We must, must take the best available at #13 (perhaps less so at #39, but probably still so). If that is McCarthy, so be it.

Rest assured, whatever pick McCarthy does go at for their recruiter to say "I can't believe he slid to our selection - we rated him in the top dozen!" :)

Expect this board to go into meltdown on the basis that he's too short if we select pint-sized Lewis Taylor.

Yeah, Dunstan looks good, likened to a Luke Ball in style on one site. Looks almost ready to go, but I'd have a few ahead of him, out of those players (vaguely) likely to fall near #13.

I know that someone insisted Nathan Freeman "will never be like Judd", but he's a line breaker + good height + elite speed - you never know how close he'll get. Seems like someone who is not far off being able to be slotted in the team.

As I've said before, one of Freeman, Salem, Crouch, Dunstan would be an awesome get and I sense all of these players would not be far off slotting in the team.

Exactly we need a Jobe Watson type player more than we need a Daniel Wells. Which is why if Sheed slips past West Coast I think he is an obvious pick.
Yeah, Sheed will be a jet. How could I leave him out? Meh, convinced even less chance than Freeman or Crouch of getting him @ 13.

Would be happy with any of the four, however don't know much about Salem?

Neither. Lots of hype about this being a shallow draft but I'd back our recruiters to select a couple of quality 18yo prospects at 51 and 69.
I'm still not buying this shallow draft stuff. Shallow for A grade tall prospects but I really rate the medium sized players and there are still plenty if solid tall prospects for the second and third round

All the phantoms have Sheed slipping through to West Coast at 11, I just think that West Coast future midfield of Shuey & Gaff is a bit one paced so they might let him slide and opt for some pace, so is a small chance he gets to us.

I have to admit, I haven't seen him play, so this is based on reports, highlight reel, word-of-mouth:

Very quick, excellent awareness, excellent goal smarts, elite kick, above-avg mark for his 6-foot height, seems very solid for his age - could almost slot in. Seems to have been played as an outisde mid, but could at some stage become an inside mid.

If this happens, how does the saying go......oh.....it would be bone on pants.

Add tough as old boots and you're pretty well spot on. :thumbsu:

Not saying that that won't be great, but a local talent who was the MVP in the U18 national championships, is too hard to overlook for the Eagles, plus by all reports they traded pick 6 down to pick 11 because they were confident that Sheed will still be there at 11 so that they can snatch him up.

He's been playing 1's at Brighton Grammar since year 9 so I guess that says a fair bit about how good he is.

Only bad thing is that he supports the the drug cheats.
We can change that but.

Brett Anderson just said on SEN that he thinks we'll be going mid at #13 :thumbsu:
Did he mention any names that are around at our range?

Yeah, I'm hearing that from various sources, and also that Richmond have decided on Salem. Damnation!

I'm now thinking we are a vague chance for Freeman, and a slightly better chance for Crouch.

Gut feeling ( and not much more ) now tells me that we'll end up with Crouch or Dunstan.

I just realised that this is the first year in which the vast majority of draftees will be younger than me.

I don't like it. :(

I was just happy that Adelaide recruited a bloke this year that was older than me
