Our first pick is #13, but I agree and think that he will be gone (most likely to Melbourne at #9) unless there was a very late bolter - in which case he may slip to us or allow for more of the top 12 to slip to us.

I think it will pan out like this:

1. GWS - Boyd
2. GWS - Kelly
3. St Kilda - Billings
4. WB - Aish
5. Gold Coast - Scharenberg
6. Collingwood - Bontempelli
7. Brisbane - Kolodjashnij
8. North - Luke McDonald
9. Melbourne - Freeman
10. Collingwood - Lennon
11. West Coast - Sheed
12. Richmond - Salem/Acres
13. Carlton - Salem/Acres
I'm already looking forward to seeing Andy D trying to wrap his tongue around this come brownlow night.

C4 Im buying you a drink if the Tigers end up with Blake Acres mate
Reckon Acres could be the big bolter - Knightmare has him as high as 6 in his power rankings. Reckon he could go top 10? Imagine this:

McCarthy goes to Lions at 7, Freeman to Dees at 9, Acres to Tigers at 10. Means Blues would definitely end up with one of Lennon or Salem.

Any chance West Coast take Acres ahead of Sheed?
If Sheed gets snaffled earlier than 11 (Gee, wouldn't West Coast be pissed) then Acres is a lock at 11. Looking forward to further insights in the coming fortnight to see who's gonna drop into our lap at 13 (hoping for a similar situation to Menzel like last year).

Out of the second lot - I would like Freeman, Crouch, Dunstan or McCarthy, I'm not overly excited by Gardiner or Taylor.
More excited about Gardiner if we take a KPP. Could be our long term succession plan for Jamison with his bad shoulders. Reports and highlights of Gardiner playing forward and back looks a little like Tomlinson. Might be a reach, but he looks aggressive.

Gardiner could win this year's title of best Geelong Falcons player ever.

You've inspired me to look at his highlights package again.

Geez, Dunstan looks and plays a lot like Heath Scotland. For that reason I think he may be a stretch for us at 13, but he certainly looks the goods and if he has leadership material, he could be a nice get for someone.

Not sure about Salem myself, his highlights, whilst certainly impressive are typical of the old adage that everyone looks good in a highlight package. (Hell, I was good in my wedding video, but the ex will tell you I didnt measure up.) His numbers are fairly low actually and I've read that he's not a volume player at all which is what I would want at 13. With Murph and Juddy getting tagged constantly we need a inside ball winner with a bit of toe IMO.

I'd prefer Freeman or Couch myself, and I think Freeman will slide from what I have read. Brisbane said to be into McCarthy, with Brown getting older and having just delisted Cornelius. That may push a few down, which sees MEL get a better option to Freeman, COLL I've read are looking at Lennon, WCE all over Sheed and RICH said to be into Salem themselves. In my reckoning, that leaves Freeman open to fall to 13. Been compared to the great man #5 himself and i dont find the comparison a long bow to draw myself. If I'm wrong in my order of selections, I think Couch with his ability to get the pill and often, would be a nice addition to our mids. Huge pedigree and is really well rated by observers from what I've read.

Whether it have any foundation or not, this seems to an interesting and somewhat novel outlook on this years draft.
Crouch and Taylor have really been pushed a long way back to where others may have had them and in particular for the fact that some have them falling to our selection.
Good read from someone who clearly has a reasonable idea on what is going on. Also interesting looking back at last year and he had Menzel as his #2 selection overall.

Obviously the Power Rankings are going to be a bit different to the overall picks, but I refuse to believe that on talent alone (amongst a few other things) that Crouch and Taylor are in that 40-50 range. Crouch may be 10-25 and Taylor the same but no way they're that low.

Taylor described as potentially the best player to come out of Geelong Falcons by his coach. 42? Pfft. Worthy of any pick between 9-15.

EDIT: In saying the above, everyone's entitled to their own opinion and we don't really know until the day. I'll personally wait for Emma Q's phantom a few days prior before getting my hopes well and truly up.

on numbers you could make a case for crouch to be the best player in the tac cup this year. no way is he 50 although the poster did say he was only 50 because he wanted to write about him

What kind of excuse is that, putting a player down the pecking order to so he can write about him earlier. A bit shady.

I actually read it that he does not rate Crouch in the top 50, but to write about him he had to include him at 50

That Footy Tragic guy has no clue, unless he's just putting names to get a bit of "wow" factor for his draft so it stands out.
His draft last year was pretty far off the mark
GWS were never going to take Menzel at #2
many others well off the mark.

There were strong suggestions that GWS would take the chance on the talent.

Wells nominated Menzel as the first player he would have selected also. You don't often hear that from a competitions recruiter.

If that was a power ranking however, it would be different.
Rogers said he rated Menzel as the second best player in the draft.
and as Harker just mentioned above, Stephen Wells, one of the competition's best recruiters, rated him as the first player he'd pick.

Just looking back at Knightmares strike rate in the past two seasons

Knightmare had an ALMOST EXACT strike rate for the top 15 in 2012

Real| Knightmare
1. GWS Whitfield | Whitfield
2. GWS O'Rourke | O'Rourke
3. GWS Plowman | Plowman
4. MELB Toumpas | Toumpas
5. WBD Macrae | Stringer
6. WBD Stringer | Macrae
7. PORT Wines | Wines
8. BRIS Mayes | Mayes
9. RICH Vlastuin | Vlastuin
10. ESS* Danniher | Danniher
11. CARL Menzel | Menzel
12. GWS Jaksch | Corr
13. GC Lonergan | SImpson
14. GWS Corr | Jaksch
15. NOR Garner | Wood

Apart from Corr/Jaksch and Stringer/Macrae at different picks but to the same team, then he only got 2 out of the top 15 wrong

Real | Knightmare
1. GWS Patton | Patton
2. GWS Coniglio | Coniglio
3. GWS Tyson | Tyson
4. GWS Hoskin-Elliot | Buntine
5. GWS Buntine | Hoskin-Elliot
6. PORT Wingard | Wingard
7. GWS Haynes | Tomlinson
8. BRIS Longer | Greene
9. GWS Tomlinson | Longer
10. GWS Sumner | Sumner
11. GWS Greene | Haynes
12. BRIS Docherty | Docherty
13. GWS Adams | Smith
14. GWS Smith | Adams
15. RICH Ellis | Markworth

Buntine/Hoskin-Elliot and Tomlinson/Haynes are in the wrong places but at the right teams, Longer/Greene and Ellis/Markworth are the only two he got wrong again.

To me this shows he has
1. A good understanding of what teams are looking for (Brisbane taking Longer is the exception as they didn't need a ruckman as badly as GWS did)
2. He has good mail, or can process and filter rumours well
3. He has a good eye for talent as most clubs draft best available and he gets them pretty much bang on the money every time.

He posted his last "phantom draft" in the same thread, this year he's doing a "power ranking" which is irrespective of teams picks and prefernces

I know Menzel was a gun and the second best player in that draft but he was never going to go at #2 because of his injury history

We got a steal.
