Would love to get pick nine (off gws for Warnock and Laidler -although it favours us a bit since they need to trim their list down) retain pick 12 and receive pick 13 or 20 for Betts (no daisy via f/a). We would be able to complete a micro-rebuild of our midfield in one draft.

Strengths

Strong bodied, great hands, brilliant set shot, great footy IQ, good at ground level, offers multiple leads, very hard working forward, unbeatable 1v1, can kick bags of goals, very physical, big leap and athleticism in his lateral movements and sidestep makes him an exciting forward.

Weaknesses

An injury riddled junior career is something that recruiters will approach with caution, given his body just hasn’t coped at the moment. Although, the upside in Conlon is frightening and he’ll be hard to resist as the second and third rounds roll over. He’ll spend a while developing in a reserves system before he sees any type of senior action. Very much a long-term prospect, rather than a forward who would come in and impact in the first one or two years. A club will need to be very diligent in his recover and his development.
We don't mind taking a punt on those with knee issues, so what about this guy?

He even looks like he'd eat you if you looked at him the wrong way. :D

Rohan Kerr bagged 5 in the WAFL GF yesterday. Repreive for him ala Cachia?
Looked a class above player - wished we gave him a game.

My opinion will change plenty before the draft, but my preferences for the ND as of now would be:

#12 - Nathan Freeman (or Crouch if he's available) - future gun midfielder with a body that's ready to play senior footy from R1
#29 - Patrick Cripps - tall, strong inside midfielder with huge upside.
#47 - Mitch Thorp - a potential Jack Darling-esque story whereby he could come in from R1 and play the 2nd tall to take some much needed pressure off Waite and co. If we don't get a solid mature forward in trade period, I can see Mick giving Thorp a second chance. Would add a bit of mongrel to our quiet fwd line.
#65 - Rookie UG Curnow
#? - can see us getting a late pick as steak knives for Tom Bell rookie upgrade

The above is assuming we can snag Daisy in FA and lose Eddie, giving us zero compensation. If we get Daisy right for R1, we could potentially have him, Freeman and Thorp in the R1 side. Add to this the potential of trading in Docherty and Staker, and we could have as many as 5 new faces in the R1 team.

Exciting times.

Seems a likely type.:thumbsu:

And considering our clubs history of injury management I think we should lock him in... o_O

More specifically our history with developing tall, angry, athletic, ginger KPP's is terrible

Would be a good project player. A simple yet highly effective plan:

1. HAIRCUT. GET A DAMN HAIRCUT. DAMN ******* KIDS
2. A full year of minimal game time and maximum strength and rehabilitation on the body.
3. Reap rewards :thumbsu:

Like this. Freeman would be about this pick. Love Cripps but seem to think he will be gone before Pick 29. Likely that he will go late teens early 20's. Battersby or Tsitas as next options. Thorpe a yes at 47.

Assuming we get Daisy (hoping it's resolved fairly early to give us room to deal for Eddie) then I can see Mick trying to trade Eddie instead to give us something for him. I'd much rather get something (say a Henderson or Brodie Martin/McKernan double) from Adelaide or even see if Norf will give up their 2nd pick (around 24?) for him.

Would then have 12, 24, 29 and allow us to maybe grab Cripps early or a slider like Pies did last year. Dunstan wouldn't fall to 24 would he?

Plenty of players have been rated very highly going into their draft year and fallen way down the rankings, similarly plenty of players have shown huge improvement or upside and screamed up the order. Conlon hasn't even played this year so has given recruiters nothing to go on, he's being talked up as a forward based on two (very good) games at the beginning of last year. I'd suggest the best thing he could do is play as an overage player in the TAC Cup next year.

don't see how there is anyway a recruiter could pick Conlon, I like what I read but serious knee injury and minimal game time doesn't bode well for anyone trying to get drafted. he might be a rookie pick at best but my guess is he'll go into the vfl system next year if capable. unfortunate but likely situation.

= 1 trade and 3 draft picks, that's about normal.
not just the standard minimum of 3 picks mate, when someone says 75% draft, it says to me that we'll be trading for draft picks (hopefully first round-early second round), and we'll be picking up rookies as well. Again, 75% is just an estimate from Mick, no one sensible is going to look back and get stuck into him for not sticking with the percentages he said.

Good point. Donaldson, something like that? Could fair roost a ball. Excitable looking kid.

They have Crouch dropping to pick 17, that's fairly low for a bloke who's been talked as the best clearance player in this year's crop. When our pick came up, I wasn't so sure if they had the draft picks according to the club's needs at all.

Throwing in a 4th or 5th round pick isn't going to add anything to the trade. A pick in the 50's plus isn't going to be attractive to pretty much any team (especially GWS).

The premise behind my trade idea is the fact that GWS are going to be hunting experienced players for their future.

And to be honest, it's a lot more realistic than some of the other trade ideas we have had on here (Kreuzer, Yarran and Lucas for pick 1... WTF)

All I was suggesting is that anyone who is expecting anything more than normal for this off season, could be disappointed. If we do get extra picks/upgrades or trade in 2-3 good players, then great, but I'm not expecting anything a whole lot different to any other year to happen.
