Brett Anderson and Nigel Karmany gave their phantom draft on SEN last night - I listened to the first 7 picks before I got out of the car!

1. GWS - Tom Boyd
2. GWS - Josh Kelly
3. St Kilda - Jack Billings
4. WB - Marcus Bontempelli
5. GC - Kade Kolodjashnij
6. Collingwood - Matt Scharenburg
7. Brisbane - Clay McCartney

Both men had the same picks, and both were certain about the first 3.

With our pick, they said it will basically shape the draft. Not 100% on Bontempelli, thought it was a toss-up between him, Aish, and Scharenburg.

I think the thing to remember with Bontempelli is that he is a really young player in his draft class (similar to our Lachlan Hunter last year).

Those players generally have a very high ceiling.

I still want Aish though!!
Aish not in the top 8 selections?? Can't see it.

Confident we take him at 4.

I don't buy into the whole 'Bontempelli is really young' thing. Aish is just as young. Just two weeks older than Bontempelli.

Jeez he has a massive hard on for Billings.

I'm not against any players we're linked with besides Bontempelli. If we wanted him we should of traded down (e.g Melbourne with pick 9).

Still dead keen on Scharenberg and Aish.

But are we sure collingwood wouldnt have picked him with pick 6?

Brett Anderson reckons there's a lot going on today so keep an eye out for his mock

Ugh, the Bontempelli talk is going to kill me.

I actually asked Chris about Abbot a few days back, didn't seem to know much but suggested he may have discipline issues after heading home to Albany mid champs.
Could be one of these guys that gets drafted a couple of years down the track.

Like the look of him though, reminds me of Goodes or even Byron Pickett with that big frame.
I've got a few guys in WA looking into him, since he'd be easy to hide from Vic clubs over there but not from WA people. Highlights videos are deceptive, but that one is just far too explosive for him to not even be in draft calculations. Something's up imo and I'm interested to find out what.

That's a risk you've got to take.

If we don't take Bontempelli I think he will slide to Carltons pick. Collingwood will grab Scharenberg and Salem IMO.

Only 175cm though, and I reckon we'll be going tall with our second pick, unless someone like Templeton slips through. There are better picks for us at 42.

Pegged as a small forward you would think. Plays with a bit of manic intensity like Dal, but doesn't have the jack-in-the-box agility. Looks to have a harder-straight through approach. His style looks like he could really benefit from another 10 kilos.

Going to be some very upset people on this board if we pick Bontempelli, will be even worse if he has a nothing year (which is kinda expected) but give it a few years and I doubt many here will be disappointed, in a perfect world we'd be taking him a bit lower than 4 but if we feel he will be the best player out of those available then it doesn't really matter. Projects really well as an inside/outside mid with a good, long kick who can take a great grab through the middle.

Certainly seems to play the way B-Mac likes - can win his own ball, seems a decent user on the outside.

It's not the fact that we will be getting Bontempelli, it's the fact that we will be passing on Aish (most likely) for him.

Twomey mentioned we are interested in Darcy Lang

The midfielder's season ended in agony, when he broke his fibula and dislocated his ankle in the final game of Vic Country's under-18 championships. To then he had shown what he has got as a running, versatile onballer with a bit of zip. Lang has some dash and likes to run and carry the ball up the ground.
Where does he go? He's an option for Essendon with its first pick. If not, the Bulldogs a bit later back will take a look.

Just entered the bigfooty draft comp, this is what I currently have. Will change it though.

My big POD from everyone else's picks that I saw was almost everyone had Sheed to the eagles, I think Brisbane will grab him.

Now I have to change it :p.

The rest, how do you think it looks?

Not bad at all. I'm surprised you have Giles so far up there, I don't think I've ever seen him that high and to Sydney. Sydney's recruiter mentioned they place a high emphasis on the defensive game which Giles really needs to work on. Would be extremely surprised if they went with him.

I reckon Aish is the way to go too.

From my understanding, the concerns with him are how he played at the Champs this year. Didn't really dominate or get his name up in lights. Has supposedly kept the rage going with his SANFL performances though.

The question then becomes what is more impressive - doing well against grown men in a solid second-tier competition, or doing well against the elite of your age group.

The SANFL performances are more telling I reckon.

Anyway, on Bontempelli, he has been a big improver this year, akin to Jack Macrae last year. Wouldn't be the worst pick, but I just don't see why we should reach for someone at pick 4, it's not like we a super keen on a KPF or something like that...

Yeah pretty fair call. He's supposedly very good in clearance situations, apparently a very good mark and he's 194cm make no mistake so you can't be too upset with a prospect like that. I'd get on board after the fact but on what i've seen i'd make a different call.
