I reckon Dalrymple & BMac would be all over Scharenberg where as JMac might be leaning toward Aish.
As for who we get, I also reckon it'll be the Burger.

Dunno. But Dalrymple would have final say (he is the Head recruiting manager) while in consultation with Macca.
Jmac is the List manager so if it came down to drawing straws Dal would surely pull the trigger.

Damn hunter is a talent. Such a steal that late in the draft. The fact that he's even in the same conversation as a top 3/4 pick says a lot.

Where do we think hunter would go if the 2013 draft was re-done tomorrow? Top 20???

Hunter went under the radar quite a bit last year. I think a lot of people forget how much he dominated in the TAC cup. KP was one of the few people to rate him really high. When he did his power rankings for last year, he had Hunter in the top 15.

Who actually has the final say on who we pick? I read somewhere on here, that someone said B-Mac wanted someone else last year, but got overruled by Dalrymple. And in another draft Dalrymple wanted someone else, but B-Mac overruled him for Clay Smith. Not that I believe these things anyways, as how do people even know this for sure unless there.

Point being, it gives a mixed message on who actually has the power. I'm curious to whether we vote on as a group on the first pick (seeing it's predictable who will be around), with B-Mac having the final say on tied or close votes. Whether B-Mac makes his own call entirely. Or of we just leave it to J-Mac and the recruiting team only?

My prediction for top 10

Boyd
Kelly
Billings
Aish
Kolodashnij (or however it's spelt)
Scharenberg
Lennon (McCarthy if Lions fill a need)
McDonald (F/S)
Freeman
Bontompelli

Lennon has slided a bit but has the quality, be surprised if he ends up out of the top 10. If Aish slides past us, Collingwood will get him and that would make the footy world quite mad. I thought St Kilda would want Aish after losing Dal Santo, but I've gone with the flow as most people think Billings will end up there

We probably helped in that regard - he was spending 2012 working on his deficiencies (defensive game and running) rather than focussing on his attributes which quite a few draftable youngsters seem to focus on.

F/S academy strikes again

Aish is perfect for us. We have all been saying how much we need a classy outside mid, and he fits the bill. Plus I think he will have good inside skills too.
Precision kicking and will be perfect getting fed the footy from the contest by Libba, Wallis, Stevens, Smith and co. I hope we get him.

Reason why i'm leaning towards Aish is because he has won two SAFL flags before he was 18 years old
playing in big games and being a big player is what we need.

Surely we take Aish if available..

Aish > Billings >>>>>>>> Bont > Scharenberg for me personally, really, really hoping we get one of Aish/Billings would be dissapointed if we took Scharenberg tbh.

I don't buy this as a deciding factor when drafting a kid. If the VFL had the same setup as the SANFL and WAFL with their colts then half the kids in the TAC Cup would be playing VFL at the same age. That includes pretty much every kid in contention for our first pick.

Who is to say that playing senior state league football is better than playing against the best under 18's in Victoria?

Tbh I'd prefer Kolodjashnij or Billings over Aish, and neither of them have a SANFL premiership medallion between them.

Imagine Libba/Aish/Macrae/Wallis headed by Griffen with Stringer/Dahlhaus/Smith all rotating could possibly be one of the top midfields in 2 years time. Next year is ment to be a superdraft/KPP draft as well.. please please pick Aish! (or billings)

FWIW my top 3 for us
1. Boyd (yeah, not going to happen)
2. Billings (will probably go #3 to St.Kilda)
3. Aish (should be there if Kelly goes #2 to GWS)

I dont rate Kelly like most, while i rate Bilings higher than Aish (although splitting hairs and my opinion changes almost daily) I'd still prefer Aish on our list.

Could Aish play across the HBF or would his talents be wasted there?

What sort of players should we be looking at recruiting next year if were to draft like Dannnnnnnnnn 's phantom picks?

Any DFA's next year that would also help fill a need that we should be targeting?
As excited as I am about 2014, even more excited about our 2015 season :p

Will likely play a bit at half back early on but I'd much rather him on a wing. Same as Kolodjashnij, except I'd play him there from the beginning as I don't like him off half back.

Next year we either look at a KPP or Clem Smith if he's at our pick (will be top five imo but anything can change).

Some of next year's FAs:
Brisbane Lions
Ash McGrath
Carlton
Bryce Gibbs, Kade Simpson, Jarrad Waite, Andrew Walker
Collingwood
Harry O'Brien, Ben Reid, Dane Swan
Essendon
Heath Hocking, Leroy Jetta
Fremantle
Garrick Ibbotson, David Mundy, Luke McPharlin, Matthew Pavlich, Aaron Sandilands
Geelong
Steve Johnson
Hawthorn
Luke Hodge, Sam Mitchell
Melbourne
James Frawley
North Melbourne
Todd Goldstein, Lachie Hansen, Lindsay Thomas
Port Adelaide
Travis Boak
St Kilda
Sam Fisher, James Gwilt, Leigh Montagna, Nick Riewoldt
Sydney Swans
Adam Goodes, Ryan O'Keefe, Nick Malceski, Ted Richards
West Coast
Shannon Hurn, Daniel Kerr, Matt Priddis
Western Bulldogs
Matthew Boyd, Shaun Higgins, Will Minson, Robert Murphy, Tom Williams
Reid and Hurn are the two I'd be looking the closest at.

Can we start a "Get Ben Reid to the Dogs in 2014" thread? The Patton one was fun :p

I'd love a few of them. Reid, Hurn, Mundy, Boak, Hodge, Mitchell, Johnson, Simpson, Walker.

Yeah some nice FAs next year, hopefully we can get a deal done with one; wonder if there is any interest in Higgins with his injury history from other clubs.

A Walker/Hurn would be good off the HBF and allow a KK/Aish to roam along the wing (thats if we land them)

J. Lever is one that I've liked the look of so far for next year, along with Clem Smith & McCartin; Goddard to me seems a better defender then forward still, more natural there

Based on output or potential? If i was redoing the draft tomorrow and saw all of 2013 I'd still take guys like Stringer/O’Rourke ahead of him even though he outperformed them, i think O'Rourke only played like 2 games?

Not including Mini draft/zoning etc
Id have Whitfield/O’Rourke/Stringer/Macrae/Toumpas/Wines/Mayes/Vlastuin/Daniher/Grundy/Viney ahead of him (probably missed a couple) so id put him at around 12-15. If you include O'meara and Crouch then push him out to 14-17. Still an amazing get for a third rounder.. could jump into the top 10 at the end of 2014 easily.

If we pick Jack Billings the forward I can accept it, it we pick Jack Billings the midfielder I'll be pissed.

All the talk about pick 4 is really starting to drain me, tbh.

Anyone have any thoughts about pick 42?

Depending on what we do with pick 4, I'd be hoping someone like Isaiah Miller hangs around long enough for us to grab him. I like the idea of adding some height/speed/ball use etc.

There's also another kid, Brenden Abbott, who has a pretty impressive highlights reel (all 3 mins of it). Didn't see him at the Champs as he only played one game. His fitness looks terrible but he looks a beast of an athlete which is intriguing. Anyone know anything further about him?

Haha, I'm a bit over it too.

The thing with pick 42 is that it's incredibly difficult to pick who's going to be there, let alone who you'd prefer at that pick. I'd really love for us to take the (yes, I acknowledge it's big) risk on Conlon there but I don't expect anybody to agree with that. Miller is one I'd be ecstatic to get there. Templeton if he falls (doubt it), Spina, Harvey, Kolodjashnij, Vandeleur are some others I'd consider there. There are so many relatively even players around that point that may be there but it's hard to know.

Isn't that the true identity of the Postcard Bandit? :P I've never heard of Abbott to be completely honest. Might be one of our 'out of nowhere' picks.

Pretty much how i see it panning out, although id take Bontompelli ahead of Lennon/Freeman.(although im worried we will take Scharenberg), Ill neck myself if Collingwood get Aish and Bontompelli...reckon they will both be guns

Why do you think we should be drafting a key forward/ruck? For mine, I think the ones on our list need another year before we start to know if they are going to be long term players for us, especially if we are going to start making speculative draft selections. It would've been really handy to hang on to pick 26 in this case, but what can you do?

Yeah lol, I google'd him a little while ago, too. Have a look at him on the AFL site, he comes under small/medium defenders.

I'd like us to grab James Tsitas but i doubt we will as we have to many players similar to him, reckon he could develop into something special though.

SCpaige just released her final phantom draft, has us taking Harvey at 42 and it says "the bulldogs are confident they can get Harvey here". Would be very happy with that, could be that traditional FF we are looking for. I want Wasley-Black at 60. Aish, Conlon/Harvey, Wasley-Black would be perfect.

I see Conlon as a key forward who can pinch hit in the ruck if necessary; if he can get over his injury worries he could be an outstanding key forward. The fact that he can ruck (he's not an amazing ruck man, but he can do it) just adds to what he has, for mine. I can totally understand where you're coming from with our other guys, but apart from Campbell and Cordy who do we really have? Post-Minson I see Campbell becoming the number 1 ruckman; his forward work coming on this year was just a bonus. Conlon is a long term prospect and I doubt picking him up will hurt the development of our other guys. I also think that a young, legitimate key forward is one of only a few things that our core is missing, and if we can get that we're a real threat in the future. If we leave drafting one too late, they're not going to peak with our midfield and it's going to hurt our chances. This year if we're presented with an opportunity to take a key forward who is top five on talent at 42 - or even 60 - I just feel that we should take him, high risk or not. 42 comes at a range where I feel most picks will be busts this year; if Conlon makes it he'll be a steal, and if he doesn't nobody will really bat an eyelid as he'll just be another failed pick around that mark in a shallow draft.

Just had a look. Looks seriously explosive. That ball drop looks a little out of whack but it's nothing John Butcher-like; fixable. Wonder what it is that got him so few games. Didn't play Foxtel Cup either, as I watched those matches. Odd. Might do a little digging and see if anybody from WA knows more than we do.

Pretty sure Macca said the other day that 60 will likely be used to upgrade Goodes. We're going with 5 rookies again I believe.
