I know you'll go with someone like a Paul Bower to illustrate this, but he was the AA CHB in that year.
Steven Browne showed enough at junior level to justify his selection. Just not sue what happened with him.

Anyone else?

What do people think of Ben Lennon?

Rohan Kerr LOL! ;)

i reckon Cameron McCarthy looks good but Injury ended his carnival, would be happy with Lennon tho.

While talking about our recruiters, was thinking on the weekend who was the last home grown star that we've had; fev and before that probably kouta.
Only two players I could think of in the last 10-12 years who could win a game off their own boot.

Pretty sure every other club could name a couple of recent stars; damning on our recruiters.

I like Lennon Heard his developed his tank, so he can essentially play across the ground. Excellent HFF. Imagine him paired with Menzel.

if we lose and WCE and Brisbane and North win our pick would be #6, just realised then that's pretty low. What a horrid season only good thing from that is maybe Cam McCarthy would be around at our 2nd pick. (if the broken leg scares clubs off, he has a fantastic pair of hands)

Big fan of Freeman for our first but if it is 6 who could we pick up?

Probably because of his very modest recruiting in the national draft. There are some reasonable players there but he has failed to draft key players (onballers and key position players) through the national draft. He has failed to draft quality with later picks. Basically unless we have had really high picks (even some of them are just so so) we haven't drafted well in the national draft. Hughes' drafting in the national draft has been very modest. He has made up for it by drafting well in the rookie draft. We are very lucky that we have got some really good players through trades.

Top 5 picks are a given, any half decent recruiter will be able to pick reasonable players with a top 5 pick. In fact first round picks are/should be just about a given. Father son picks and trades don't really come under good recruiting. The thing about the list of Hughes drafted players are that the early ones are good but looking back you would change nearly any of those picks. The other thing is that there are only 3 (arguably less) decent players on our list taken from outside the first round which is disgraceful. Hughes is just an ok under 18 year old talent. It's not realy bad drafting but it's not good either.

Dom Sheed? Was the captain of WA at the U18 Championships and won the Larke Medal which is the medal for the best player in the Div 1 competition even though he broke his collarbone in the 2nd last game. Good solid player from what I saw of him. And according to an article on the AFL website by Emma Quayle, he's expected to go around Pick 16. Could pick him up a little earlier?

If betts goes FA as rumoured where does the compensation pick lie
i.e end if first/second round or directly after our pick.

If we get a first or second for ed I can see us trading it out.
If Eddy goes as a FA and we happen to pick up a player from another club as a FA we would probably get no compensation for Ed.

100% agreeing with you there! although number 1 draft pick is picked by the Media so Hughes really didn't pick them.

I personally don't think I'd change any of the three pick 1's we currently have. Murphy is a given, Kruezer is undoubtably underrated by opposition supporters and is one of the most important components of the team. The only one you could argue is Gibbs. But I still wouldn't give him up.

I agree, Gibbs was the clear stand out in his draft year he dominated in the SANFL, Selwood also played great footy and speaking to guys that played with him for vic country said he was an absolute freak but he is still one knee injury away from early retirement fortunately for him he hasn't had one since his TAC cup days. Selwood slipped for the same reason Menzel slipped, high risk high reward situation.

Kruezer as you say doesn't get much plaudits because he doesn't rack up Cox like possessions but he is every bit as good as Cotchin.

you seriously wouldn't change Gibbs (Pick 1) For Selwood (Pick 7)

I didn't say that... with the benefit of hindsight its a no brainer but..... at the time Gibbs was the clear choice

And who is to say Selwood would be the same player he is at Geelong at Carlton? He was recruited into a professional club with good leaders. Unfortunately for Gibbs, he was drafted to a club that was bereft of leadership and professionalism until Juddy came along. But even then, we are still majorly lacking in comparison to Geelong.

Kane Lambert from the Northern Blues worth any attention?
I'm a bit of a fan of Lambert. Has been in the best players for the NB most weeks. I would look at him with a late pick in the ND or in the Rookie Draft. He would mostly be depth, but if needed he would be able to step up to AFL football & acquit himself well. He finds plenty of the ball, is a goalkicker & is good overhead (waiting for a certain poster to talk Lambert down).

What does he bring over someone like Ellard?, similar type players, is Lambert better over head?

WCE are in an interesting position.

Do they rebuild? or tweak?

I really feel like MM wants to make his mark with his own list and that means trading out players who he wouldn't have selected in the first instance.

They would love him after he tore them a new one earlier in the season. Dont think WCE arent in every WA players ear to come back home and to be a superstar, be around their family, all the WA girls you can handle etc etc.
