Lets assume we go for anyone but McCarthy. You would have to imagine we will be looking to pick up a free agent next year because you feel we will run out of time to have a crack at the flag if we have to recruit a KPP through the draft and wait 3 years for them to develop.

Does anyone know of any KPP that are going to become available next year we would be considering?

Long live the process!

Plus one?

:p

Crippsmas has come early.

Carlton without Judd, Simpson, Scotland and Carrazzo...

Tuohy Jamison McInnes
Everitt Watson Walker
Thomas Cripps Lucas
Menzel Henderson Yarran
Garlett Casboult Robinson
Kreuzer Gibbs Murphy

Docherty Curnow Mclean Bootsma

Emerg: Bell Armfield Graham Temay Buckley

Nice looking side on paper.

Dogs, Sydney and Richmond (first half of the final) hurt us at the clearances. We need to strengthen this area with Judd and Carrazzo veterans. Brock 27. Bell and Robinson are warriors, but they're not elite inside mids. Cripps appears to have poise and better hands. We don't have an inside mid who is 192 cms.

Walker, Thomas, Gibbs, Menzel, Docherty, Yarran, Lucas, Bootsma, Temay and Buckley could play as outside mids/high half forwards/wings. We don't want Gibbs, Murphy and Yarran getting their hands dirty. You want them receiving the ball to use their elite kicking.

Don't think anyone does which is why he could b so unique. However, while inside mids are more important than ever, I think clearance players are becoming less important as teams tend to load up back and across. I suspect that last year was the first recent year where clearances and goals became disassociated. Not trying to downplay the importance of inside mids and it is clearly a reason where we lack, but it is worth acknowledging the reduced role of clearances in determining the outcome of games.

I just hope with the new cats guy on board, we start nailing some drafts. The last few (except last year) have been fairly average at best. I want us to be the guys who get the next fyfe or hannebury.

Last years draft appears to be the best in years. Please keep the ball rolling boys...

Hawthorn were very good this year with loading up from the back.
IMO that was because they were covering a deficiency with their Ruck brigade.
If your mids are getting the ball and just banging it on the boot with out accurately hitting forward targets then that will work. However if you clearances are hitting the target then no realistic amount of loading the back line up will be effective.

Anyone know much about the 'other' Colorjazzknee? Phantoms have him going anywhere from 20-60. Great combine results...should we be interested?

Plays as a 1-on-1 key defender, which is different to his brother's rebounding game. Jake Kolojashnij, however, can also rebound reasonably well.

Just pointing our that mids are getting taller and bigger. Ben Kennedy was a late pick in the teens. Cripps has 13 cms on Taylor Adams. Game is headed that way with Fyfe, Kennedy, Watson, Pendlebury, Mundy, Martin, etc. all taller than Murphy. Wines would be a walk up start if we had him.

First round crucial with so much young talent
''There's nothing between them. Nothing, and I'm talking about 12 of them,'' said one recruiter.

''This is the biggest group I can remember, and the best I can probably remember.

''This year's the year where, if you miss one, you just take the next one and you feel pretty happy about it.

''Whoever's picked at 10, 11 or 12 could end up being the best of them, easily.

''They're that good, and they're that even.

What a co-incidence !! we could do with another key defender!

Kalashnikov it is!

I agree wholeheartedly with this. While we've got a couple of bullocking types in Robinson and Bell, we have a significant dearth of good clearance players. IMO Judd and McLean are the only genuine ones and the former is almost done. Carrazzo adds a bit. Gibbs could play that role but hasn't put it together yet. Murphy isn't a clearance player in the true sense and is wasted in there anyway, like you say.

Where is our Pendlebury, or Selwood, our Kennedy? I haven't seen Cripps play but I am certainly sold on the idea of him.

Anybody else find it strange that the Cats are also big fans of Cripps? ... Luke Williams final piece of IP as a parting gift? :p

Geelong and Sydney are both fans of Cripps, fits their mould and type of big midfielders.
Obviously different clubs would be interested in certain players, however with posters keep complaining that we are reaching for Cripps, a player whose range has been put at 21-40 by the media, here's some assurance that we're not the only ones that rate Cripps.

It's not a bandwagon if we're picking him. :D

Murphy is a great stoppage player with his agility, but he's not going to bulldoze through and smash in like Judd. Gibbs has the size and strength after his performance in the finals.

Best run with mids such as Crowley, Carrazzo, Curnow, etc. are also solid boys.

I Wonder if Williams wanted Cripps and Malthouse wanted McCarthy, and that's why he walked.

He left a few weeks ago and in that time we've been hearing all about how we want Cripps, not McCarthy, so going by that theory it would be the other way round!

Williams left Visy Park two weeks ago with personal issues believed to be the reason behind his departure.

Carlton is adamant that the loss of Williams hasn't impacted on its preparation for tomorrow night's national draft where they have seven picks, starting at No.13.

"He's been gone for a couple of weeks," Carlton chief executive Greg Swann confirmed last night. "All the work was done so it's not an issue from a preparation point of view."

He came to the club in May and left only couple weeks ago
