New manager, new coach to run things by as well as adding Luke Williams and also Michael Jordan. Every other business the manager is recognised as the one who makes the final call with big decisions but people flat out refuse to acknowledge this when it comes to the Carlton recruiting department.
I wasn't trying to argue with what you were saying, I just couldn't remember if there were many changes in the recruiting department, I had completely forgotten about Michael Jordan for example,
cheers.

I think Lennon would be an excellent pick up, there's a lot of Luke Parker about him. Haven't seen any of Acres work but from reports he's a very tempting prospect.

I've changed my mine (yet again) on Lennon.

At his size 189 cms/80 kgs) and with his frame - he has the capability to be a bit of a bull at AFL level, would love his lead up and long kicking from the HFF.

Seems to be this years version of Vlastuin.

I wouldn't be unhappy with any of:

Lennon, Salem, Freeman, Acres (although I'm least sold on Acres).

Pass on Dumont - seems like a very boring footballer.

Get Marsh.

20 goals and 37 behinds in 13 games...............We'll get his kicking right.:)

I think we're one pick away from getting a player we'd all be happy with.

Boyd, Kelly, Billings, Aish, Kolodjashnij, Bontempelli, McDonald, Salem, Lennon, Sheed, Acres and Scharenberg make up the 12 players many of us would like to attain.
We just happen to be no. 13

We may have to hope that someone picks up a McCarthy, Freeman, Taylor or Crouch before us, so one of the above boys may drop.

Anyone hearing anything?

The only thing that I have heard is that Melbourne are keen on Freeman, which if true - pushes one of those 12 out to our pick.

Haven't head anything, but quite often in these types of positions it can work out well for the team waiting to see what falls through to them. There is generally a surprise or 2 in the top end of the draft and we could well be the beneficiaries once the other clubs have changed their selections accordingly. To me, it seems we're in line to be able to get a player who will make a good portion of us happy.

Most of the PD's have Carlton picking up McCarthy. I take it most people on here see him as too much of a long-term investment and would rather Carlton pick up a midfielder who can make a more immediate impact ??? I personally wouldn't mind investing in a KPF with our 1st selection as it sounds like the draft is full of mids, and hope one falls through to #39 as other clubs go fishing for talls later in the draft (assuming that the mids available at #13 are around the same quality of McCarthy, if someone is clearly better then you go with best available).

Walk away with splinters in butt ......

I definitely wouldn't be against pulling the trigger on Marsh, he has so much scope, and I think if his leading patterns were adjusted he'd kick more goals.

the stupid thing about phantoms is that the person doing them takes into account needs basis when I believe most recruiters look at best available for the first round at least. if we didn't have Henderson then I could theoretically see us taking McCarthy due to dire needs basis, I just don't see it happening this draft.

There are half a dozen excellent midfield prospects who could fall to our pick that would make me, and the majority on here, very happy.

The train of thought I cannot fathom is the contempt for the idea of taking McCarthy with whom I would be just as happy. We are all aware that you cannot have too many quality mids and would welcome one with open arms. Adding Thomas, developing Bell, Graham and Cachia, and the likelihood of Murphy and Carrazzo being fit and available, already significantly improve our midfield. The additions of Everitt and especially Docherty give us more options either directly or by releasing Walker, Tuohy or Simmo to the rotations.

Surely our need for a quality tall forward is just as pressing, if not more so. One J.Waite is not getting any younger. Posters want to overlook McCarthy because he may take a year or four to develop. The little I saw of him suggests he could play a significant role in his first couple of years. Then we have the "Next year is a KPP draft, we can get one then"............what, and be another year from having a developed tall? With a relatively tight cap, we are 50/1 of picking up a gun KPF through free agency, even if one is available. The GWS/GCS "go home" kids will be at considerable cost also.

The players mooted as being gun talls next year have been in the system for a number of years, and have varying degrees of upside. (Speaking collectively as have no first hand knowledge). Many will fall in to the Mitchell category of being big kids beating up on smaller oponents. Young McCarthy is relatively new to the system and has already proven to be a match winner (albeit at junior level). He has significant upside and is potentially a bargain, available at our selection.

We are in a "window" which should not see us go backwards so are going to continue to have first picks in the teens. I see McCarthy as medium risk, high reward and as such have no problem if he is called out with our first pick.

No chance.

We just brought Thomas, Docherty and Everitt into our 22, minus Betts. Plenty of seasoned players will thus be competing for the role of sub.

Agreed, would be very surprised if our pick 13 played rnd 1.

Wouldn't surprise me if Doc wasn't playing rnd 1 either considering where he plays.

A few players we've grown used to seeing in the seniors are going to get a shock next season

I want a player in the 22 for round 1, hence I am pumping for Freeman. He is ready to play and not a project. We have enough projects with Temay, Graham and Buckley.

Calling Graham a project is a bit far fetched.

Agree Bradschi - Graham not a project player. Over next 1-2 years, we will see the likes of Bell, Graham, Menzel and hopefully Temay start to become best 22 players as spots in the team open up with Scotto, Juddy and Carrots winding down. Of those around our range (10-20), I'd say Salem may be most likely to have an impact in 2014 (assuming the obvious ones are taken before). Taylor is another who could come in to play 15 games, as well as Freeman.

But with the large amount of players vying for best 22 spots in that 20-24 years age bracket, it's going to be hard for any new draftees playing significant time next year. Could see us blooding McCarthy in 2014, however unless one of Rowe/Cas start to step up. If Mac hits the track and gym hard over off-season (if he ended up with us), he should definitely be given a taste of senior footy to get him used to it asap.

Ok, so hearing Freeman is a somewhat remote chance, Salem slightly better, Couch a good chance and Acres better again. Went over Acres highlight reel, and read a bit about him - so he's supposed to be Forward/Midfielder. Highlights showed mostly forward work. Do not really have a grasp of what he's like, TBH. Definitely sounds like he has great potential and offers versatility. I guess the thing that is (rightly or wrongly) swaying me is the acute awareness that we may be facing a midfielder crisis in about two years and want CFC to recruit pure mids first and foremost.

My (very humble) thinking at this point is (based on players likely near #13 pick):

- Freeman still my no.1, but Salem now very closely behind for me. Both these players look very solid, physically. Both speed demons. Freeman more insider, Salem's disposal to die for. Both ok height at 6ft and 6ft1" respectively.
- Crouch: more solid, physically, than his baby-face suggests. Around Shmurph's height. Have a very strong feeling this will be our man.
- Dunstan
- Acres

The wait is seriously killing me :-(
