I said Boyd first, that doesn't seem to have worked out, has it?!
But I said Billings after Boyd. So the prophecy may come true.

Bontempelli was about mid year I said I quite liked him :p
Still, that'd be Stringer and Bontempelli in two years. Say you like Aish FFS!

Paige Cardona's Final Mock Draft says we will take James Aish at 4, Mitch Harvey at 42 and Darcy Hourigan at 60

I like it!

Clem Smith might go real high next year from all the talk I've heard about him
Exciting player to watch

A lot of players that could fill a need in the team in next years draft whilst also been best available
J. Lever, a third tall defender that can lock-down & provide solid rebounds from defense
McCartin, a beast full forward who has an accurate kick and composure of a player beyond his years in the forward line

Heard good things about Peter Wright & Liam Duggan; but yet to see them play

So it seems like Aish or Bontempelli according to Emma Quayle and Brett Anderson. Really hoping for Aish, just not sold on Bontempelli. He reminds me a lot of Jarred Brennan from what I've seen, awesome in flashes but goes missing a lot. Would also love Mitch Harvey at 42, looks a real talent.

Correct me if I'm wrong but 60 will be used to upgrade Goodes. I'm under the impression 4 & 42 is all we will have

Wright will go number 1 imo, with McCartin likely slipping down the order a little bit from my perspective. Goddard will move up.

We're a real chance at Clem Smith from my perspective. He'll go at a pretty high pick at this point but there's something there that just screams a 5-10 pick for me, to be honest. I think with so many highly rated talls he's likely to slip a little.

The 2013 draft hasn't even happened yet, focus on that :p Why do you think McCartin will slip? I've hardly seen any vision of any of the draftees for next year, just what I've heard, so don't have much of an idea on them.

Yeah, he's a mammoth. I've only seen bits and pieces of him but from what I've seen, if he can build on it, nobody's going to come close to touching him.

I'm bored of the 2013 draft already, haha.

I'm not exactly sure to be honest. I know that's a shit answer but so far out from the draft you're really only working off of first impressions, central traits and vibes...it's just the vibe of the thing, you know?

In all seriousness I just feel as though he's going to be taken around the pick 5 mark. He looks like somebody that may have gotten to a higher base more quickly than others, and with some KPPs they can kinda stagnate and take a bit longer to come on after that. I think he'll be a gun, not doubting that, he just feels like a guy that might be overtaken by the time the draft comes.

Again, it's hardly a solid ground to go off of and is just speculation, but that's the impression I got when watching him this year.

I am no fan of Aish, but even I would be disappointed if we took bontempelli ahead of Aish.

Really do not understand why the Berger is sliding - 2 time all Australia, rated 3 by champion data, highest rated player in winning SA team, physically strongest and best mark in the draft.

If we go for best available then Logic says it has to be one of Berger or billings with Aish as the 3rd option.
KK next and a few others before you get to bontempelli.

You seem to be forgetting one Tom Boyd ;)

I hope you're right Dan regarding McCartin being around the pick 5 mark. I was the most impressed by him out of all the 2014 hopefuls.
He played some ridiculous games this year. So strong through the body and his hands are just insanely good for a kid a year below draft age. Also working in our favour is that there's potentially two father/sons going below us (Stretch -> Melbourne, Waterman -> West Coast) which would give us a better shot at him. His set shot isn't anywhere near the standard I'd want it to be by next year, so perhaps that's why I get the 'he might slip' vibe.

The way I see it though, a year out and I'm more excited about the top 20-30 than I am about this year's top 20-30. That says a lot about both this year and next year's draft. Super excited.

The best thing about next years draft is almost of the top ten would fill a need for us, kind of like this year. Even somone like a Duggan would be great.

I think the diabetes will definitely be a factor too. Not a huge one, but enough.
He seems to be handling it very well at the moment but the AFL is a different ball game.

For instance - last quarter of a gf you've activated the sub, had a couple of unlucky injuries & now your full forward is running off the ground because he needs insulin... it's a worst case scenario but it would have to be a consideration.

He's also one of the slightly shorter of that kpp crop next year. Not that that would be a major factor either.

Brett Anderson and Nigel Karmany gave their phantom draft on SEN last night - I listened to the first 7 picks before I got out of the car!

1. GWS - Tom Boyd
2. GWS - Josh Kelly
3. St Kilda - Jack Billings
4. WB - Marcus Bontempelli
5. GC - Kade Kolodjashnij
6. Collingwood - Matt Scharenburg
7. Brisbane - Clay McCartney

Both men had the same picks, and both were certain about the first 3.

With our pick, they said it will basically shape the draft. Not 100% on Bontempelli, thought it was a toss-up between him, Aish, and Scharenburg.

I think the thing to remember with Bontempelli is that he is a really young player in his draft class (similar to our Lachlan Hunter last year).

Those players generally have a very high ceiling.

I still want Aish though!!

total football I've got a few people looking into Abbott. One guy thinks there's a possibility he's being hidden. I'll let you know if I find anything out.
I actually asked Chris about Abbot a few days back, didn't seem to know much but suggested he may have discipline issues after heading home to Albany mid champs.
Could be one of these guys that gets drafted a couple of years down the track.

Like the look of him though, reminds me of Goodes or even Byron Pickett with that big frame.
