haha....no worries

This pick 9 seems to have landed in our hands from nowhere!
some posters have been hypothesising in a trade with GWS,
e.g. maybe trading Warnock and Laidler and maybe a 3rd round pick for pick 9.
all just made up scenarios which if it happens, puts the club in a great position to secure possible future stars. if not, well, can't really be upset over something we never had.

Ah ok...Wasn't sure which names were being thrown around. Pick 9 would be a nice little bonus!

Havent got time to wait for young kids coming into the AFL. Blah this draft anyways after the first half dozen picks.

For me;

Trade Yarran and 3rd rounder to MEL for Pick 2. (Roos big advocate of Yaz)
Trade 2, 12, Hampson and Laidler to GWS for Patton, Adams and 9. (Patton is gettable if Buddy and Boyd go up there)
Trade Lucas and Bootsma to WC for Shuey. (Hard inside mid for two WA boys - Mick and Wiles still favoured in West)
Trade 9 to ADEL for Mackay and Henderson. (Two good Vic Lads - ADEL want in first round. Probably getting Eddie too.)
2nd to Brisbane for Docherty who we are allegedly into heavily. (Great player who wants to come home. Maybe add a player or two)
Cash for Daisy. (maybe for Dusty as well as Richmond are cooling quickly apparently).
Magarey Medalist with 4th. (Richmond looking at him) Lambert with 5th. Marcon with 6th. Haretuku from Frankston with 7th. All seasoned and solid players plus 2 we already see at Bullants and 1 big unit prospect.
Re-rookie Mitchell and McCarthy plus 1 or 2 that slipped through.

In: (11+(1)) Patton (KPF), Adams (inside mid), Shuey (inside/outside mid), MacKay (outside mid), Henderson (HB/HF), Docherty (HB/HF), Daisy (outside mid), (Dustin Martin - (dysfunctional mid)), Matt Thomas (inside mid), Lambert (inside/outside mid), Marcon (inside mid), Haretuku (KPP/Ruck).
Out: (12+ delistings) 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th - Yarran, Hampson, Laidler, Lucas, Bootsma. (Maybe Betts too.)

Most of these in's could play first up, while Lambert, Marcon and Haretuku could develop further in a system they already know. They just have greater incentive to achieve AFL dreams. Mick wants mids and we need a gun KPF.

while all that seems more balanced than a lot of posters are proposing in this thread, let's be realistic and trust Mick when he says that this year's INs are gonna be 75% draft and 25% trading

That's balanced?

I don't even know where to start.

So i won't.
If that was directed at my last post, I said it's more balanced than what a lot of other posters have suggested, doesn't mean it's at an optimal level. If it was at such an optimal level, we can all be recruiters at top level clubs

By losing a gun player...

Addition by subtraction works for us plebs who act like list managers and recruiters.

Yeah cause our current list is just bursting at the seams with gun players and doesn't need to be improved at all. Mediocre list needs to be refreshed and I don't see you offering any solutions. Don't worry mate you can just keeping sitting beyond your screen and taking pot shots at others because your in capable of doing anything else :thumbsu:

Instead of hiding behind your computer screen and sniping like a coward why not enlighten us with your expert opinion.

With so much experience on this site surely 6000+ of those posts can't all be from the grassy knoll.

By the way, nice avatar. Your mum must be proud you've been able to retain your babyish good looks.

Cheer up.

Don't need to be an expert to understand we're not going to gain so much top level talent by giving away so little. When we're adding twice as much as we're subtracting it doesn't take a genius to understand that the maths doesn't add up. Teams don't let go of high picks and talent only to receive expendable/developing players in return (Hampson & Laidler expendable, Lucas, Bootsma developing for example).

There is a big difference between what we want and what is actually possible. I want a Ferrari but i'm not going to get one for the price of a Camry am i?

If this is true and you're offering feasible solutions, then I'd love to see your proposal that will get us Boyd.

You're still missing the point. We'll only have three first round picks if we give up a quality player and a pick or another player. The cost is too high.

Two of those if we get #13 as FA Compo for Eddie and don't get Daisy.

Pick 9 would be pretty obtainable. And if Daisy stays a Pie, we could be going into the draft with picks, 9, 12 and 13 just for starters.
Cringle, your first name wouldn't be Kris by any chance.:D

Warnock, Laidler and a 3rd round pick for pick 9. Do we really think this is enough for GWS to part for pick 9?

How do we get pick 13, is this via FA compensation for Eddie? Not sure Eddie's worth a first round pick. Maybe an early to mid second round pick? Anyone know how the AFL work out Compo picks - I'm guessing a board with a spinning arrow might be involved.

First of all, good one:D:thumbsu:
In terms of the compensation draft pick, it depends on the contract that the his new club offers him. Everyone has been going with pick 13, the pick right after our current pick based on numerous reports that the Crows are offering Betts a 4 year contract of $2 million, which belongs to band one compensation (thanks Jeremias!). But who knows, we've been shafted by the AFL before, they might do it again just for their own personal amusement.

And how do we end up with it?

I put forward the trade idea that with GWS needing an experienced ruckman and their having to bring in experienced players, they will be more interested in trading picks for players and we have 2 spare #1 ruckmen usually running around in the seconds that we can work a trade for pick 9.

I put forward the idea of trading Warnock and our 4th (or 5th) round pick for their pick 9.

It would be nice if we can get it... if we dont, we havent lost anything.

Makes sense.

Although, on second thought there really wouldnt be much point in offering a 4th or 5th round pick since I don't think they may end up using it. They would probably want a minimum of a third round pick as a sweetener.

Double edit: Dont they have a compo pick to activate in the first round still??? Which would make a third round pick to them seem useless too. They may have already used three by the time the third round starts, and their next pick will be very early since they finished near the bottom.

It's too late to be thinking about stuff... lol

Throwing in a 4th or 5th round pick isn't going to add anything to the trade. A pick in the 50's plus isn't going to be attractive to pretty much any team (especially GWS).

Considering GWS are pretty desperate for a number 1 ruckman, and a couple of experienced best 22 this trade period. Both Warnock and Laidler might just be enough. They aren't going to lock down that pick 9, as it isn't too needed.
