Thats interesting, Sammy Landsberger has us really liking Aish.

Nothing concrete, more of a feeling. Plus Bontempelli's been seen at the club apparently.

Don't think Landsberger is that reliable this far out from the draft anyway. From memory he was talking us up getting Menzel (along with O'Rourke) this time last year I'm pretty sure.

Yep, a smart player with great kicking efficiency, great footy smarts and instincts, has planty of time with the ball etc etc. I just described Bontempelli. See what I did there? ;)

You're ignoring Billings flaws. Endurance nowhere near the required level, poor performances all of this year, doesn't have any proven midfield time, seem's like he's not quite there with interviews etc..

What I'm saying is that every single prospect in this draft has question marks on their heads, same as most drafts.

All I'm trying to illistrate is that I'd be happy with pretty much any of the top 5, including Bontempelli. In the end, it comes down to the clubs decision and who they believe will transition into senior football and perform. I'd back them in whoever they choose. Be that Billings, Aish, Bontempelli, Kelly, Scharenburg etc.

Point was simply that Bontempelli would definately be in the frame at our selection. We've been said to be interested in Billings, Aish and Bontempelli so I guess we'll see what happens.

I purposefully ignored Billings flaws, just like you did with Bontempelli. If we chose him then i'd trust the recruiters, but I'd have a few ahead of him, including Billings, KK, Aish, Scharenberg, Taylor, Lennon, Kelly, just to name a few.

All those names I listed have stood up in big games. Bontempelli is the one who has not. He disappeared, got a bit fumbly, and that was because of the pressure. Whether that be actual pressure, perceived pressure, mental pressure, he massively lowered himself in my eyes during those games. Of course this is all opinion, but I think Bontempelli will struggle big time with the transition to AFL level, and I think his star qualities are being extremely over-exaggerated. I'm willing to bet that he won't be in the top 15 of this draft at the end of his career.

Also as a side note, what does him not being quite there with interviews mean? Lake was probably a lot worse, he turned out ok didn't he? It means jack shit really, unless that translates over to footballing ability. And Billings has a great footballing brain.

15 is probably pushing it a bit in this draft, if it is as shallow as what everyone is saying.

Billings disappears in games as well, but steps up when his team needs him suddenly

But only can make assessments based on what I have seen, for all everyone knows on here
their weaknesses might be over-exaggerated & not just their strengths :)

Comparing him to Billings, yes Billings has gone missing in some games. But he's also stood up massively in some games, and taken them by the scruff of his neck. In literally every big game that I've seen or heard Bontempelli play in, he's disappeared. Every single one. I'm just basing it on what I've seen, but I don't see him taking that necessary next step up to AFL level.

Wow. Hahaha, big call. We'll see if his star qualities are over exaggerated when he's taken in the top 10 in 20 days time.

As for the interview discussion, read the rest of the posts.

I would just be extremely frustrated if we drafted Billings & called him a FWD/MID because imo, he has done absolute sweet f.a in the midfield
But Bontempelli disappearing during the big games is bit of an exaggeration because he goes quiet in the small ones to, he just seems to impact more when his team has momentum or are winning, its kind of strange tbh.

It is a big call and it's an unpopular opinion. I'm not doubting his talent though, that's obvious to anyone. I don't think he'll be able to handle the pressure of AFL. But we won't know until he gets delisted or retires, and by then everybody will have forgotten this call :p

And I see what you mean about the interview. Just means that he'll probably be kept out of the spotlight as much as possible, and he'll get coaching with his communication skills and media presence. Nothing that clubs would be overly worried about.

I can see Billings as a Gia type player. We've already got a million of those though, but Billings will be a good player IMO. If, and it's a big if because like you said he really hasn't done anything in the midfield, he does ever become a full time midfielder he could be one of the best from this draft.

Well I used the big games really to hammer a point home :p But in all the big games, plus a few small games, he's gone missing. You probably put it best, he's at his best when his team is on a roll. There are a few players in the AFL like that, none of them are stars though. I really don't know what it is about it, he just gets fumbly and is unsure, it's obviously a mental thing and that's a hard thing to change about a player.

His height probably
Tall players seem to be real awkward like that

I am not defending Bontempelli because I want him at our pick anyway, I would rather Aish/Kelly/KK/Taylor/Scharenberg/Lennon/Billings at our pick :p

Lennon is the draftee in focus today on AFL.com. Didn't realize he was almost 190cm. Was a good read as well.

Taylor is the draftee in focus today on AFL.com. Didn't realize he was that tall. Was a good read as well.
Do you mean Lennon? Because it's Lennon for me. Taylor is only 174cm :p

Yeah i must say Bontempelli is a sexy choice because of the upset but he playing well in the championships is a must. He could be like a Kouta but he could be like Sam Gilbert

Think he's Essendon's at pick 26 to be honest.

Makes sense to me. He's some talent. Essendon will fancy they can turn his person/hide any flaws.

Nick Favretto has anyone seen much of him? Impressive write up and highlights footage, could see him been used a HBF. Has a good burst of speed, played in the SANFL so has played against the bigger bodies, has a booming kick. Plays for West Adelaide.

Think he could be an option somewhere late in the draft or something else

Interesting reading the Callum Twomey chat. Said Nick Robertson was an outside chance (I assume of being drafted). Also said Sicily was a chance, he didn't seem real confident he would go. I'd be really happy with those guys late in the draft.

For the bulldogs he said KK, Scharenberg, Bontempelli, Aish were all in contention. Assuming GWS take Kelly and Saints take Billings.

I still haven't heard from my source if we've had big interest in Billings yet which is strange.

How

How much would you like to bet.

Do you think Dogs draft could go . . .
4: J. Aish
42: B. Brown/T. Nankervis
60: N. Bourke
96: M. Gibbons
116: Rookie upgrade(B. Goodes)
Is this possible and would it be a good draft for us?
