That logic is flawed, maybe they didnt want to risk missing out on thorpe to the 17 other clubs in the draft, and thought their kpp troubles were too dire to risk missing out, so they guaranteed they fixed that problem by executing a trade.
Along with Carlton, they didn't chase White and Gumbleton in trade week...

Do you actually believe that other clubs will go for Thorp and pass on kids ahead of the picks I mentioned?

Unlikely.

And it's Thorp.

I can't quite understand the angst associated with taking a bloke like Thorp with a low pick...Players at that stage of the draft will always have numerous marks against their name, whether for footballing reasons or attitude ones...We're not talking about first or secound round draft picks here.

At the end of the day, I trust our recruiters to assess who is left and pick the right bloke...but if boils down to adding another trier with limited skills (of which we have many), or a bloke with (alleged) attitude problems but with talent who fills a clear need, then I'm fine with the latter. This is Thorps last chance it, one would hope that keeps him on message and we've now got far more of a disciplinarian as coach...and if it doesn't work out, I really don't think we will have missed out on much.
That's why you go for a Barlow, Carrazzo, Cachia or Curnow ahead of someone like Thorp or D.Garlett. Someone you know who won't be as good, but won't die wondering and leave you looking foolish for taking a flog.

People keep chasing that diamond in the rough when you're digging for potatoes.

You're missing the point. If Thorp wasn't good enough to play for these clubs, then he isn't good enough for Carlton. Their list managers would have considered Thorp v White and Thorp v Gumbleton to fill the second KPF role. Yet they traded instead of waiting and drafting Thorp with 44, 49 or 55 to fill the same role. Thorp doesn't appear to be a cure all like some of our supporters believe.

I see where your coming from but our list has different needs. Collingwood and Freo both have a great KPF and just need someone to help out their premier KPF's. We don't need more filler, we need someone who can make a immediate impact.

Inside Football Mock Draft:

http://www.sen.com.au/inside-footba...13/Inside-Football-Mock-Draft--Nov-12th/62506

1. GWS Giants
Tom Boyd | Eastern Ranges | 199cm | 102kg.
Described as a once in a generation player, Boyd will quickly make the Giants forget about missing out on Lance Franklin to their crosstown rivals. He is a great compliment to Jeremy Cameron and boasts the versatility to player further afield – in the ruck, and also down back, at a pinch.
Wonder how Patton feels these days?
How many once in a generation forwards can one team have at the same time?

Inside Football has us taking Freeman.
Just not particularly excited for him just at this stage and please journos......................no more comparisons to Judd.

Gumbleton - made of glass, Fremantle taking a huge risk, already failed one medical at Carlton
White - who knows if we chased him or any other club for that matter, just because there isn't some bullshit rumour article doesn't mean other clubs didn't chase him.

Plus there is a difference between committing to a player like White with a draft pick and going into the draft and taking the best available. The draft is a beautiful thing where you could get a choice of dozens of players, if Thorp is the best available at the time I am sure a club will take him, that is not neccesarily the same as trading a pick and wasting your chance to look at the best available talent.
With trading you lock yourself into a player like White, perhaps us and other clubs thought we'd rather take our chance to get a standout selection liek Grayham last season.\

What do you suppose that great compliment was? That Jezza has beautiful eyes? A nice butt perhaps?

You're not even considering that using a similar pick on Thorp is more of a risk with his injury history and reputation.

At least the other two have been playing AFL since being picked in the same draft as Thorp.

Pfft his injury history, youre just finding arguments to base your own stubborn beliefs now and you know it, he doesnt have any degenerative, or systematic injuries, he had a couple of foot injuries which happenned to coincide, he hasn't got the type of injuries that ruin careers like Back issues, weak hamstring/groins, ostitispubis, etc etc
And I am yet to see anything OF NOTE about his reputation which isn't countered by other sources sugesting the complete opposite.

You seem to be foaming at the mouth over this. I'll be LMFAO if we pick him. :D

I don't think he is as bad as the bee in your bonnet suggests...

oh boy wowee

Thorp officially has a bandwagon, and its been pulled by big white horses with silver bells on their harnesses. Meanwhile the man himself has morphed into a cross between Matthew Pavlich and Saint Christopher. We MUST get him. Pick 13 I say!

As a matter of interest, is it just our board or do others have a Thorp bandwagon as well?
Also Thorp is that tough he makes Chuck Norris pull his bandwagon around for him, just for fun :p
