The classy, prime mover from WA averaged 27.8 disposals in his four outings, eventually taking home the Larke Medal for Division 1′s best player award. Sheed is an incredible talent; and arguably was the best performed and well-rounded midfielder of the champs, who should be rated much higher than some are giving him credit for. Sheed is high production midfielder, easily shakes a tag, has the endurance and football smarts to run all day, and accumulates an elite number of possessions, whilst averaging 13kms a match throughout the championships.
elite ball user, Sheed is damaging on either side of his body, and relishes a one on one contest when resting up forward. He’s a fantastic pressure player, makes good decisions when the heat is on, and when the whips are cracking – Sheed is at the forefront, willing his team on. Rarely ever caught with the footy, Sheed is one of – if not the most exciting prospect in this year’s draft.

Interesting that Sheed can "easily shake a tag" while Aish, in his interview on the AFL website states that this year "facing serious tags for the first time has given him a lot to work on". Perhaps, this is partly explains why Aish is slated to slide a bit.

Billy Hartung owned him in the champs... kept aish to 4 disposals to half time while hartung racked up 17 i think from memory. I know this is a forum and its all opinion based and purely based on that my preferences for the no 4 pick would be Sheed or Sharenberg.

Not that i doubt what your saying... But reading through his resume.... i'm dumbfounded to think this bloke will apparently slide to Westcoast's pick...Very good Resume for mine.

Most of the profiles on that webpage make them sound like stars. The profile on Sheed is way over exaggerated IMO. The way I see it he's good to very good at most aspects, just not elite. To me, he lacks that one special thing that will make him a star or elite.

I know I've talked down Billings a lot, but I'd much rather him over Sheed. Sheed will still end up a very nice footballer, but not really what we need or what I'd use a top 5 on. Billings I don't think is a great need either but he's the type of player I'd be comfortable with using a top 5 pick on. He could be very special, I don't think Sheed will be.

I know I am going to get a lot of flack for this one :p But I wont be disappointed like most if we passed on Aish at pick four. Whilst he is a good player, and looks a touch classy on his highlight reels (who doesn't?) But just from gather a few things I have read, and what others have said, along with stats. I don't think he is the superstar or as good as most make him out to be. Just a little overhyped. Like I said once, he can struggle to handle a tag at times and has been known to go missing. Plus I think someone posted his average possessions and it was something like 15-16 possessions a game? That's not all great for an inside midfielder. Imagine at an elite level with experienced taggers and bigger bodies.

I would rather Kelly myself if I had to pick between the two, just as talented football skills wise, but also a much better athlete. Averages 27-28 possessions a game, a good kick, great endurance, handy bursts of speed, outside role, and a smart reader of the game. Pretty much a more complete footballer for me, and fills a needs role more than Aish does.

That being said, if Kelly was gone. I probably wont be to fussed if we went someone else either. We already have a heap of young midfielders, who are yet to hit any heights and show what they are capable of. Why do we need another? I'd think we'd go for a best available approach that fills a need. Aish isn't a big area of need for us, compared to other areas of the ground that could do with fresh talent.

Not saying I don't rate him, or that I wont be happy if we got him, because I would be happy with the pick if we selected him. I just don't see him in the same mould as O'Meara and one of those must draft midfielders. I just wouldn't start a riot like most on here if we passed on him.

Aish is a bit younger than the rest, plus he has been playing in the SANFL already, hasnt he?

Pretty sure we do as well, he is versatile enough to play off half back and is a very safe pick. Just think think he lacks a bit of hurt factor and isn't that creative. I think these are the areas we need the most in to go along with composure. I'd much rather look at others.

yes, yes, hurt factor. got it in one. Players prepared to carry the ball and use it creatively.

I think Ive settled on the fact that we will get one of aish, kelly or billings and as all three are billed as classy players who use the ball well, I cant get too worked up about which we end up with. these are the top 5-worthy players that we want - classy, low-risk, 200 game players. I dont want to 'shock' anyone by taking another vanilla, hard-at-it, workhorse. We have those in spades.

Good draft to have a pick in the top 4, I reckon.

Why not Acres , goal kicker & great overhead mid ? Anyone ?

Lewis Taylor is exactly what people want for pick four.

Explosive pace, elite footskills, very good inside and outside. He is still my number one priority.

My current standing of who I'd take is Taylor>Aish>Billings>Bontempelli, only one of these guys I haven't seen enough of to make a judgment on is Bontempelli. Just getting him in there from the hype and potential.

If were looking for a Bob Murphy 2.0 KK is our man.

Wouldn't mind us going and raiding Tasmania this year, there are a couple of players which really would be handy from there. KK, JK, Templeton, Pearce and Grey, any of those five are the ones I'd really love to get. the Twins and the Burnie boys are at the top of the list if Essedon **** up and let Crameri go in the PSD. I have a suspicion that if that occurs then Addison will be let go, if not then he stays.

I'd love Templeton. Just can't see him lasting to our 3rd round, unfortunately.

Yes, but like I said, I am just saying that I won't be upset if we passed on him like some on here will be. Not saying I don't want him, or don't rate him. But we have enough young midfielders that still need time to show something. That I wont be surprised if we passed on him, for a player that fills a positional or role need. I just rate Kelly as a more complete midfielder.

We can't go too small through the midfield though, or teams will just kick the ball to a contest each time. He does sound good though, could he fill a role off HB until he matures a bit(ALA Griffen)?

I am sure that, once you are assessed as having the requisite skill set, then your attitude to self improvement, to learning all the little things, to accepting and learning to change your role as team required, to thinking through and reading the game as it unfolds, to self sacrificing for the team, to willing yourself to go above and beyond, to playing with injury, and to taking on leadership as a natural.....is everything. A fanatical desire to succeed and be better in a very competitive world where most are trying to do the same is what sets elite players apart. The Swans and Cats have shown us that character is vitally important to playing a successful team game under the fiercest of pressure.

Billings for me fits the above criteria better than others I have read about (which is scanty). But I am sure the Macs will know who fits this criteria best; I am happy to go along with their judgement.

Interesting to read what i have about hurt factor and how it doesn't apply to Sheed.
He kicks goals from anywhere, including outside 50, he baulks and takes on his man on a regular basis and he does a lot of this prolifically. That's enough hurt factor for me

I think Cordy is in a bit of trouble anyway.

I think this will honestly be his last season to show anything. They will use him in the role they want him to full time in the VFL squad. If he shows a fair bit at VFL, it might just be enough to get a second year. But if he cannot crack into the Senior squad, or struggles there, he could be in trouble.

I'm sort of hoping Crameri goes into the preseason draft. As long as we actually get him. The AFL Draft is my favorite part of the offseason, and their is nothing more I like than having live picks, particularly first and second round picks. If we went ahead with one of the proposed deals, and our next pick is in the 60's, it wont be as exciting for me anyways, don't like waiting that long between picks :p

There is 20 players I want at our second round pick if we still keep it, so I am hoping we do

GrandBlue, would you take Billings before Aish ? classy kid and good over head, something we don't have a lot of.
No.

Granted, that video makes him look really impressive, but it still bugs me that he spent the vast majority of the championships playing in the forward line. People will bring up Sam Mayes, but he proved himself by spending a season in the midfield before shifting to that forward role in 2012.

I remember Mark LeCras's season in 2009: Not only did he kick 50 goals, he was kicking them from set-shots, snaps, bananas, and looked so classy & flairy while doing so. West Coast Supporters thought he'd make a seamless transition into the midfield where he'd truly fulfill his potential, but ultimately, it never really worked out, even prior to getting injured. This is the main reason I'm concerned about taking Billings at #4, particularly ahead of Aish- No matter how amazing he looks, there are no guarantees he'll make the transition to the midfield, and while he could become a gun small forward, we would have still missed out on the gun classy midfielder we're craving for in Aish.
