blah blah blah..science..pfft...

Just pick players that can play football...If a club with 40 listed players, probably 100 staff involved can not set the trend for impressionable 18 year olds then football is a long way behind the rest of the world..
They won't make it if they're not committed. Dayle Garlett would be playing if he was as driven as Tuohy and Armfield. Club's can only do so much for these players.
So for me, its the best available KP player and then take some risks to get the best footballers regardless of personality and get them towing the line..
How do you get someone to toe the line after our experiences with Fevola?

Plus the rest of the guns who didn't make it or have underachieved for various reasons.

Each draft pick costs the clubs roughly around $150,000 or more. Clubs aren't going to piss that up against the wall on someone who won't fit into the team and the culture. No way, no how. With all the interviews they do plus the psych report, they'd know these players inside-out. No to anyone who won't fit into our team and create the culture we want to build at Carlton.

I don't know much about Mitch Thorp 'the person'.

But the idea of getting a mature age, talented and athletic KPF... that would be a great scenario if it came to pass.

oh boy wowee

Thorp officially has a bandwagon, and its been pulled by big white horses with silver bells on their harnesses. Meanwhile the man himself has morphed into a cross between Matthew Pavlich and Saint Christopher. We MUST get him. Pick 13 I say!

As a matter of interest, is it just our board or do others have a Thorp bandwagon as well?

Mitch Thorp is not a true KPF, he is more a 194\195cm flanker. If you had a forward line of Henderson, Resting Ruckmen and then Mitch Thorp it would work well.

Even in the TSL, he spent a big chunk of time in the midfield, his role would be similar to Waite when he plays forward. He did manage 70+ goals in the TSL playing this role so getting on the score board should not be an issue.

Emma Quayle thinks that McCarthy is a big chance to get to either Collingwood or Brisbane at Picks #6 or #7 ... which is probably a firm indication that he probably won't slip to us and as a result, will push one of the more highly rated (at least on BF) midfielders to fall to Pick #13.

But things are more serious now. McCarthy hasn't played since that day, though he's not far off being able to run properly and start training again. He'll be drafted next week and he won't have to wait long: he's a chance to go as high as pick six or seven, and won't get past the teens. He is this year's X factor.

It could end up like this:

GWS – Boyd
GWS - Kelly
St Kilda - Billings
WB – Aish
GC – KK
Coll – Scharenberg
Bris – McCarthy
North – McDonald
Melb – Salem
Coll – Bontempelli
WCE – Sheed
Rich – Lennon
Carl – Freeman/Acres

... am I missing anyone?

That article makes McCarthy out as a space cadet.

Trying to play off this "I'm so chilled i never stress out or care about anything" card.

That plus no athletic ability leads this YouTube highlight watcher to NOT WANT!

Thorp turns into He-Man once he holds aloft his magic sword.

Think of the noise coming out of the CFC over the past couple of months.

Malthouse: More mids needed. Outside run required.

Rogers: Players that fit into the CFC way. Culture important.

Find a fearless, skilled inside/outside mid with leadership abilities and we may just have our man.

Albert Proud would have met that criteria *sigh*

He was interviewed on SEN yesterday morning.
Couldn't have spoken any better about how he has matured since leaving Hawthorn and returning back to Tasmania.
I have no doubt at all a club will pick him up next week.

Acres might be my final bandwagon with his X factor. Don't know how he took a mark running back with the flight. Was almost horizontal when he took that flying grab. Reminds me of Walker who has played everywhere. Similar athleticism and height as Walker. Snapped a goal from 50 off a few steps. Might go to Richmond. Ha ha.

Dunstan fits Rogers's comments with his reported leadership attributes.

Could well be. Just have impression that if we haven't got leaders at the top we may as well build leadership from the bottom up.
Makes for quite a fillip to the senior players having the kids in Menzel, Graham and Buckley working out at the CFC before they get there and still at the club when they head off.

Can't say for sure but there may just be some meat on this statement by Rogers below.
"We put as much science into these decisions as we can, but there is also an element of gut-feel and reflecting on decisions we have made in the past."

Freeman or Dunstan for me. Speed ( MM wants more players who provide run) or big bodied mid with leadership ability. Was all for Crouch but looking at our list we already have Graham.

He aced the 2012 draft - no reason why he can't back it up again this year.
Not sure just yet whether he aced it
#11 Menzel - good player but shouldnt get this pick wrong
#35 Temay - was originally very happy but is still a fair way off senior football
#54 Graham - this may prove to be his best selection

Rookie Draft
Cachia - may struggle to be best 22
Collins - gone
