Seems Mcarthy has been invited to Draft on gold Coast and could be going to Brisbane at 7

All these talls (Scharenberg, Kolodjashnij, Bomettelli and McCarthy, going early is likely to push a really good mid to us - Aish, Billings, Lennon, sheed, Salem,Freeman are getting pushed down the order and most should be available to us - Aish may go to Collingwood at 10????

Boyd and Kelly seem to be locked in to GWS but then could go - Kolodjashnij, Bontemplli, Scharenberg, Billings/Aish/Lennon, McCarthy, Mcdonald, Freeman, Billings/Aish/Lennon then us

11 - really want Sheed now. Be happy with Acres, but think Sheed will be a quality pure mid. A lot of talk of wanting versatility, but having a player who is an on-baller more than anything is really what we need.

31 - Cripps if he's available would be awesome, but don't think he will be. Think we may pick up someone from Vic or SA here, or perhaps a tall, our recruiters will often surprise us. One of 31 or 43 will have to be a mid or mid/fwd though.

43 - I love the sound of Cameron, he's exactly what we need. But hard to say where he goes as I'm no draft expert, he may last to the rookie draft. I wouldn't be surprised if we grabbed someone like Cain, but not sure how highly he would be rated.

Using our 6 total picks, it would have to be something like this:

2-4 mids
0-1 medium defender
0-1 mid/def
0-1 med forward
0-1 mid/fwd
1 small fwd
0-1 KPD
0-1 ruck

I'd like 3 mids, a small forward, a KPD and a HFFer.

Would like to delist someone and use pick 49 tbh, pick still has some degree of value IMO. Assuming we do, or downgrade newman to the rookie list (personally would like to see him stay on the main list, surely wce have a fair idea of his future) then I think we should consider the following guys at our picks;

11. Dom Sheed, Blake Acres, Ben Lennon, Nathan Freeman
31. Patrick Cripps, Nick Robertson, Nick Bourke, Jarman Impey
43. Darcy Lang, Darcy Cameron, Alex Spina, James Sicily
49. Dwayne Wilson, Jarred Jansen, Liam Jacka, Mitch Honeychurch

Obviously if a player slides (i.e Robertson to pick 43) even better.

Players I'd be looking at in the RD:
Nathan Drummond, Charlie Cameron, Brenden Abbott, Tom Shanahan, Rowan Powell, Matthew Sulley, Karl Amon, Adrian Franetic, Tom Valdeleur, Jake Kolodjashnij, Riley Knight and Ben Sokol.

About a week to go now and I'm most looking forward to the draft, even if the Ashes start on the same day.

PICK 11: I want a mid here and preferably best available which i think is Nathan Freeman. If not than one of Marcus Bontempelli, Dom Sheed, Blake Acres or Christian Salem.

PICK 31: I'd love James Sicily here. If not one of of James Tsitas, Riley Knight/ Nathan Bourke, Jarad Jansen, Dayle Garlett or Nick Robertson.

PICK 43 and PICK 49: Would love to get a mature ager with one of these picks. Either Chris Cain or Kane Lambert at 43 and Charlie Cameron/ Dwayne Wilson at 49

It's a frought with danger picking potentially 4 interstaters but the upside of picking Freeman, Sicily and Cain/ Lambert in particular is huge

PALYERS I'D LOOK AT IN ROOKIE DRAFT

DEFENDERS: Brenden Abbott, Nathan Drummond**
TALL DEFENDERS: Rowen Powell, Kory Beard, James Toohey
MIDFIELDERS: Campbell Combe, Jake Gresier, Ben Cavarra
FORWARDS: Ian Richardson, Aaron Christensen**, Willy Rioli

Drummond and Christensen would be great to get in the rookie but they may go late in the national instead. Also depends on what happens with Murray Newman. As long as he is still available to play I think he'll be kept on the senior list, Simpson seems keen to start with a clean slate there

Do you mean Aaron Christensen the shorty or the ginger? (You probably mean shorty being classed as a forward)

The ginger looks a likely type for mine...A little Embleyesque.
Brenden Abbott is very raw but I really like his type...Gets my knickers a little wet o_O

Ben Cavarra was one that I got very close to drafting...The only thing that worries me is his size otherwise he has the goods.
I can't help but think of a little West Perth player that almost could.

I'm probably the only one but I'd have Joel Tippett in my list of tall defenders too.
A far, far better player than in 2011.

Aaron the brother of current cat Allen :thumbsu:

Abbott is raw but it's worth throwing a rookie list spot at him and see how he goes. He's alot like Hurn off the HB line

Cavarra is a huge talent and a joint Morrish Medalist in 2013 but the concern over him is his height. Absolute clearance specialst

Tippett I definately considered as a rookie but I think he'll get selected in the National Draft. Possibly ending up with big bro in Sydney

Pick 11 Sheed is a no brainer pure mid can play inside and out . Simpson will tidy his disposal and turn him into a Sam Mitchell type mid

Pick 31 Marsh . Seen a lot of mock drafts where Marsh is still around at 31 . He is lightening fast but undersized as a KPF but perfect as a HFF or winger were he played as a junior . This is the type of risk/reward player we need . Skirting packs bursting away using his lightning pace to burn off opponents . Then if he can bulk up played as big bodied inside mid with pace

Pick 43 Robertson . HBF to replace waters when his body fails him. Roberson has had some shoulder injuries from backing into packs . Tough , very good 1on1 , elite endurance , line breaking runs , can rotate through midfield with ease .

Pick 49 Wilson . Small quick outside mid with very polished skills can go Fwd and kick a goal
Pick 49 Shanahan great mid at colts level this year may need time to develop his body in wafl . Has very good skills . Maybe a rookie selection

This is basically exactly what I am hoping for. I agree on marsh, i think it's worth taking the risk with him if we play it safe in round 1 and go for sheed.

I was under the impression Sheed was one-sided? Will need to work on his right to be a Mitchell type.

I don't think he is as one sided as gaff but all afl recruits should be working on there non preferred ! I was using Mitchell as and example for size pace and being a left footer . If sheed can get half as good as Mitchell on his right I would be happy ! Unless we don't draft him then I hope he is a one footed slow hack

He certainly seems less one sided than most left footers. His highlight's package actually includes a reasonable right footed bomb into the forward line.

I'm skeptical for now as dual-sided left footers are rare.

11. Sheed - Perhaps a safe pick but is the best pure midfielder at this selection, aside from a potential slider plenty of other would be ok at this pick like Acres, Salem and Lennon

31. Marsh - is a real risk reward selection so could likely slide to here, Garlett would be tempting but can't see the club picking him up. Doubt Cripps will last till this selection either. Kennedy Harris could be an interesting selection if we want to take a punt on a small forward

43. Hewett - Would be a slider here and would be in contention at 31 as well. Robertson, Miller and Tsitas would be OK as well

49 Giles/McStay - Another development tall defender would be nice

I am getting a little bemused by the term 'pure' midfielder. What does it even mean? And anyway, wouldn't Simpson's quest for versatility meant that being a 'pure' midfielder isn't as important as people are making it out to be?

People forget that our midfield doesn't struggle to win ball; it struggles to adapt to other team's ascendence, and doesn't spread/move forward effectively. Part of fixing this is allowing more skilled players with greater versatility to go through the middle, even if they can't handle the rigours of a full midfield game.

I mean, a pure midfielder's all good and well, but you can only carry one of those players at most in your midfield (for the past 3-5 seasons, we've had two: Priddis and Kerr), and even then you're struggling (Notice the decreasing reliance on Sewell at Hawthorn and Ball at Collingwood for those exact reasons; Barlow and Watson at Fremantle and Essendon are among the exceptions despite being slow on the rebound because they can go forward and kick goals) .

Thankfully Sheed, despite being labelled as a 'pure' mid, has greater versatility than that which people are suggesting. Some of his best work is done behind the play.

Had a look at Karpany's highlights on the afl website and he looks good. Don't know much about him, but saw him pop up as one of our picks in a phantom draft. He's a smooth mover, but his disposal impressed me the most - he's a long kick and a good finisher.

Final go, going to keep it one name per line now.

11. Dominic Sheed.
31. Nick Robertson
43. James Battersby
49. Kane Lambert

Having a final guess.

11: Dom Sheed
31: Jonathon Marsh
43: Darcy Cameron
49: James Battersby/Chris Cain

Would ideally love Robertson at 31.
