Watched a few 18s champ games the other day.. Even though bontempelli didn't dominate.. He did all the right things... From everything I hear about him in the tac etc he seems to be dominating later in the season which shows he is a player that grows in confidence the more he plays in a certain league etc.. And he is a bottom age player.. I really hope we get him.. He is 192cm but runs like he is shorter than that.. He has proved he can play in the midfield.. You could also put him off half back etc.. Versatile player.

From what I saw I didn't really notice anyone grabbing the game by the scruff of the neck.. There was no absolute stand out.. Obviously this is excluding boyd..

And from what I've seen of Scharenberg.. I can not see him playing midfield at all..

Lewy Taylor didn't impress you?

I guess this is where the draft gets interesting.. everyone sees things differently!

I did think he was good and is going to be a good player.. but I don't see him as a top 5 pick.. From what I've seen to me he dosent look like he is going to be a 'star'.

Maybe I'm just hard to please and I have been looking at the wrong things (I am not a recruiter so is very likely) .. but yeah that was my take on it all.

Someone please tell me it's not possible, Kelly or Aish could end up a Tambling or Ray type.

Aish though has much better composure and footballing talent, I think barring injury the minimum he becomes is Bryce Gibbs.

The thing that bothers me about Aish and Kelly is they are light bodied and look more than ok on the outside.
But they are not the mid field bulls of previous drafts.
Sharenberg to me looks a lock 200 gamer, sure he may not end a super star, but I don't see great risk with him.

I asked gilbert gardiner before on the herald sun chat who the dogs liked at pick 4 and he said they like jack billings alot

We've heard that we like Scharenberg, Billings, Kelly, Aish at pick 4. And of course Boyd if he slips. So basically it's going to be one of those players that we pick, not much has changed in the past couple of months.

Regarding Hourigan, I'm very confident he'll slip past pick 30-40. People get way too hyped up with these types of pure full-forward players. Saw it with Tim Membrey last year & Panos back in 2009.

The risk in taking Scharenberg at pick 4 is that we might be missing out on a superstar. Lewis Taylor, James Aish & Josh Kelly are all potential superstars and I'd take all 3 over Scharenberg in a heartbeat.

Also, there are stacks upon stacks of players who started out light-bodied, then went on to become superstars.

The guy you should be hoping we draft is Nathan Freeman then, he's a strong body who plays inside and out and is really fast. Not anything like as composed and skilled as Aish though, but might complement what we already have better.

You no doubt have a better handle on than me GrandBlue , so it seems in your opinion as long as we don't take Sharenberg, we may end with a star ?

Haven't seen any of Freeman , is there any vision around ?
Doesn't seem to be any chance in the first 4 , with everything I have read.

and darcy hourigan will be a 200 game player. absolute gun.

Firstly, how did you manage to view the replays of the champs games?

Secondly, I'm not so convinced about Hourigan. He looked very good in the AIS v Euro game, but after that he just looks to me to be a guy who benefited heavily from being the focal point of a completely dominant SA side.

Reminds me a lot of Matthew Panos.

How can you be sure? I don't think the media have much idea this far away. Last year I can't remember if any media saying we are into Stringer at this point in time last year. There was a lot of talk he would come to us on bigfooty, but not in the media. I thought it would be pretty obvious we were very interested since he was at the club 3 times for check ups. Yet still he was late call up to the draft in the end because nobody in the media had any idea until the last week of the draft.

First question: I recorded it on Foxtel when it was on back then and can watch the replays whenever..

And to what you said in the second point. Yeah fair enough.. I haven't seen enough of Panos and the like in the younger competition so I don't really have a rebuttal to what you are saying.. all I can say is that I like the look of him and believe he will make it.. maybe if he doesn't make it I will then see totally where you are coming from in regards to the type of player you think he is (panos etc).

But can I just ask anyway, what don't you like about his game?

What was the deal with Stringer BTW.. I remember reading somewhere that he didn't get a call up to the combine? is that right or wrong?

Wrong. He was at the combine.

He wasn't initially invited to the draft night on the GC (they only invite people who are likely to go top 10), until they were made known that we were going to take him.

I just don't see how we won't pick one of them with pick 4. For mine they are the top 5 standouts. Taylor is immensely talented but I can't see him being pick 5 at all. Guys like KK/Lennon I wouldn't be averse to taking at pick 4, but I rate them as behind that top 5.

Stringer would have been taken higher if not for his broken leg. There isn't anybody like that in this year's draft pool. The Bigfooty buzz this year has been Scharenberg so we might just get him :p

Yeah that's what I must have confused it with. Thanks.

I got disinterested from football after our prelim losses for a couple of years. Pretty much when we got Sherman. Only got back into it at the start of the year.. (btw i was always a paid up member)!

Fair enough, I'm just not sure our recruiters see it that way.

Tambling and Ray were both footy-dumb. Aish and Kelly are supposed to be footy smart.

I suppose you could worry that they turn out like Scully - king of the kids, but slow to adapt to the higher level.

Your not helping Stefoid, your supposed to make me feel better about them !

He's undersized as a key forward, not a great athlete and is a bit on the heavy side. He's the type of guy that will tear a local competition to shreds, but will be either athletically inept or physically dominated at the elite level depending on where he is played.

If he played in a struggling side, e.g. Tasmania, I think we would know a fair bit more about him. But playing in a dominant side I think it has made it easy for a lot of observers to gloss over his flaws.

also total football what are your thoughts on Bontompelli?

I like Bontempelli, but I don't think as much as a lot of others seem to. I think he's a legitimate 10-20 prospect, he's a nice user of the ball, an intriguing size etc. but he just seems a bit soft from what I've seen of him.

One of Kelly or Aish would be nice but if they don't fall through it is a toss of a coin between KK and Sharenberg, just think KK will be the better player (more impact on games) in the end, Scharenberg will be a good player don't get me wrong here it is just that he hasn't made the next step that was expected.

also where did this Birchell comparison come from? Surely they have a better comparison than that, are they just trying to say that because his a tassie boy he plays like another tassie boy?

Scully was fine before his injury.

I remember he picked up 40 touches against us when we were a top 4 side.
