Not really understanding all the talk re Tutt being a supposed failed draft pick. Macca was quoted saying some extremely positive things about him recently and see's massive potential in him still.

I'd hold off on any Tutt judgements until next year.

They really aren't that bad, sure it looks bad but more often than not they hit their targets, their other positives FAR outweigh their negatives IMO.

Cool at present I like them but don't see the kicking as much better than ordinary. Talia knows his kicking is poor and avoids it, IIRC Talia's poor kicking was pivotal in us losing a game last year. And Smith's kicking well, sorry but it is that bad (unless its for goal kind of like Shane Tuck).

And yes I do have Boyd PTSD, everyone loved him and was prepared to overlook his kicking flaws. I still can't get over the number of times in pivotal moments in key games where he turned the ball over. And yes the good outweighed the bad with Boyd too (like Smith and Talia). Thing is the game has changed and punishes poor use even more than ever (more so than from a few years ago when Boyd made AA)

Oh and that was a sidetrack. I just hope we pick best ball using and fastest player in the draft (assuming all other things are close enough to equal).

I don't really care about height (we have Griffen, Stringer and Macrae who are all tall enough).

I do care about speed and ball use which are critical and is a little lacking in our list.

Is that player Aish, Billings or Bontempelli? I don't know, I just hope we prioritise ball use, speed and ball getting in that order.

We have more potential later round prospects news apparently we are really keen to land Mitch Harvey and Darcy Lang

I don't mind this. Harvey I like better then Hourigan and Lang looked good in the champs. Think Lang's kicking is a bit better then what was shown in the highlights video. Still would prefer someone with an elite kick like Miller.

After meeting Macca at a work function, I've got a hunch that you guys will pick Bontempelli.

When I met Brendon McCartney at a work function earlier on this year (when he told me back then that Thomas was on his way to Carlton), he ran through the bulldogs recruiting model and what they looked for/what he was trying to achieve with his list management.

He said that during his time at Geelong it was drummed into the coaching staff that the bigger bodies stand up in September (he used Hawthorn and Sydney as examples - given the 2012 Grand Final), even though he's been accused of stocking up on similar type players (Koby Stevens, Libba, Wallace, Clay Smith, Hrovat, Lower, Boyd, Cross etc) he said that the players would learn to be adaptable with positions around the ground - and that midfield domination is what controls (and ultimately wins) games of football, so he was adding to that the best way possible by bringing in taller/bigger/strong bodies.

I can see Bontempelli appealing to him given his size, his age (given he is still growing into his body) and the fact that he is on an upward curve when it comes to his inside clearance work game. Bontempelli's size (194 cms) and the fact that he already has the ability to play as a forward/defender at TAC level runs hand in hand with Macca's "adaptability" model already.

Thanks for sharing your observations and opinion C4. You've been right on the money on several occasions, so your opinion on here is valued. :thumbsu: Cheers.

All these meetings with Macca, do you work for a certain Mexican food supplier? :D

Dude I love your optimism but you really need to include all the facts if you want to make an argument not just the one's that suit. So you really can't look away from the Howard Tutt draft no matter how much no one wants to look, its still there.

You may think this is glass empty, but I have minimal to zero faith in Dalrymple, he appears to reach with picks and gamble too much for my liking, so no I don't see the upward trajectory. And Howard and Tutt continue to resonate. Maybe, just maybe the draft of 2012 will be as good as many think but the jury is out still.

Yikes, cut the guy some slack. You talk about over-exuberant optimism, but here you are giving us all a lesson in unfettered pessimism.

Wait, how can 2010 be considered 'average' and 2011 'below average'?!

Libba, Wallis, Dahlhaus, JJ, Talia, Smith, Dickson all came from these two drafts and are all best 22 players already.

We can't draft a Chris Judd or Matthew Pavlich at every pick.

Ahhh you got it in one!! .... oh wait, you said "food" supply :D

In all seriousness, I work for another major sponsor of the Bulldogs.

So either we can't see Scharneberg becoming a mid, or he dropped his dacks and took a dump on the interview table?
If he did that I'm very impressed, shows he doesn't lack confidence, another tick for Scharenberg.

Oh well I won't bother thanking you for the awesome Spicey Smokey BBQ corn chips. :p

No wonder St Kilda are interested in him

I would prefer Aish if available at pick 4 as I think he will give our midfield that bit of extra polish that we need to add to complement Griffen & Cooney. We already have plenty of big strong inside mids & adding another like Bontempelli would be overload imo.

However, as the draft gets closer, the mail seems to be that Bontempelli will be our man & he does fit the mould that McCartney seems to favour. In regards to pick 42 someone like Hourigan or Harvey would be good as they are both capable Key Position Forwards with good goal kicking skills. There are doubts about their body shapes & pace but with full time coaching at their disposal, I'm sure this would be improved on very quickly. I doubt we will use pick 60 & instead will take an extra rookie.

Bonts isnt a big (he is tall), strong inside mid. Have you seen him? he is quite light on. The inside game is something he needs to work on but it is coming along nicely
