Typical of our supporter base to deride our players and defend outsiders. Pathetic.
That's a stretch. Where did he deride anybody? He mentioned players that got a second go at it and he mentioned they weren't as highly credentialed or talented. That speaks nothing about work ethic or other attributes or their ability to be AFL players. Surely you're not going to label our supporter base pathetic every time they draw a comparison whereby one of players isn't considered as good as a player elsewhere in someone's opinion? If our squad were all as good as every player anywhere else, we'd never lose.

I'm not sure you are helping discussion when go that route in regards to non venomous posts. Maybe save it for the plethora of player A is a spud posts that occur after each match.

It may or may not be a reasonable opinion to hold re talent given Thorp has no decent form in the AFL but I can look past the sub arguments and see the analogy he was trying to draw to further discussion.

What?

You'd take quality 18 year olds with the character of Judd, Kreuzer, Henderson, Gibbs, Menzel and Nick Graham on every day of the week.

"It's not rare that as I'm leaving, Nick's still in the rooms. Either getting treatment, doing some touch or just trying to improve himself."

Rowe, Gumbleton, Curnow, Barlow and Podsiadly have overcome more obstacles than Thorp to get contracts. Gumbleton was crippled by a back injury. Rowe was delisted and beat cancer. Pods was delisted by the Pies. Toiled away in the VFL before getting another chance. Barlow was overlooked and broke his leg.

Curnow was leading the Liston Trophy before breaking his ankle. One of the fittest players in the AFL with his work rate.

You could put Mark Austin in the same boat. Aussie looks to have survived at the Dogs after being injury prone at Carlton. They keep working hard without blowing their chances like the Thorps of this world.

They clearly have more character and want than Thorp.

How many supporter bases do you actually know?

It's not a stretch. I can't agree with the suggestion that Rowe, Curnow and Cachia lacked Thorp's credentials AND talent. More biased reasoning. The likes of Rowe, Cachia and Curnow all performed at a high standard in a better league than the TSL. Just a case of talking them down to justify picking Thorp, whilst ignoring the question marks clubs appear to have against him.

Plenty of players get second chances. They need to have the right character to make it a league as cut throat as the AFL. Only need to consider the likes of Brad Dalziell and Jordan Gysberts who didn't make it. The common denominator that gave these guys another chance is obvious.

Callum Twomey ‏@AFL_CalTwomey 8 Nov Fair few clubs like Zak Jones. Should be a top-20 pick. Geelong, Fremantle, Richmond among those who could consider the tough half-back.

GWS Boyd
GWS Kelly
St.K Billings
WBD Scharenberg
GCS Kolodashnij
Coll Aish
Bris Salem
Melb Lennon
Coll Bontompelli
WCE Sheed
Rich Jones
Carl Dunstan/Acres/Freeman/Dumont/Cripps

Don't believe in sliders, but I'm looking forward to getting our best of the rest. Harder to predict our man with Rogers being the head honcho for just one draft. Should be an interesting night with our second and third picks a fair way back.

Hope we can get a slider. Any of Freeman, Scharenberg, Lennon or Bontempelli sound good to me.
Foot issues just demonstrate this kids one dimensional game and attitude. If he hasn't learnt to run on his hands by now = do not want.

Honestly cannot remember a draft year, apart from the obvious Number One pick, where the next godknows how many, could be pulled from a hat.
Its been said that this is a week draft, maybe it might end up like the 2003 draft with only a handfull of players actually any good and most delisted within 4 years

Jones going to Richmond would mean we don't need to rely on McCarthy going top 10 for a 'slider' (for lack of a better word) to be available like Freeman.

When's the last time we used that line anyway?
Around 12 months ago.

2 Nov 2012 ... Rated by some as the second-best player in the draft, "Menzel to me was actually pick two and it was hard to split him for pickone," Carlton recruiting chief Shane Rogers said.

If he speaks on behalf of 17 other supporter bases, yes.
Speak about the one that...

Wanted Yarran flailed because he didn't win the GF sprint.
Watson delisted before getting attached to Thorp.
Jeered Kreuzer, Henderson, Collins, Rowe and others.

No better than Walls accusing someone like Kreuzer of ducking his head in a game.
