There's two Aaron Christensen's in this draft, the one we are interested in is the 174cm small forward from Geelong Falcons. The other is 190cm wingman from Calder, I believe.
Ahh that makes sense then :p I'll try and find a video for the other one

EDIT: http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-10-20/aaron-christensen-falcons

Really like the look of him, definitely what we need and I'm not worried about his height because our forward line will already be so tall. Also I don't think we would recruit him unless we thought he had midfield potential in a few years.

Agreed. A 'white' footballer from Toorak who skips training with an AFL club to get on the piss would be given the flick too.

Daniel Connors says hi...

It's nothing to do with his race. It's due to the fact that he's been an idiot and hasn't been serious enough.

And the not insignificant matter of posting online photos with hugely dilated pupils

I think a cat may of gotten out of the bag because I cant find any reference to him in any messages from Sammy on HS chat.....

Hi Sam, hearing that Dogs interested in Garlett. Do you think the Dogs are a chance and if so, which pick?
Dogs won't take Garlett.

Hmmm.... that is interesting.

I'm sure he posted that we would take Jake Needham in the live chat.

Do we have any former club champions coaching out in rural South Australia?
The kid seems so far off the radar, surely it would have to be a rookie pick.

Went on to say we will get a kid called Jake Needham.
Anyone know anything about him?

All I can find are some underwhelming stats playing for Gawler Central in Colts.
Don't think he was even invited to the state screenings.

Odd thing for Landsberger to say, wouldn't think he'd be dishing up privileged info if he wanted to maintain good connections at the club. Maybe it is some kind of joke that I missed?

Or maybe Prudden v2.0....

I wouldnt rule out Garlett completely. Hearing from more than one source that there has been an interest there and it was pretty strong a few months back. Strong interest from North + 1 more team (i cant recall). Maybe the Dogs have dropped off, maybe not. Its a smoke and mirrors scenarion the Draft, especially around mid-late picks.
If Sam has in fact "privileged info", and the Dogs want him to last until pick 42, then surely Sam doesnt put it out there that Dogs are strongly interested.

I like to think that comes under "he's been an idiot."

Both of us are probably reading way too much into a potential throwaway line by Landsberger but I reckon there could be a connection between James Aish and Jake Needham...
Jesse Aish (James' cousin) played for South Gawler last year and I know his family (Aish) are a tight knit group so is it possible that James and Jake know each other?????
Not to say Needham can/can't play I couldn't tell you either way but could it be possible that we are recruiting Aish plus a buddy (Needham) so he doesn't get homesick etc.???

Any South Australians amongst us??? Preferably from Gawler..:D

Just read on WOOF theres a rumour going around that Aish is scaring a few clubs off in interviews because they think he will return to SA after the 2 years, probably just BS but could be a reason why he is randomly a chance to get to us now. So maybe they are good mates and we want to be able to keep him at the club ;)

I know you are joking ?
Only champion racehorses need a companion.

By no way am I stating it as fact but it could be a possibility i.e. Aish/Needham

On the rumour about Aish being a potential homesick boy in a year, 2 years time etc. its been around for nearly a year now.. I'm not sure how true it is but I would back our club/fans etc. to make him feel at home. You got to remember a lot of rumours get circulated about high draft picks (refer Jack Darling) by clubs etc. so that the player can slip down the order....

Like what I said in my first post about this subject its very interesting whatever the outcome is....

I love reading the "experts" current writes ups on the draft kids and what "sort" they are. Is Amazing how players change positions and perceptions once they've been at AFL level.

Here is Ryan Griffen's early bio from 2006 describing him as some sort of lock down tagging defender. I remember Scotty Clayton labelled Griff as "the best kick in the world" at draft time!

....a "defender, both in a man-marking role and as a launching pad for attacking moves". Griffen has already displayed a good deal of the latter at the midway point of the 2006 season and most football critics anticipate that he will have a long career. He is an explosive but inconsistent midfielder, but has time to stamp himself as one of the elite players of the game.

.

I'd say that's a fair description of early Griffen, he did start off a back flank.

Griffen was SA captain in very good 18s team and played midfield at the time. I guess he was being tried as a defender to get his hands dirty while he tried to break into the middle, we had some very good mids to compete against.

Griff was drafted in 2004 so that comment is based on his AFL performance at the time rather then his draft year

The strange thing is it wasn't really a throw away line, I think the Garlett to Dogs question was the final question he responded to in the chat and he threw the Needham thing in completely unsolicited and almost unrelated. It was almost like something he was wanting to throw out there.

It's quite possible that it is just a scenario that he has come up with to allay his own homesickness fears for Aish.
But it was weird for him to express it in that forum.

Yes I know. That bio was from 2006 Season RecordGuide. I'm comparing early write ups/quotes on players pre and post draft to how they turned out as current players.

No.

and who are you to say it's a gamble worth taking? The only ones who know that are the recruiters who are interviewing him.
Having seen him play, it's impossible that his attitude is bad enough to not justify taking a punt on him. He'll be alright though, I know a few of his mates and although he's been a bit naughty in the past, he has indeed cleaned his act up a bit.

Sheehan On Aaron Christensen

Added AFL national and international talent manager Kevin Sheehan: "He's a creative player who has an innate ability to put the game into slow motion when the ball is in his hands.

Geez, with us drafting few players that have had the slow motion aspect mentioned about them at some point. If we keep this up, watching a Bulldogs game will be like watching a Matrix movie :p Will take 5 hours to complete.

Love it:)

Gartlett was only doing was 70% of other draft hopefuls do, only difference was he was an idiot and posted it to his own Instagram/Facebook.

You're having a laugh, aren't you?

If you think 70% of the kids in the system are out there drinking on a Saturday night then you are seriously out of touch with reality.

Having gone to a very esteemed footballing school, I know a lot of blokes who went through the TAC Cup and other relevant pathways to end up in the AFL, and I know a bunch of kids who are doing it at the moment and I reckon you'd be lucky to see them eat a packet of potato chips on a weekend, let alone go out chopping lines and eating pills.

The kids are extremely, extremely professional these days. And that's why no one wants to touch Dayle Garlett.

Obviously my area is the difference then. Because I also went to one of the biggest football schools in Victoria, and can't say the same.

Maybe it's just a country thing.

Definitely a country thing, then. Probably also why North Ballarat is hardly churning them out.
Dunno about North Ballarat not churning them out. 15 players drafted from their system in the last two years, including one of the best young midfielders going around (Brad Crouch).

They have had a very bad year though, played a lot of young kids.

15!? You're not counting mature-aged recruits from North Ballarat Roosters, are you? And how many of those kids came on scholarships from NT/NSW? And considering the region they get to cherry-pick from.. Calder had 7 go in the national draft just last year alone.

Agree re Crouch.
