Okay, so I've looked into this, Emma Quayle has never specifically said Aish is going to slip to 6, she just someone will slip to 6 which is of course accurate, 6 can't go into 5. Yay MATHS!!!

This post is not at all factual.

Emma Quayle reckons it is close to certain that we will get Billings at 4.
Thinks kolodjashnij will go to Suns at 5 and that Aish will slip to the pies at 6!!!

She sais SOS loves Kelly and the draft will go like this:

Pick 1: GWS Tom Boyd
Pick 2: GWS Josh Kelly
Pick 3: StK Matt Scharenberg
Pick 4: WB Jack Billings
Pick 5: GC Kade Koladjashnij
Pick 6: COLL James Aish

Here's her tweet.

@d_mar17 could be aish, scharenberg... someone will slip

4. Left footer, which we need more of

Why do we need more left footers? Who cares what their preferred foot is, it has no impact on their footballing ability whatsoever.
It's a contested possession rate, it has nothing to do with time on ground. Agreeable that he might not have played as inside as he would have sans the shoulder injury, but it's important to note that these particular stats were taken over the two years. I have not see Aish live like yourself so i can't comment as well as you but i just thought it's interesting that his contested possession stats are compatible with the likes of Morton who in juniors also looked like a classy prospect and was taken rather high. I'll also highlight that I still believe that Aish should go 2nd/3rd in the draft.

and that's exactly the case, and precisely why I don't care for stats at all.

I judge players from what I see with my own eyes, and James Aish & Lewis Taylor are the clear standouts.

Billings reminds me of Jimmy Bartel. I'd love us to grab him. Elite in so many area's and is a complete professional on and off the field. I'm hunting down an article written about him a few years back when he was touted as a possible #1 pick. If I find it, you'll understand how hard he worked even as a very young kid. Might be a very similar situation with Sam Mayes last year, where everyone had massive doubts about his transition into the midfield after playing almost completely as a half forward flanker. Look how that turned out.. He's comfortably Brisbane's best player under 21 years old and had an amazing debut season.

If the club thinks Billings is the 4th best player in this draft, then I'd back them in.

ive had a gutful of top 3-4 players slipping to collingwood

People talk about GC and GWS, but I wonder if the actual sleeping giant of the next 5 years is Buckley's Pies. They are collecting an awful lot of young stars, and they have plenty of good years left from their best players.

I'm going to preface what I am going to say with this:

I don't necessarily think this is right and I don't want griffen traded.. BUT... Let's say GWS offered pick 1,2 and patton .. What would you say... If that's overs (which I don't think it is) what would you say to pick 1,2 alone?

I'd take 1, 2 and Patton, I would have a strong think about 1 and 2 also.

Except they won't offer picks 1, 2 and Patton for Griffen.

Ofcourse not, but that wasn't what I was suggesting. The question is simply asking would you accept it.

I'd accept that every day of the week. I'm sorry to the Griff lovers, but if you get offered two #1 picks and a #2 pick for any player in the competition, you take it.

In saying that, no club would ever offer the remote possibility of it happening.

**** Off.

For a second there i thought you were telling me to F**k off... but now i understand. Yeah I agree completely. Pretty much Picks 1, 2 and Patton would make sense.. but we aren't gonna trade away an absolutle star for 2 potential high chances of being stars.. the key word there being potential..

BTW guys the only reason I'm asking this is to see what everyone thought.

I would only think about trading Ryan Griffen for one person on GWS, Jeremy Cameron.

Why not offer Boyd. AFL captain , 30 plus possessions a game. Pick 1 for Boyd for 1and 2 great trade.

Don't think they would accept that. How about Pick 1 for Pick 4 & M.Boyd.. I think yes.

Injury prone players like Williams, Higgins an Wood have no currency for GWS for such a high pick.

We can only hope that Leon has a soft spot and hands us pick 1 for a club his son could play for in the next decade. :D

.

Dale Thomas didn't play a game last year due to injury, didn't stop Collingwood from getting a first round draft pick in compensation.

Some excepts from that article by Callum Twomey in June 2012.

Thanks, Dale4captain.

Sounds like a kid who wants to learn it all and will do everything to improve. And appears to have great skills. Can understand why the Maccas might rate this kid.

At least once a day, Billings, who has starred at this year's NAB AFL Under-18 Championships with Vic Metro, wades through his outdoor pool in the garden of his Kew home in Melbourne's inner east, making sure his legs are fresh enough to run out his next training session or game.

On Tuesday night, a bitterly cold one in Melbourne, Billings was waist deep in water at about 10pm after Metro training, his iPod headphones and jumper offering the only respite from the chill. "He's very diligent, all the time," says Graeme.

Billings is a very particular player on the field, too. He watches games unfold, moves to the right spots at the right time, sizes up options with the ball, and usually delivers with precision by foot. Onlookers best describe him as uncomplicated. He works hard, but makes things look easy, and all this has been on show so far in the carnival.

...........
"His poise when he's got the ball and when he's under pressure makes him a real standout; he just looks comfortable no matter what's going on," one club recruiter said this week. "If he keeps going at the natural rate of improvement, he'll be somewhere at the top of the draft next year."
It's easy to see why Billings has people excited. Already, Billings' kicking is at an elite AFL standard according to Oakleigh Chargers regional manager Mark Smart. He's also quick and clever.
..........
Billings isn't big yet (he's near-on 182cm and 73kg) but he hasn't been daunted by playing on stronger and older opponents, has learned a few things, and feels better for the chance.
"It has made me feel more comfortable that I can match it," Billings told AFL.com.au.
"Especially being younger, you always think they're going to be bigger, but I've backed myself and I'm really enjoying it."
............
Those attributes show in his footy, particularly in his overhead marking. "It's one of my strengths," Billings says. "I've been working on it a lot and have been able to take a few grabs."
..............
Undoubtedly Billings' greatest weapon, however, is his kicking. Graeme remembers Jack first picking up a footy and immediately going to his left side, and like any classy left-footer Billings has a classically smooth action.
He's especially dangerous near goal, able to kick goals from any angle or spot a better target on the lead.
Billings is told to back himself with his kicking and he does, but unlike many brilliant left-foot kicks he's remained dedicated to making his right side better.
It's been said that when he guides the ball to his right foot, it can sometimes be hard to tell which side is his preference.
But Billings is learning to not rely on his kicking all the time. At the start of the year he went to the Chargers looking for feedback and they thought he needed to handball more, and he's taken it on board. He sees West Coast's Andrew Gaff, who was drafted from the Chargers and also played at Billings' junior club Kew Comets, and notices how Gaff makes an influence with his hands.
"Last year at the under-16 championships you'd look at my stats and I'd have however many kicks and then maybe one or two handballs," he says. "I've just tried to work on that this year so that whenever I get it I always look for the handball option."

That's from almost 2 years ago, very impressive from a 16 year old kid. Not surprised at all that Macca rates him with an attitude like that.

So if reports are true with GWS being very keen on both Kelly and Scharenberg, that could be the top 2... Saints need a mid badly so it's not outside the realms of possibility that they pick up Aish at 3, leaving Boyd for us

Saints enquired about trading up for pick one. Which is more than obvious they were interested in Boyd. He will not slip to us. As much as Saints need midfielders more, can still see them going with a best available approach. Would chew at me inside a little if GWS pass on Boyd and the Saints grab him. But that's usually how it ends up.

Can someone explain how Aish has dropped so far in recruiters estimations. I know he didn't participate in the combine but that's not the be-all-end-all. Did he interview poorly, is there something going on we don't know?

I'm one of those people wondering if Aish is really as good as he is. Disappeared in the middle of the season, and struggled to shake off a tag a few times. I think I'd prefer Kelly or Scharenberg personally.

He disappeared because he just came back from a shoulder problem.

As for tagging, he was the only one in the Championships getting tagged at all. It's something you rarely ever see happening at under 18 level.

Dale Thomas didn't play a game last year due to injury, didn't stop Collingwood from getting a first round draft pick in compensation.

He played 5 but I understand your point. The compensation system is more based on a formula of age, contract being offered etc rather than how good the player is at the moment.

The more I think about it, the more I would be ok with Billings. He's stuck in my mind and a lot of the young players don't do it. He is elite as a forward, absolutely elite, i've heard he's handy off half back.

I think he could be like Mayes. There were a lot of doubts on Mayes' ability to play midfield, but he came in this year and dispelled those doubts. Not saying Billings will do that, but I get the feeling he is very capable of doing that.

The more I think about it, the more I don't want us to take Billings because then my info is wrong :D. Na I think he's too similar to that of Higgins and Hunter anyway. Not sure he's a great fit for us.

Not saying that he would be a good fit, I mean the top 4 that have been talked about (Kelly, Aish, Boyd, Scharenberg) all suit our needs a lot better. I'm just hearing a lot of negativity towards getting Billings, but I don't think he would be a bad pick, especially with his skill set.

But of course if we push him to half back, then he could become a weapon there for us.
