Boyd, Scharenberg, Kelly or Billings taken before Aish. I look at last year's draftees of Stringer, Hrovat, Hunter, Prudden - wouldn't question any of them. Love Macrae now, no doubt about it (especially the way he has gone about improving himself). Just think maybe we should have jumped on Ollie Wines (or Brodie Grundy) in that spot - and yes, I know we need more outside mids; I just think we need to get on the bigger bodies (within reason) who are ready to play - not the thinner types who need time to build muscle and tank (although again, within reason - Chad Wingard is a great exception to the rule).

I'm happy to be wrong about this (although Ayce Cordy keeps trying to prove me right).

Then again, I'm completely happy about the way McCartney is transforming the club; I'm sure that they'll try and get the best available.

You think Josh Kelly and Jack Billings have big bodies?

I was very strongly against Macrae last year, wanted either Mayes or Grundy at that pick.

I still think I'd rather those two, but am not complaining with Macrae.

Well said cross#4 - I think that's what I was trying to say in a round-about way. I also liked Mayes.

As for Kelly and Billings - I'm going to invoke my 'exception to the rule' clause. That's a somewhat contradictory opinion based on the footage I've seen, not so much about the body size.

Then again, with Aish's time at Norwood, he has played on the bigger bodies - again, I am happy to be wrong.

I actually don't care about Aish, Kelly or Billings. If we get them so be it. The one that I really like the look of is Marcus Bonptempelli, I have seen all the top players tapes and apart from Boyd he is the one I like the look of the most. I just like the way he moves, kicks, and his composure.

Players do actually put on weight after a period of time.
If we had a view not to draft a skinny type Bob Murphy would not have been picked.
Go with the best player not after one season but after 5 years.

Exactly. I'm certain we'll be better off for selecting Stringer and Macrae instead of Wines. Ollie's a great young player with an awesome approach to his footy but we didn't need any more inside mids.
You select what you need as part of your plan.

To be fair, I'm still 95% certain that Macrae will become a mostly inside midfielder once he builds his strength. The difference is that Wines is a better forward, while Macrae can play on the outside as well.

Here's a question for everyone given had we picked differently we could have had a combination of these players:

Moving forward would you rather have

Clay Smith and Jack Macrae

or

Ollie Wines and Hayden Crozier

I like him on the outside, but I can't see anyone who's an exclusive outside midfielder lasting long on our list or even making it onto it at all.
Fair call. Wines really does have excellent goal sense and a good set shot routine. I went to the Collingwood-Port elimination final and he was sensational to watch at times. I guess we don't hear about it as often here in Victoria, if he'd had the same season for a team like Collingwood or Hawthorn the media would be all over him.

I'm a little biased with that question so I won't answer, hahaha.

Wouldn't have anything to do with knowing Crozier, would it? ;) I know he's from out our way

A lot of footballers from out our way drafted in the past few years actually. :P One got delisted a few weeks ago unfortunately.

Smith and Macrae. Because they're ours

I'd have Smith over Wines. Smith I think can be an absolute gun like Jack from Sydney, but Wines doesn't have as much scope for improvement.

As for Crozier vs Macrae, they're different players. Crozier looks good but so does Macrae, and Crozier is more a forward whereas Macrae is a mid. Crozier looks to have a lot of energy and is going to be a very good player, but I think Macrae has something special in traffic. Lineball and I'd be happy with either one.

So I'd take Smith + Macrae.

I'm going to have to ask you to specify which footballer that was, I can't be bothered looking it up :D I know Markovic was a Ranges boy though?
I like seeing the Ranges boys get drafted to the Dogs if only because I know a little more about them than the usual draftees, but I'm not as sold on this year's bunch with the exception of Boyd. Mostly through knowing some of them to be tossers because I'm in the same age bracket, haha.

Dylan Orval, was a rookie listed player for the Crows. Others from the area include Marko, Crozier, Patton, Garner and a few others here and there.

I knew Orval, went to the same school as him. Was surprised he got picked up honestly.

High school I'm guessing? I went to his primary school so it would be pretty freaky if you said primary school. :P

High school, no one from primary school got anywhere in footy. I thought a couple might, I don't know what happened to them though.

Ha, would never have gotten that.
Heard the publicity around Crozier and Patton when they were picked - Crozier for 'that mark' against WA and Patton for obvious reasons. Usually go to watch Patton when GWS play in Melbourne, my uncle coached him as a junior at St Simons and thinks pretty highly of him. That same uncle, later when he wasn't coach (his son played in the team) watched their captain, Paul Seedsman, ditch a winless team mid-season and go play for Rowville. He also barracks for Collingwood :p

My primary school was ridiculous, most in the same couple of years too. Croz, Orval, Garner all within two years. Another one's brother now plays for Williamstown. Bizarre, really. Then Patton from my high school, but admittedly I never actually went to school with him as I changed schools. Met him through other people as well as a few others.

I played against Josh Bruce when he was a kid, while we're name dropping.
