No love for Acres?!

He is in the mix, Acres is a player where I am attempting to determine where to place him. There are plenty of good reports from many sources that have seen him a heap more than me, but I am struggling to place him.

I go from placing him anywhere from 8-20. I keep remembering his output at the championships and it clouds my other judgements. In a short midfielders draft, his height and ability is what makes him interesting.

Looks ok - a nice size for a full-time midfielder.

However, if he is anything like brother, he would probably want to be traded back to Perth after a few years.

Agree re the size. Guys like Mundy, Fyfe, Barlow and the Likes of Watson and Kennedy as mentioned in my post to LM are not overly fast, either in acceleration or top speed but can obviously run all day.

People say Judd is big bodied but he's not, he's just strong through the core which allows him to stand up in the contest. Judd is as tall but has a lighter frame than the likes of Gibbs and the guys above, more of a runner's body which aided his burst speed.

Re the go home thing, while I understand the reasons it must really piss the clubs off and I think it has definitely come into certain club's thinking in terms of recruiting.

Why bother with a young ruck that will take 3-4 years to develop, will be high risk that they will make it at AFL level and if they do is every chance they will move clubs once we have developed them. Would much rather Rookie a 22-25 year old out of the state comps who should we be hit by disaster and Robbie and Kruezar get injured/suspended can come in and do a job.

I think his shoulder was strapped up because of the injury he got pre-championship, and that affected where he played on the field. I have read somewhere that this year he was playing in the guts more before the injury, and post injury he played more around half-back, outside sorta role.
Based on your judgements though, how would you describe him?

De Luca, Bryan, Stephenson are all examples of 'state comps' that weren't worth the effort.

Rookie-ing a ruck is an insurance that when Warnock retires in 3 years time, we'll have one ready.
I don't reckon you can call Stephenson a failure, did a job when required was never going to be a premiership player but helped the Cats through a time of need until they were able to pinch a better ruck. The best teams do not develop ruckmen, they wait for them to develop at other clubs and then pinch the best.

There is too much variable in a 18 year old 200cm beanpole to bother wasting 4 years and over $500k developing them. With North's ruck stocks I wouldn't mind waiting for them to spend another 12 months developing Majak Daw and then pinching him next year as no doubt he will again be starved of opportunity.

Problem with that being if Majak was starved of opportunity at North, why would he want to come to Carlton to be behind Warnock and Kruz? Goes from 3rd in line to 3rd in line, he wouldn't bother.

Seems to be a lot of meat and potatoes in the top end of this years draft.
I guess last year had quite a few talented players that you could put the X-factor next to......Menzel, Stringer, Macrae, Mayes, Simpson, Garlett (even though he wasn't drafted)

Who are the sexy players this year? Bontempelli? Anyone else?

Well I'm not a player, and I'm not in the draft, but I'm sexy. That's gotta count for something right?

After Freo's efforts this year, tall midfielders are all the rage.

Bontempelli and Acres (not sure who else) are appealing types.

But for every Mundy or Pendles there is a Cale Morton. Seem like high riskier options, higher reward

Freo's tenacity and sheer unrelenting pressure was their calling card methinks. I'd rather see the club just go after a guy that can kick the football and be prepared to give 100% all the time.

Agree on both points, I just think the big midfielder theory is just the flavor of the month and therefore gives those couple of prospects an extra edge that recruiters will be looking for.

How does Kolodjashnij compare to Bootsma?

Given that both are around the same height and would be competing for the same position as a rebounding defender?

From what I know Kolodjashnij is more your Birchill type defender while I'd put Bootsma as a smaller Dustin Fletcher.

No thanks... The best players at TAC level play midfield or key position.. Only reason a player would play of half back is because they are not good enough to play in the guts, the same goes with any half forward.

Or because coaches want to see them play different roles?

Or because being a flaner requires a different skillset to being a midfielder?

Or because carte blanche statements are inherently false, as one statement can never be universally true. Even saying everybody dies only has a 93% accuracy (7% of known humans are still alive, as they have not died it cannot be proven everyone dies)

The first half of his kicking action looks really awkward.

The second half looks as smooth and in control as anyone.

I like him.

Get Dunstan.
Latest rating system as accurate and relevant as any other.

I really like the sound of him, however all the good draft watchers on BF seem to think he's a real stretch for #13, and no way will he last to #39.

A lefty from SA named Dunstan would be a premier selection.
