What is a bit of a surprise is Scharenberg at #7, would be absolute bargain for Brisbane,
Look, I don't mind taking the 2nd best key forward in this year's draft, however does anyone know how has McCarthy recovered from his broken leg?
I'm still in the idea that we'll be calling out a midfielder on draft night.

Rather rookie a ruck. Unless you think Conlon will be a good KPF.
Those highlights show that he is a pretty solid kick at goal. Has a double hitch step to balance up just before his last couple of steps before kicking. Also has a damned good set of hands.

I say rookie him if he is available or take him with a late pick. #39 is probably a bit high.

Look at the guns on Kelly...

There are certainly a few pipsqueaks in this draft. Kelly, Aish, Billings, Hartung, Taylor and Crouch.

We're a lock to take an inside mid this draft at #13.

One of Crouch/Dunstan/Sheed etc
C4[2]Yo`DooR Just realised that Sheed meets your vital recruiting criteria of looking Croatian or Serbian without being Croatian or Serbian...

It's uncanny that our last three top 20 selections meet C4's criteria.

No to McCarthy at 13

AFL site is suggesting him at No. 13 too

Carlton
Pick 13: The Blues need some more talls in attack, and could get the second-best one of the draft at their first selection. West Australian Cameron McCarthy is a leaping, marking goalkicker who was an All Australian under-18 forward. He has been recovering from a broken leg.
Around the mark: Christian Salem, Ben Lennon, Lewis Taylor

Would like KK, Freeman, Acres or even Gardiner (possible replacement for Jamison in two or three years) instead of McCarthy.

Pick 13 needs to have ticker and good skills.

Looks like he's been to Arizona already - grown 2cm in a week

13. Carlton
CAMERON MCCARTHY
193cm, 85kg
Club: South Fremantle
Key forward who clutches big marks leaping from the side or back of pack. Shot up ranks in his first year of serious footy, before broken leg in the champs. Snug fit for Blues but Richmond could pip them.

Doesnt look like he will last until #39 - Would be funny if Sydney take him with #32
Funny is not the word that comes to my mind, but seriously I would be surprised if the Swans took him at 32 given they drafted a similar type in Membrey last year & I would also be surprised if he slid all the way to 39.

Call me psychic but can anyone already hear Rogers and Hughes chirping "We couldn't believe he was still available at..."?

I think thats the line all recruiters use to cover themself's and to justify their selections.

Along with we considered him with our prior selection as we rated him very highly

TC has a phantom draft thread and I just put this together. Not claiming to have any draft expertise but if reading a million write ups and watching clips classifies as interesting for you, here's my top 20:

1. GWS - Tom Boyd
2. GWS - Josh Kelly
3. StK - Billings
4. WB - Aish
5. GC - Scharenberg
6. COL - Bontempelli
7. BRI - Kolodjashnij
8. NM - MacDonald
9. MEL - Salem
10. COL - McCarthy
11. WC - Sheed
12. RIC - Lennon
13. CAR - Crouch
14. GWS - Freeman
15. SYD - Taylor
16. GEE - Acres
17. FRE - Dumont
18. StK - Hartung
19. StK - Gardiner
20. GC - Dunstan

Have factored in teams with multiple picks taking a risk with team needs (StK and Pies).

I'll be pissed if the pies pick up Bontempelli and McCarthy but I'll be happy with crouch

I have read reports that says if he is somewhat "lazy", now I'm not sure what that actually means as the kid averaged about 38 possessions per game in the TAC Cup, however if at the top level, he really puts his head down and cracks into it, applies himself to leave no stone unturned, well I believe he'll become an A-grader.

We couldn't care less after we traded 33 for Docherty and 32 for 39 and Everitt. We clearly value these players more than who we were looking at with picks 32 and 33. Richmond arguably have more to lose with their second pick right before our third pick (51). They lacked the trade bait to get another pick in top 40.

I keep reading that McCarthy is injury prone.

How many injuries has CM had too date?

We didn't baulk at drafting Menzel with his injury history.

The Dogs picked Stringer who had a terrible break two years ago.

Have no doubt we'll pick the best talent.

We don't want another undersized McCarthy who doesn't measure up to the mids we overlooked. :rainbow:

Exactly, whereas if you rubbed Hampson the wrong way - he'd be the kind that would write you a poem detailing all of the ways that you've hurt his feelings internally and provided negative energy flow into his chi cycle.

Or just rub you the right way ;)

[quote="Omega Blue, post: 30774925, member: 13007k Conlon will be there in the rookie draft, I couldn't imagine a recruiter giving a senior list position to a guy who although supremely talented hasn't played much football this year, although we did it with Mitchell.[/quote]

Yes!

Please, no more project talls or previous delistees in the first two rounds!

With Hampson being traded to the Tigers, and now effectively having only two ruckmen on the list - I think we should pick up local boy Cameron Conlon (probably with our #39?).

I like his work as an athletic KPF (much more natural than Hampson - better mark and kick) and we can take him on as a developing ruckman.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-10-20/cameron-conlon
Yeah had a look at his highlights earlier and I liked the look of him as a KPF. Decent frame on him for his age and should be able to bulk up a bit more without losing his athleticism. Doubt if he'll be in the Rookie draft as others have suggested but 39 might be a bit high. Hard to tell with KPF's being a rare commodity.
