The reality is we can stand to lose one of the amigos and one of the ruckmen which should draw a pick in the teens to 20's. If we dont go after pick one hard or trade player for player then we are looking at picks around the 8, 18 and 28 mark (ball parking it) for our first 3 picks I reckon. I am stalwart that we need the BEST in and under, hardest midfielder there is in the draft. A Luke Ball type. Someone whos going to go and get it or tackle like an animal if he isnt first to it. If we have picks around that mark, then we go for the best two of that type of player. See which one wants it more or develops quicker, play them off against each other for the spot. I think we have enough taggers, Curnow becoming elite in his profession, and with Carrazzo on the out I think we will find a permanent replacement in our ranks already. We have seen some consistency from Cachie, and I know that we drafted Temay for that reason although I have heard/seen zero on this board regarding his development. Juddy is also on the way out and we need people who are going to help McLean and Murphy. They are 27 and 26 y.o. respectively.

I watch game after game this year and we just dont close down the space and tackle. All game long we just carrel the opposition because we dont want to let them pass us, only for them to have time to assess and lob a handball over the top or kick to a player who has found some space. We need first hands to the ball to avoid this, or someone who is going to hunt when tackling around the stoppages.

What are the thoughts on who will be the next Scotland for us. Are we planning to draft for someone like that, or do we have someone in the club that can play that type of role?

Thought Temay was our long term replacement for Scotland.

A question for those who follow the draft stuff a little more close.

With Eddie Betts looking more and more likely to leave us under F/A, is there a chance we would take a punt on Dayle Garlett, kid has all the talent in the world but question marks over his ability to keep his head out of trouble. Heard on SEN a week back that he has got his life in order, has a new girlfriend that is keeping him in line and is tearing it up in the WAFL. If we were to take a punt on him, what sort of pick would we have to use to pick this kid up, could be a great replacement for Eddie Betts.

No.

Why not? If the guy has got his life in order, then why not? If you can give me a reason to suggest we shouldn't take him then I will accept it.

I just dont think the club would want somebody who can potentialy pose a threat to the likes of Garlett/Yarran... especially with Eddie gone (who is seen as a role model).

While it may be a good news story for the moment regarding him getting his life back in order (and don't get me wrong, I'm really happy for the kid) - I think that the club would still be wary of his history and the fact that he could go off the rails at anytime and possibly influence other players to go the same way with him (as he did in the AIS).... then again, never say never - it's a calculated risk and given where our club is at currently you could make an argument for our club going either way on him.

Sorry,
Were do you see mitch thorp going (if at all) rumours we were linked to him

Mick was on SEN about a month ago and he said he was a big believer in giving guys second chances.
If he interviews ok, my gut feeling is that we'd be interested. Whether we draft him is an entirely different thing all together.

Aside from a couple of selections, you'd have to think that Hughes' selections were pretty rock solid.
Wasn't his fault the club traded Josh Kennedy & Shaun Grigg.
But even more importantly it's not his fault the development of our players has been poor.

Do you think we need a player like him on our list?

He plays the exact same role as betts, Garlett and Yarran and you could also add in Buckley. With a surplus of these types we certainly don't need another one.

My guess is five picks in national draft all under pick 35.

Wish list maybe, to get extra high picks, but some judicious trading on top of a probable Betts compensation pick could make this a reality. If we take Watts as widely rumoured maybe just 3 or 4.
No expert on the young talent, but from watching U18's on Fox, and extensive reading, like the look
of N.Freeman/D.Sheed/M.Crouch with our first C.Salem also in mix.ie best available mid
C.McCarthy(KPF), J.Marsh(versatile, athletic big mid or tall), D.Hourigan(less athletic, but ready to go "tall"
forward) and P.Cripps(mid) in mix thereafter
Hopefully D.McStay(KPD) will slip to late 2nd/early 3rd
Ruckmen prospects T.Nankervis and M.Apeness hopefully available later in proceedings.
In summary
Would love the club to find a way to pull 2 of the listed mids(have overlooked the smaller/lighter types), 1 of the tall forwards (Marsh would be a bit each way as could potentially fill either role), a McStay or similar in the middle range (cant see us using a higher pick on Gardiner touted as best KPD), we "have" to trade out 1 of our rucks, so bringing in 1 or more with a later pick / rookie pick would be essential (would lean to Nankervis simply because a year older).
Should trades or delistings leave us with any more picks after these and 2 rookie upgrades, best available outside mid types please.

These two prospects sound good to me.

Darcy Lang
Club: Geelong Falcons
D.O.B.: 21.11.95
Height: 181cm
Weight: 77kg
Dashing and versatile midfielder who wins his own ball and can also run and carry on the outside, very good player one on one on the inside as well as a neat user of the ball by hand & foot. Was in terrific form for Vic Country in the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships averaging 19 disposals before unfortunately breaking his leg in the final game at Etihad Stadium.

James Tsitas
Club: Geelong Falcons
D.O.B.: 3.3.95
Height: 181cm
Weight: 78kg
Medium midfielder with an appetite for the contest. His work rate and endurance are excellent, allowing him to get to a number of contests. He excels at stoppages and displays very clean hands. Shows very good courage and rarely fumbles the football, and can also go forward and influence the scoreboard. A tough inside player who finds a lot of the footy, averaging 19.8 disposals for Vic Country this year. Co-captain of the Geelong Falcons, indicating his leadership potential. Graduate of the AIS-AFL Academy in 2013.

Hope their available late in the second through to the 4th round....

Any chance of us picking up Eli Templeton in the second/third round?

Eli Templeton

If number one picks were the be and end all we would be the best team in the comp right now. Better off putting some actual research into our recruiting instead of just trading for Boyd because he is the next big thing.

Saw a small snippit in the Heraldsun yesterday saying that Geelong had an interview lined up with Dayle Garlett last week when they were in Perth. Their recruiting team and even Scott was there, and Garlett didn't even show up. Apparantly they just got told he "wasn't available".

You would think after what happend last year he would be doing everything right to get a chance, not missing interviews.

You have to question his dedication to become an AFL footballer.

Pretty sure that was Port Adelaide IBB.
Thanks. I think you are right HBF.

Did a search on google but I couldn't find the article. Wasn't 100% on which team it was, but for some reason Geelong sprung to mind.

Either way he should not be missing interviews. If he isn't even dedicated enough to make time for a hour long interview in his home state, how is he going to have the dedication to make it as an AFL footballer, most likely interstate?
