Hughes will give his input on our selections this year. You'll just have to sit back and suck it up.

Or you could read knightmare and Emma Quayle to form an opinion.
when does emma quayle usually put out a list of potential draftees and her ratings, i.e. phantom drafts and such?

Good question with no bites yet.
Lambert is the obvious one but we've hardly got a mortgage on him. Reckon St.Kilda would be looking at him. 4th rounder or maybe even 3rd? .
Even though his performances in the VFL are good, that's very early for a 178cm 78kg 22 year old midfielder. Reckon he's more a rookie chance but I reckon he is a very strong chance for a rookie spot.

How many guys his size are regularly playing in AFL midfields and are they playing because they have an exceptional skill set or because they're good players in the next level down.

Along with the others that make up our recruiting department.
And Mick will certainly have some input.

Mitchell?

I've just posted elsewhere that I can't see us drafting Lambert with McLean, Ellard and Graham on our list.
Not sure why but I see St.Kilda reaching for him and given their history a third rounder wouldn't be out of the question although that does make for a pick #40 odd.
Maybe the next step down then to a #60?

Not too many hey and they do have to be stand out players, not saying that he can't make it and become that player like say Kieran Jack who did it from the rookie list but could you go into a centre bounce with Lambert and Murphy in the square together?

We need to get our 1st pick right this year. I am hardly an expert but after watching the championships and reading reviews, I have my favourites that may be available at out our first 2 picks.

Needs:
1.Inside/ Outside midfielder with speed and endurance that can run both ways and break the lines. With Judd reaching the end we don't have much pace in the midfield. We really only have Murphy long term.
2. Meduim/ Tall Forward. I have faith that long term Levi in a Forward/ Ruck role. But we really need to get Henderson back and find a replacement for Waite. I also think Watson should be trialled again as a key forward. I was inpressed with his short sting a few weeks ago.
3. Inside Mid - We have our weaknesses with our pure inside players (Carazzo, Mclean, Curnow, Graham, Cachia), but could probably beef up there a little easier later in the draft. We also have Robinson and Bell who can run through there.

With that in mind; (Will come back to other rounds)

1st Round - Lewis Taylor (Geelong Falcons). Only kick on him is his height. He has the burst of speed and endurance that would complement our midfield. Neat disposal.

Other considerations: Ben Lennon, has speed and can break lines. Could develop as a midfielder and play as a medium forward. Would be my first choice, I just don't see him slipping to our pick. Fingers crossed. Marcus Bontempelli would be my next option, although again I think he could be gone (unless we have Pick 9). Tall speedy midfielder who can also play as a medium forward. He is raw and has enormous upside.

2nd Round - Jonathon Marsh, very quick leading forward who has played midfield. Still developing as a player but physically strong enough to play AFL in the short term. Could become a key forward or a very handy 2nd tall option not unlike Jack Darling.

Other Considerations: Really excited about our 2nd round picks. Lots of good options. If we manage to trade another pick into the 2nd round we could really load up. I really like the looks of Patrick Cripps, tall, strong inside midfielder. Luke Reynolds is a medium lead up forward who is an excellent kick on his left and agile. Mitchell Harvey is a tall strong key forward who he is a good set shot and could be the next Kurt Tippet, at very least could be a Casboult upgrade.

If we manage to trade back into the 2nd round or get a compensation pick for Betts, I would love to see any of these type of combinations;

1. Lewis Taylor or Marcus Bontempelli or Ben Lennon
2. Jonathon Marsh or Mitch Harvey
3. Patrick Cripps or Luke Reynolds

Sin. You're asking the question but I'd like to know you're opinion.

Which smokies do you like and who do you feel we may target if not for the senior list at least the rookie list.
I think we'll have three spots there even if the rookie list is reduced for propping some up to the senior list.

There are always heaps of smokies who appear good options although the guys I rate for the rookie list could end up going in the second round of the National Draft or getting absolutely no attention at all and never being heard of again. As always I have a strong bias towards the physical work horse types that win their own ball and rough their opponents up.

Each recruiter has different attributes that they look for and as a result they all rate the players differently. The Hawks target elite kicks, the Swans only care about work ethic and the Cats like tall skilful athletes and then each back their development team to teach them the rest.

I have no idea who we may target for the reasons stated above but I will say that after last year with a playing list that pretty well everyone thought needed toughening up, to add Menzel who has been a desperate tackler all year along with Temay, Graham and Cachia out of the four picks we had available I'd say we have the right man in charge to build a list that will be very tough play against.
