Don't want to waste a pick and a contract on anyone when there are better options available. If there are any decent talls we can take them later on, otherwise just rookie some guys for insurance. A clearance specialist with pace is just what the doctor ordered. I would really like Freeman, but hard to see him slipping that far.

One for the rookie list is Taylor Grace of Sandy Dragons. He is Gibbs. Has played a sweeper role for most of his junior footy and reads the game very well. Good on both sides of his body and is no dickhead. West Coast are sniffing and hopefully we are too.

Aren't they always?
Must be a culture thing :D

does anyone know how many senior list guys and rookie guys clubs are allowed next season ??? is it the same as this year, because I thought the afl was cutting the numbers back now that gws are not getting so many extra picks and players on their list from now on ??? is it still 44 in total for all the "old" clubs, or has it been cut back...........just wondering ???

My draft day wishlist

#1 If he's available, which he highly likely won't be, Nathan Freeman looks a jet
Elite kick, with quick pace and space in the contest, very Judd or Dangerfield esque in the way he plays
http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-10-20/nathan-freeman

#2 The raging bull Matt Crouch
Prolific ball winner averaging over 30 in TAC cup, often hacks it out of the pack but can hit someone when he slows down, but it's the ability to get off handballs when others can't that make him stand out
http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-10-20/matt-crouch

I'd be ridiculously happy if we got either of these two at 13. Suspecting Freeman may go just before us. Freeman screams out Judd II and Crouch screams out Sammy Mitchell with pace. Both Vic kids as well so the go home doesnt factor.

Interesting read on Crouch that plenty of recruiters were surprised when GWS didnt take him in the mini-draft and the pundits suggested he was as good as his brother. Gets leather poisoning and often.

Just watched Ben Brown highlight reel again. Really thinking he could be a FF option for us. Great pack grab, leads well, really good kicking technique and already has a big body. Has progressed well with better coaching at state level and could only progress further in the big league with full time coaching. Would absolutely love a draft that netted us:

13. Crouch, 51. Sliding mid or Dayle Garlett, and 69. Ben Brown (would take him at 51 if warranted)

Have a strange feeling that with the AFL providing mutliple opportunities for list liodgements and delistings, that we may not be done altering our list. I fear big Sam Rowe and little Davey Ellard could be in the firing line. Would love to keep Ellard as I think he is great insurance for our mids at this stage and we havent yet picked up another mid, though I fully expect that to change at Pick 13. Rowey though, may just be borrowing time until we look at the National draft. Could allow us a pick at the PSD if warranted.

I'm swinging towards Crouch now after been so against him.

Clearance specialist, goes in hard and racks up the touches. Tony Liberatore is 180cm and he was the clearance king this year. Could be our version of Toby Greene. No go home factor and we do need another ball winner. Already got Bell to add size for the future. With Doc ( future mid) , Lucas ( hope he improves his kicking) and Daisy I think our run issue is addressed for now.

Damn Kelly and Kolodjashni test well.

Kelly is a lock at #2 and those numbers might make sure KK doesn't slide.
GC or Brisbane would be looking at KK you'd imagine, especially Brisbane who i'm sure wouldn't mind a Tasmanian with no home to go home to, and even though Brisbane could use a tall, their pick might be abit too early to pick up McCarthy

Zak Jones is my wildcard selection. :hearts:

AA player and younger brother of another gun mid, yet he isn't pumped as the second coming like Crouch.

Keeping up with Jones: Zak's journey to join older brother
Jones is described as a medium defender but considers himself capable of holding down a role as an inside midfielder, while being able to take on a lock-down job if needed.

He finished school at the end of year 11 in 2012 and this year, worked three days a week with his Rosebud-based father, Brad, who is a carpenter.

He is looking for an electrician apprenticeship and hopes he'll be able to complete one while playing elite football, if he is drafted.

"Our house was full of footy," he said.

"We had a fair few wrestling matches; mum's probably got heaps of stories about us breaking things.

"Having two brothers older than me, beating up on me and me trying to fight back makes you more competitive to beat them but then also when you go on to the football field, you just want to win."

"There's a huge mental battle in footy and that's what a lot of people don't really see.

"Having my brother there, I get to really see what emotional battles he has."

On the road with the Country cousins
It turned out Jones didn't need too much advice (at least from Nathan) – after the championships he was named an All Australian defender. But he did get a lesson from Country defensive coach, and former Carlton full-back, Glenn Manton.

Jones called Manton after the Northern Territory game, having felt he didn't get enough of the ball. Manton's message was simple: "He told me I needed to plug in and plug out, and there's got to be times when you don't worry about it and move on.

"And he also told me he wants me to kick a goal … and do the robot dance for him when I do."
On the road with the Country cousins

Jones is probably the type others have mentioned as being a second round bargain like Parker, Hanneberry, Beams, etc. Shame he's the sort of player who could land at Hawthorn, Sydney or even Geelong in the twenties and before our second pick.

The back pocket-midfielder description sounds a little like Rory Sloane who played on Yarran before becoming a tough mid. Would be interested to know if Jones has the disposal, endurance and speed to be a mid.

The other reason they won a flag is they have players who know how to kick a ball - not sure though how those players fared in their beep tests, time trials and clean hands tests.

Hawks midfield isn't that great and they were smashed in this area during the GF but their potency up forward was ridiculous.
