We're third in the league on clearances. In a year were Murphy played hurt, without Carazzo for most of it and Gibbs wasn't in the middle till the end.

Meanwhile we are 16th in the league for marks. But 1st for contested marks.

Yet we don't need outside link-up players.

This fetish for inside mids is honestly bizarre. It's obvious that with Murphy, Gibbs, Judd, Thomas, Carazzo, Mclean, Curnow, Cachia, Bell, Ellard etc. so forth being spoon fed by Kreuzer and Warnock we are fine in the clinches. But once we distribute outside? We need gut-runners on the flanks with Mick's gameplan. We need players who get the ball and move it on quickly.

Violent agreement.

Reckon anyone on the Crouch bandwagon is going to be disappointed come draft night. Don't know the kids from a bar of soap but the language from the club, and common sense, has us going for some outside run. Freeman sounds like the sort we would be hoping for.

I liking Acres more by the minute, hope the poster that said that we're super keen on Acres was right.

The more I read about Crouch the more I am keen, how someone can average 30+ possessions and have such poor endurance has me confused! it obviously takes a decent tank to get to contests and stoppages so can't be that bad and then just imagine him once he has 2-3 years of AFL preseason sunder his belt.

Would be interested if there are stats of his games broken down into how many he gets in first quarter vs 4th.

I'm hoping for a Sandgroper celebration on Draft night.

Sheed, Acres or McCarthy. I would be very happy with 1 of those. Or Luke Dunstan.

Billings looks the best of the Vic boys this year. Bontempelli is a wildcard and not overly fussed with the rest.

Billings over Boyd? Are you really Terry Wallace?

Kramer1 : Freeman won't be there thats why, if he is them I'm on board

People saying "but we have Judd and Mclean and Carrazzo" as inside mids are forgetting that they are all 28+

Our youth includr Yarran, Lucas, Menzel etc all classy outside players.
Grayham, Curnow and Robinson are our only youthful inside mids at this stage and Crouch sees a class above them all

Think we need a bigger bodied mid to replace Judd though.

I havent really seen any big bodied judd type players that will be around our pick in this draft

Knightmare has Sharenberg slipping to 12 but personally I cant see him getting past Collingwood at 10 or Brisbane at 7, and even then he's more of a Goddard than a Judd

Whilst Crouch is only 181 he's certainly physically big, Judds strength comes from his cpre and hip power to break through tackles on his youth, thats what made him who he is. Crouch has similar levels of strength, compared to under 18 boys anyway.
The fact is Judd is a once in a liftime player, one of the best, there probably wont be a Judd in this draft or the next or the next etc

I just love his absolute desire for the footy, I think we need that, he's ravenous

Was arguably the best player in the comp at one point. You know I won't complain if we get Crouch but I'd consider getting a Dunstan/Dumont type too. Unless we think Crouch is capable of been a Liberatore type player who can rack up the clearances.

Efa ;)

I'll see what our recruiters think, wrapt with Menz

Last year Wines was number 1 on my list but knew he'd be gone and Menz was my number 2

So hopefully the recuriters will satisfy me again

So of those likely to be around our pick, is there any ready made that could impact from next year form permitting, or have I missed this discussion several times over?

Ah well we wanted Taylor Adams for our first and he is around the same height as Crouch anyway.

As a pretty hardcore dreamteamer the ones who look ready to play round 1 next year would be

Boyd, Kelly, Sharenberg, Sheed, Crouch maybe Freeman, Dumont possibly.

Theyre the ones that I have read/watched the most about, im knly familiar with the top 20 prospects or so though, there are plenty of big bodied players who will draft lower, a lot of second and third chance guys, bigger older bodies.

Then there are the
Tipprt, Garlett, Thorpes who could all play round o
1 but will go late in the draft

This fetish for inside mids is honestly bizarre. It's obvious that with Murphy, Gibbs, Judd, Thomas, Carazzo, Mclean, Curnow, Cachia, Bell, Ellard etc. so forth being spoon fed by Kreuzer and Warnock we are fine in the clinches. But once we distribute outside? We need gut-runners on the flanks with Mick's gameplan. We need players who get the ball and move it on quickly.

We have a pure gut running link man in Lucas and we just brought in another one in Daisy if his ankle is right. So suddenly, out on the wings, we have a couple of genuine distributors who can seriously shift the ball about. Lucas needs to slow down a step and give himself more time to think about his execution.

And the best thing about Daisy and Lucas is that they can both impact the scoreboard when they get down to the forward flanks.

I think we're in a pretty comfortable position again this year (which is within the #10-13 range).

We sort of bypass the perceived expectations that are set on the top 7 picks - and typically get a player that has fallen out of the much publicised top 10 fall to our pick (such as Menzel last year).

Regardless of the type of player, given our additions this off-season - we can't lose.

http://boundforglorynews.com/tac-cup-player-focus-sam-heavyside/ reading suggestions he could slip through to the 3rd or 4th round, looks a fairly handy pick 51 selection.

Would be rapt to see him go, but it's not like there's an absence of sub 180 cm inside midfielders this year. Heavyside's agility and ability to be able to be dangerous in a forward pocket might mean that he has enough weapons to be looked at; but his injury concerns and the fact he tends to miss with his kicks means that he might be looked over. Really hope someone pulls the trigger, but I'd imagine Langdon, Herbert and Kearns are all 19 year olds who get a look in first.

Yeah it'd be nice to come out of a draft with a clear steal and quality (i.e Fyfe). Not sure when the last time that's occured, although Menzel has the potential to be.
