I'm just going on what I've seen of him, and I haven't seen anything that lets me believe he could build up his inside game to that level.

But lets just pray it goes Boyd, Aish, Kelly, Scharenberg. As it really should. I still think the Aish sliding call is bogus.

Aish sliding to us isn't the craziest thing I've heard put it like this Boyd goes 1 Obviously, Melbourne need Grunt in there Midfield where Kelly comes in, Scharenberg would be the replacement for Fisher/Goddard whichever way you put it to play the Quarterback role in defence and which leaves Aish to us he has the poise and class needed for midfield transition for play around the ground

Melbourne need grunt in their midfield? So they pick Kelly?

St. Kilda need help in their midfield, but they pick Scharenberg?

...... Yes? You'll have to be specific

Kelly is the opposite of putting grunt in their midfield. If they want grunt that badly they'd be taking Sheed. Dunstan and Crouch are the other two gun inside mids, but pick 2 is far too much of a stretch. Pick 2 is still a big stretch for Sheed, but I can see it happening.

St. Kilda are desperate for more midfield talent, so they'd be taking Aish if he slid, otherwise Kelly. They will address the KPD needs through trading/PSD and midfielders in the draft. They won't be taking Scharenberg, or at least if they're serious about the rebuild they won't be.

Maybe they'll take Sheed
Unless they do end up trading it
I can't see them keeping it to be honest. Roos clearly doesn't rate the draft (or at least doesn't rate the players available at pick 2 for Melbourne's list) and I don't think they'd want to take an outside type. Sheed and Crouch are both possibilities if they can't trade it.

Does anyone know if there's a place where you can watch full replays of the U18 Champs?

Well to be fair anything into Melbourne's Midfield at the moment would be Grunt but I take your point haven't seen him much yet *Getting around to watching all National Champs games Again*

Scharenberg however even though I said can play the quarterback role I noticed today watch SA V WA he push into the Midfield at times so its not like he can't do it

Only my opinion

The Scharenberg suggestion I can see some merit, I just think that St. Kilda would want an out and out midfielder though, they are severely lacking in young gun mids coming through.

But they have Savage now!?!? ;)

I agree and hope we get Scharenberg would be great for us especially his contested marking and footskills

Good point! They have Steven who is a gun, and Savage. And... um... Armitage is alright I guess....

I seriously can't name another young Saints mid at all :p

Saunders I think will be pretty good
Farren Ray, Clinton Jones, Leigh Monty...okay I am not sure who else..

Jones is so past it it's not funny, i'm amazed he's still on the list. Ray i've always had a soft spot for but i'm not sure. Monty is still a gun.

I haven't heard of Saunders or Murdoch :p I wasn't joking when I said I couldn't name another Saints mid.

Do the Saints need more inside types, or more outside types? Or just more quality overall? I don't follow them at all really, so not too sure on their team.

Is the difference between pick 2 (likely aish) and p4 (likely Kelly or sharenburg) worth trading for?

We'd effectively be trading Kelly/scharenburg + 'x' for aish (& the 1% chance at boyd)

Considering who Melbourne want us to trade for it? Not at all.

Stating the bleeding obvious , but pick 4 for us is so important.
Are Aish and Kelly in any way comparable to Farren Ray ?
I have only seen brief vision of them both and to be honest can't get to excited.
Ray at the time was described to have the same abilities, high endurance , good skills and so on.
Sure he is going to play a lot of Afl , but we will all agree he is only run of the mill.

I am now hoping for Sharenberg, big body , with poise and looks a great kick.

Hoping some of you that have seen more of the others can change my mind about them ?

I am 99% sure that the Western Bulldogs will have Scharenburg available for their pick.

This is true. Billings or Aish (whichever is available) to St Kilda is looking likely.

Out of interest, if Scharenberg was taken at pick 2, do you reckon you would go for Aish or Kelly?

Aish or Billings is looking likely, with Kelly probably an outside chance. I reckon some further interviewing will be conducted in the next month or so and that could definitely change these things. If I was in charge, I'd take Aish.

On the Bulldogs draft, who would you be looking at? I currently have the Bulldogs taking Scharenburg, Marsh and Robertson in my mock draft and I was wondering if the Dogs were looking at a certain player/type of player.

Strange, because most people think Kelly is a monty to go to the Saints. But it appears that's not likely?

A lot of us on this board want Scharenberg, but there are a few that are saying we rate Kelly very highly. What we'll be doing is taking the most natural footballers. Marsh would be great but I don't think he would slide to our 2nd pick, really we'll just be taking the best available, which could be someone like Dumont. But if Marsh was there we'd definitely snap him up. We might just grab the slider of the draft, like you saw with us taking Hrovat last year. For our 3rd pick we'll probably go for a bit more height, Ben Brown if he's available, maybe Conlon.

Well fronkalicious - if you want your big bodied natural footballer, Matt Scharenberg it is! I would be very, very happy if we chose him with pick 4 based on what we can see in the video footage of him. I can definitely see the Goddard comparison, but with more inside game than Goddard could ever dream of.

So many posts suggesting that what the teams with picks before us will do in order to meet their perceived needs.
What ever happened to the mantra ..."you only draft ...best available..in the first 2 rounds. Then look at 'needs' only from round 3 +".

If the great mantra is endorsed by all [or most] clubs, our P4 theoretically should be the fourth best player available, regardless of our needs..

Personally I would go.... the best of those available on a needs first basis.
Sorry can't see the point of select an in and under mid, just because he is the next best player available @ P4.

As others have stated, I too have more faith now than in days gone bye, in our recruitment, and player development crew, to select a 'top
shelf candidate'.
Good luck for the recruiters in the up coming draft, as well as the current trade period. The final pieces of the jig-saw coming home this
year...Please. We Doggies supporters have clung on to hope for too damn long..
