I'm very much getting around the idea of Thorpe, in fact I'm falling in love with the idea.

Will anyone give me 7-1 that we will pick him up AND that he will kick 4 goals in a game in 2014?

A fit and firing 24 year old key forward who was taken a pick before Joel selwood is just what the doctor ordered!

Hendo can chill at chb all year and rack up am AA with Jamo.

2014 will be the Thorp show!

And I think the main conflicting issue on the Carlton board at the moment is there are a lot of posts, like Coona Blues above, showing reasonable, well researched information with the pros and cons and an objective risk assesment, but in contrast to that, there are a lot of posts, under whispered breaths, with nothing buy innuendo and rumour, how can a debate be civil when one side doesnt share its "information" and only talks as if it is a self evident fact and the other side is trying to discuss

I'm on the 'let's get Thorp' bandwagon! If he stays injury free, he could help fill the most gaping hole in our list. I think Rogers comments regarding the best available 'for Carlton' are more in reference to Garlett.

Go Thorpy! Prove to the haters that you can make the grade!

Clubs aren't stupid ??
St.Kilda
Collingwood signing Russell and Lynch
St.Kilda
Essendon* :D
St.Kilda
Every club passing on Jack Darling
St.Kilda
Brisbane (crazy vossy)
St.Kilda

etc etc etc ...

Clubs have all learned a lot in recent times................including St.Kilda :)
Remember that all clubs passed on a top ten talent only 12 months ago.
Would Richmond go down the Martin path again given their time over?
Maybe but it may also be fair to say that Richmond have invested overs endeavouring to keep Martin in check.

But yes, there will always be someone that will stick their heads outside their "culture" parameters to take a chance on talent with the view of getting them right.
I just don't think it will be as often as it used to be though. Every club has experienced the bad apple syndrome. It's just not worth it.

Anyway back to the draft.
Unless Lennon or Salem fall into our lap, I feel that we may see a player whose surname begins with D come our way with #13

I'll laugh out of bemusement. It's pretty naive to think that club's can change a player, yet we can't get Waite on the park and some of our first round picks to go the next level. Yet Thorp almost deserves more respect and consideration than an injury prone Waite, the durable Gibbs and other players mentioned on this page. I can't go there.
As long as the club has done their due diligence on Thorp and they think he'd be a good fit for the club, then I think we should certainly have a look at him.

People mature - I dare say everyone on this forum would have changed between the ages of 18 and 24. Most people grow up and move on from going out and getting smashed every weekend. There are some obvious exceptions of course.

I've said for a while now that I'd be perfectly happy should either Dumont or Dunstan end up in Navy Blue.

Both appear to be hard bodies who could possibly contribute from the get go and have the ability to play through the midfield as well as off the flanks.

More importantly both seem to be very solid in both body and mind with leadership capabilities. It is critical we start developing young leaders and either of the two D's would be a positive step on that front.

It feels that way doesn't it?

Wasn't Dunstan touted as a top 2 or 3 prospect at the start of the year? Not that that matters but he does look like a good fit for us.

So do think that Rogers was bluffing when he stated that we'd be after more of an outside/distributor? I'm not so sure, also are the two D's too much like Nicky?

I get that your from Tasmania SC, but I just can't get my head around he can still be that bad.
If he is that keen on re-igniting his AFL career, I just can't see him still getting up to his old tricks.
Tough to do when it's buried so deep in the sand :p

You answered your own question in that last sentence.

Put your baiting aside and explain to everyone why the Dogs wouldn't see Thorp as best 22 or depth if Jones breaks down.

Watch Hawthorn overlook the tall would be the perfect plug and play replacement in Franklin's role.

According to FB rumours (read: CRAP).

Fremantle are set to pip Carlton in the race for the services of launceston co-captain and former pick 6 in the 2006 national draft, Mitch Thorp.

Fremantle are linked to Thorp at pick 37, which is two picks before Carlton's pick 39.

The blues do not hold a second round selection after trading it in the deal that secured Andrjes Everitt.

Thorp was famously selected before Joel Selwood in the national draft in 2006.

-they could be playing funny buggers
-the article could be bullsh1t
-they might have more confidence in developing the ones they have
-they aren't in the position we are of potentially challenging in the next year or two and are happy to take the time developing an 18 year old with less questions marks on attitude
-they might be stupid and making a mistake, (hawks took him ahead of selwood) it happens.

We have a window of a couple of years until GC and GWS win the next 10. Why not have a punt on a reformed KPP talent that could contribute as soon as rd1?
