Brett Anderson's Phantom Draft

1 - Boyd
2 - Kelly
3 - Billings
4 - Aish
5 - Kolodjashnij
6 - Salem
7 - McCarthy
8 - McDonald
9 - Scharenberg
10 - Bontempelli
11 - Sheed
12 - Lennon
13 - Freeman
14 - Cutler
15 - Merrett
16 - Acres
17 - Dumont
18 - Taylor
19 - Crouch
20 - Jones

Look's like he has us taking Aish.

Tristan Foenander's also had a brief crack at it.

1.Boyd
2.Kelly
3.Billings
4.Aish
5.Kolodjashnij
6.Scharenberg
7.Lennon
8.McDonald
9.Freeman
10.Bontempelli
11.Sheed
12. Z.Jones

Once again, same top four, and us taking Aish.

So happy about this. Two journalists who do their research plus Fronk's source (which had us taking Macrae last year i think?) makes me think that St Kilda and GWS are what's stopping us from getting him.

There are some even weirder ones in Anderson's though. Cutler at 14 (I'm not even sure he'll get drafted...) and Merrett at 15 (second rounder at best I'd have thought) are way too early for mine. Taylor at 18?!

agree lots of surprises but he does do it based on what he's been hearing so it's an interesting spanner in the works. He's definitely not always right though.

someone make sure you get into a newsagent today, have a peak at Brett Anderson's mock in inside footy and report it here! I want to know what he thinks but I can't really get it because i'm in Chile

Chile ? you on a membership drive ? A good place for a home game ?

So what if Aish is likened to Gibbs. Doesn't mean we will pass on him just because he MAY never get a hard ball.

The way the phantom drafts looks, and looking at all the possible top ten selections
. I have changed my thinking .
I know Macca was outvoted last year, he wanted Ollie Wines, I don't think anyone is complaining we did well with Stringer and Mcare. But with this in mind I believe we will select Scharenberg, big strong body, natural leader, really good kid who is ready to go. His Carnival was as good as anyone else in top ten. SA coach could not seperate Scharenberg or Aish.
I believe we will take Scharenberg at 4, it all points his way. He has said he is not worried about leaving home.

Haha, if getting my housemates to go for the dogs counts as a membership drive. Would love a home game here, the Chile market would be ours too as Jose Romero is Chilean (hence why he doesn't like the term 'wog squad'). Just a pity we're 14 hours away here. Maybe off season events would be a good idea.

Was in Chile a few months back. Great country, one of my favourites of South America. Where are you living?

Never seen the bloke play so probably don't know what I am talking about , but I feel a little nervous about Aish. If he is in any way similar to Gibbs , then pass from me.
I will make a prediction that if we draft him and it is obvious he can't win the odd hard ball after a year or two on the list ----- we will have a new whipping boy on this board !

I've seen Aish hit the ball pretty hard. Also our footy club prioritises contested ball drills so i wouldn't worry about this Gibbs talk. Don't know where it came from really, quite different players. But yes, Aish will develop very well in a contested footy system

Phew. Thank God.
I don't know where or how the talk started to be completely honest. There's a marked difference between a mostly outside player and a 'soft' player. Aish may get most of his possessions on the outside, but he'll hit the packs very hard if he needs to.

Wow! that is interesting.
You would think Cutler is too similar to Plowman for GWS & if Sydney were going small at 15 Taylor would be all over Merret.

this.

we (as a BF community) need to realise the difference between 'outside' (robert murphy) and 'soft / won't go when it's is turn' (er, jordy mcmahon?). it's getting tiresome

Looks like the top 3 is starting to become pretty clear.

For us, I'm still not convinced we'll pick Aish just yet. Could go either way between him, Scharenberg or Kolodjashnij.

As for Lewis Taylor, if he really does last to the Saints pick, then all of a sudden, they've just won the McEvoy trade, and by some distance too. Just you wait.

I'd have Cutler very low down on the KPD 'ladder'. If GWS wanted a key defender they should be taking Gardiner.

Then again, some of their drafting decisions have been bloody ordinary from my point of view, so it wouldn't surprise me.

It wouldn't surprise me either. I feel like worst case Scharenburg becomes (as much as I hate to say it) a Nick Maxwell type, at best a bigger slightly less damaging Hodge type. I think he would be a great get for Brisbane if he lasts to 7.

Brett Anderson is much closer with Cutler than BigFooty is.
I'm not doubting Anderson's info, it would just be a baffling choice for me. I don't rate him all that highly and to take him top 15 would be a pretty odd decision. Prior to seeing Anderson's draft I thought Cutler would go in the 40-60 range, if at all.

It started from a north melbourne poster who came on the board and said we were planning on taking KK at pick 4, when further questioned about his source he briefly just aligned current draftees with past players which was just his opinion… but one of those he said was Aish - Gibbs, Billings - Didak, Kelly - Gaff… As per usual though once something like that has been mentioned it becomes the central focal point… Just how Billings was the best thing since sliced bread 5 days ago or whenever his profile came out on the afl website… then KK's comes out and now he's the best pick because he's nothing like that aish bloke who doesn't win a hardball...

This is also why I hate player comparisons...there is never a complete match, and when you say anything of the, "Oh he plays like ________," variety, people interpret it as them being identical players with all the same flaws and strengths. It's why I always dance around the question when people ask me for player comparisons. I hate giving them.

Yep, macrae selection became clear about 4 days before the draft and was posted on here.

Dalrymple very much likes aish. I'd be surprised if he passed on him if he's there. Only way I can possibly see it happening is if billings is somehow also there and even then I think it would be a 50/50 that we'd still take aish.

From what i've seen of Aish, he doesn't shirk the contest UNLESS it's to put himself in a better position. Compare that to Gibbs, who seems to shirk 50% of his contests and lives up to the nickname "Squibbs". Aish definitely can do it, but as had been said numerous times, in most of his games he didn't need to play as an inside mid! You wouldn't be asking Jetta to be playing inside when you've got Kennedy, Jack, O'Keefe etc. all in there
