Next Player in the Bulldogs Draft Potentials: James Aish

Pick two for Shiels is overs for Melbourne in my opinion. Plus I'm sure Melbourne has come out a few times and said they are open to trading pick 2, but only for established and experienced players to help balance out their list. Cannot see it happening. But interesting rumor none the less.

Shiel's girlfriend is Choko Williams daughter and he wants to come back to Melbourne because of her.

He's contracted for two more years and GWS won't trade him. GWS will set up a 'chance' meeting with a glamour from West Sydney* and he'll forget all about the one in Melbourne.

*Assuming there is such a thing.

I hear we have some interest. An opposition supporter mentioned he heard Kolodjashnij might go at 4 as well, I'd be happy enough with that :)

Wouldn't mind JK at all - but part of that may be coming from my home state bias :)

Not totally sure about this and it's more of a gut feel but I don't think we will take Aish at pick 4. I know we rate Scharenberg and Kelly above Aish. Just not sure who we would pick up at 4 if both the berg and Kelly are gone.

I find it perplexing if we rate Kelly above Aish, unless there is something going on with Aish that we know about.

Aish has shoulder problems.

Kelly is a super-fit player who rarely gets injured. Probably the most likely player in the draft to play 300 games.

On what I've seen and everything I've heard in terms of footballing talent theres no contest between Aish and Kelly.

Sharenberg for me. Not to excited by either Kelly or Aish.

Nope, not a no-contest at all. Aish is better, but Kelly's a gun too.

Also, as I already said, Aish has a shoulder problem, it's possible he could have a similar career to Tom Williams.

and I'm not excited by Scharenberg.

Played as a Key-Back in the Championships, which won't work out as well at AFL Level because he's only 190cm. His rebounding game is ok, nothing outstanding like people make it out to be (kicks like Goddard? please). I see him playing a similar role to that of Sam Fisher, and that's not worth a top 5 pick in my opinion.

@SamLandsberger
If GWS snags pick 2 from Melbourne, bank on a Tom Boyd-Josh Kelly quinella at the draft. Boyd the standout star and SOS a massive Kelly fan.

I guess St Kilda would go with Aish in this scenario. Anyone else getting real sick of GWS hoarding the top picks every year, **** me hate that "club" but to be honest if they go with Scharenberg instead of Kelly leaving Aish to us I won't mind too much :p

None of those guys live in western sydney... but i agree with your post. He'll meet someone else. Off topic but the COLA that the sydney teams get... i remember morton came out when this was first brought up again after sydney picked up franklin saying it should be 20% or that it was 20% more expensive in sydney that melbourne.... just a thought... but if i'm on 300-1,000,000 dollars a year... why do i need financial asssistance to purchase a property... I mean its not the afl thats forcing me to live on the north shore of sydney and pay a premium for that nice house near palm beach... but hey i'm going to complain about the price of living anyway. Rant over.

I agree with this, after Aish and Kelly he is the next player who could become a real headache for opposition given how much ball he finds and how he uses it, was tassies Captain too from memory. Wouldn't mind raiding Tassie this year. KK, Brown, JK, Alex Pearce, Brady Grey and Eli Templeton all fit niches just take your pick at who goes where. If Grant goes Thorp comes into the picture. I doubt Addison will stay given he'll never get a game in our back line or forward line next year unless our whole back six fell over. Personally if Addison went and we retained Grant I'd be happy seeing something like this draft day.

4:KK
38:Brown
56:JK, Grey or Pearce given on which is available (that's in order of preference)
Upgrade Goodes

Rookie: Small Forward (Pace and pressure is lax without Dahl in forward line and I'd like to see him further up the ground where he effects the game more), NO ONE WAY RUNNERS. I love Anastasio but his height is a problem of sorts (but doesn't matter given his game style)

I tend to agree with this. although he's a good footballer with skills, agile, a quick step, the way he was running around in the champs was really as a key back which just doesn't work at the next level. Also even though he's got a quick sprint he tends to lumber about a bit sometimes as well.

Also the biggest misconception ever is that his skills are elite. They're good but he couldn't shine Goddards shoes.

Would prefer KK if Kelly and Aish are gone

KK! :p. JK will go later on ;)

chris judd had shoulder problems.extending the logic, it's possible aish could have a similar career to him too?

Good logic. I'm looking forward to Cordy winning a couple of Brownlows.

Scharenberg looks like another tall flanker.... useful if he is super quick, which he isn't....
I prefer Aish, Kelly & Boyd. IF they are all gone in top 3, then I hope we have already traded out of Pick 4 and then get other players.
I think there is a top 3 this year, and at 4 we cold get the same pick at 10. Not much difference in my mind between the players.

So what has caused the blow out in expectancy with Aish ? Doesn't fit needs to teams with 1-3 ? Attitude? Deep &dark mystery? Mischievous journalism ? He has Pattonitis knees ?

It all seemed simple at #4. Needs/availability said either Kelly or Berger. Now, it's as clear as mud. If he IS still there at #4 do we take him (under best available mantra), or another who we consider "best available", or do we punt to fill a need ? Would seem awkward knocking back an opportunity to take the kid lauded as the "best young mid in the country"

It's interesting to hear the difference of opinion on Scharenberg. I'm of the opinion he plays in a similar fashion to that of Enright. He's not particularly fast, but he reads the play very well, spreads very well and sets up attacks coming out of defence. Plus I have confidence that he can push into the midfield in time as well. I'd be very happy with him as I would be with Kelly and Aish as well.
