What is wrong with people having opinions based on this?

You've done it yourself many many times using youtube highlights clips of TAC, Champs & SANFL/WAFL matches. No need to talk down other peoples opinions if you don't have one yourself. And if you do have an opinion, share it.

I've only seen limited amounts of this years crop, but the sorts of types of players being thrown around in here seem just the sort of players we're looking for. Whether or not they're any good, time will tell but its a good discussion.
I don't have any bandwagons other than the types of players we need. Haven't done that for years.

Talking down people playing follow the leader.

Work ethic

Leadership

These are attributes even more intangible than performance stats and useless if the bloke can't get a kick.

Not really.

These things can be readily seen (or not) in any given player during any given game. On the assumption he has the basic skills ticked off these are the sort of attributes that separate the guy who might play fifty or hundred games of reasonable footy without offending anyone whilst taking home a nice little paycheck vs the guy that becomes one of the first picked every week.

As an example Kade Simpson displays all of the above and is picked to play every game because of it.

if we do end up with a couple of first round picks I'd go sheed, seems more rounded than most others this year with leadership qualities and crouch, a clearance specialist, possibly the best at that area from this year's crop.
One trait they both have, a very important one, tough as nails.

Kade Simpson also has courage, good skills and a solid football brain. Plus his consistency is of a very high level over a long period.

Yes really. The conversation was discussing drafting.

I understand that. We should be drafting people with those attributes was the original point right?

The attributes mentioned are quite tangible whether it be a young draftee or seasoned vet.
Garbage - 17 year old leader? Of course. And my point remains, no point recruiting someone you think will be a great leader if he is a shit player. And leave Maxwell out of it.

Second bit first: my original post mentioned the footballing skills are presumed to have been ticked off before going after someone. Read that as I agree, don't draft a player who can't play.

Re the first bit: absolutely you could see leadership traits in a 17 year old. I'm not suggesting we make him captain of the club on his first day, but any recruiter doing his job properly who has zeroed in on someone that may be worth drafting should definitely be looking at said player's relationship with his peers. Does he bring others into the play, does he have voice on the field, does he set the tone for his team by the way he plays, is he the current captain of his team, do the other players listen when he speaks.

Don't have to be a crusty old guy to show leadership or be a leader.

Decision making and good kicking skills should also be at the top of that list as well.

Two quality mids, one quality tall forward and one quality small/mid defender.

Are we able to get them? Who knows --> past two drafts seem to have been ok but before that it has been nothing short of woeful. Players will be traded and if there is a draft the club needs to nail good, it's this one.

In fear of posting in the wrong thread, does anyone suggest we could get a 2nd rounder out of Robinson? Possibly GWS who don't really need there pick 18, and could do with a hard big bodied mid. We could use this pick to grab Gardiner as a developing defender.

If we were offered a 2nd rounder for Ronbinson I would take it and run so far, Yiannis Kouros would be choking on my dust.

no way. Robinson is still young and will improve. You cant put a value on his courage, what he does is team lifting and every side needs one of those players. Once he gets smarter about his disposal Robinson will be a very good player
