Someone wrote on the main board that the AFL will release the decision whether they get the pick or not the same day as the Brownlow.... see where I'm getting at?

What are the odds Roos accepted the Melbourne coaching job as long as he got his 1.5 million a year and the priority pick this year..... the AFL is a ****ing joke.

Yeah I read about that too, bit like when they slipped in the interchange cap for next year during the Ess charge release. It'll most likely happen, but hopefully we don't lose Sheed

I would like to see the results from draft camp before I get excited about Sheed. He appears to be another inside player to me, one who can get the ball okay, but what we need in the midfield now is PACE and good skills to get the ball down to our forwards.

If he has the poise and decision making ability that i am hearing about, then i think that will more than over shadow his need for pace. Players like scotty pendlbury and simon black don't need pace to get the ball forward and often make better decisions than some of the competitions speedsters. I think we can look for players with some speed with our second and third round picks, but we should be drafting for footy smarts with our first pick.

Okay that makes sense, particularly with the retirements that we have had. I am just worried that the Eagles don't have any really quick players in the midfield; our midfielders are either inside ball getters or endurance runners. Another midfielder with pace would make it harder for opponents to shut us down there.

Yeah i see what you're saying. I think what we are really lacking in the middle at the moment though is a bit of composure, someone who can grab the ball and give it to someone who is in a better position to take advantage of their speed. A couple of guys in our team like wellingham, cripps and maybe shuey and masten have decent speed, and if in the right set up could break away from a stationary pack if they were already moving. The problem i see though is that our extractors don't look for these options and instead look to just kick long or handball to someone under more pressure. I think composure can make a midfield look way faster than it might otherwise be.

I think for this reason if we draft a quicker mid at number one, they won't really be used to their potential anyway unless they stand 30m infront of our pack and wait for the quick kick forward. I say draft for composure and wit and then get the pace later.

Melbourne applied for a priority pick yesterday, if they get it we'll have pick 7 instead.

Hope they get it. With their drafting record, they'd be taking a dud off the table so he doesn't enter our considerations.

Looks that way.

Similar body type to Pendlebury just a bit shorter

Probably means nothing but there's a resemblance there

In 2007 Melbourne drafted Cale Morton (#4) over Patrick Dangerfield (#10), Cyril Rioli (#12), Brad Ebert (#13), Harry Taylor (#17) and Alex Rance (#18).

In 2008 Melbourne drafted Sam Blease (#17, Priority Pick) over Luke Shuey (#18), David Zaharakis (#23), Jack Redden (#25), Dayne Beams (#29) and Dan Hannebery (#30).

In 2009 Melbourne drafted Tom Scully (#1, Priority Pick) and Jack Trengove (#2, Priority Pick) over Dustin Martin (#3) and Jordan Gysberts (#11) over Lewis Jetta (#14), Nat Fyfe (#20), Jake Carlisle (#24) and Luke Ball (#30).

They could have had Patrick Dangerfield, Dayne Beams and Dustin Martin or Cyril Rioli, Dan Hannebery and Nat Fyfe instead of Cale Morton, Sam Blease and Tom Scully - two of which aren't even there anymore and Blease seems like a dud. Only Melbourne could screw up a draft after tanking for picks.

I swear if Melbourne get that priority pick Demetriou needs to go.

Geez i'd give their recruiting staff one cross from that lot and it's Blease over Shuey and the others

Dangerfield, Rioli, Ebvert, Taylor and Rance were never going to go in the top 10. Morton was the obvious pick for them and most clubs if not all would have picked him there at pick 4. Hell we probably would have if things had not gone sour with Mitch

Same with 2009. The only player that was considered by all clubs to possibly go in the top 2 was Martin. Scully and Trangove were rated the top 2 by most if not all clubs.

It's the development of their players that has been a problem, nothing to do with their recruiting staff

My mail has it that WCE trade Pick 6 to Carlton for Yarran + pick 10.
WCE trade Pick 10 + Player or later pick upgrade (unknown) to Richmond for pick 14 & Conca
WCE believe pick 14 is still early enough to secure Dom Sheed.
2nd round Pick -Charlie Cameron - Lewis Jetta clone
Late round pick- Blaine Boekhurst- Speedy wingman

Those are the 3 players ive heard the recruiting staff are keen on.
Look bloody good to me

I really doubt Sheed (being a Larke medallist and all) will last until pick 6, let alone 14. Also a little skeptical on Yarran after reading previous posts.
Charlie Cameron is a damn good player, watched him up close against Vic Metro when they played at Subi. Would be nice if he's still around for our second round pick, however I'd have to prioritise Acres if he's still around.

Awesome theory though, I really hope WCE recruiting staff can work out a similar deal.

Seems generous of Richmond (assuming that second player is Rosa).

Basically we downgrade Pick 6 to Pick 14 and get Yarran and Conca... where do we sign???

Highly doubt it, but would love that to happen.
