Put it this way: Should an Olive Wines/Todd Viney be available at our pick, I think we'd swallow him up.

Matt-Crouch.jpg

Height: 181cm Weight: 80kg
Team/Club: Victoria Country/North Ballarat Rebels/Beaufort
Position: Inside Midfielder
Player Comparision: Joel Selwood
Player Profile

One of the standouts in the TAC cup before going down with a broken wrist, make no bones about it – Matt Crouch is quite truly a gifted footballer. As a medium sized midfielder, Crouch’s bread and butter is his hard work at the stoppages, where he is a specialist and rightfully so – regarded as one of the best inside midfielders of the draft this year. Crouch attacks a lot of the ball, and defensively is fantastic, averaging 5 tackles a game in the TAC cup, and 6 clearances per match. Crouch has very quick hands, is quick to get boot to ball in a pressure situation, and although his work on the inside has been nothing short of phenomenal, in 2013 he has established his outside game, which sees him inside the top 10% at TAC Cup level for handball receives, demonstrating his ability to spread. Crouch has fantastic awareness, can sum up a situation very quickly, and is quite a good kick of the ball when given space. He is also the younger brother of Adelaide’s Brad Crouch, who was taken as the number 2 mini draft selection in 2011

(so that's what he looks like)

First Pick (~Pick #11): Dom Sheed/Matt Crouch

Compensation Pick (for Betts - ~Pick #20): Marcus Bontempelli

2nd Pick (~Pick #35): Billy Hartung

... forget about the talls in this draft - I'd only take a speculative one within the 3rd Round.

I literally no nothing about Marcus Bontempelli, but I did notice that Knightmare has him as 1 of three potential superstars from the draft. What are your thoughts on him?

I don't know all that much about him either TBH, but from what I've been told and the limited vision I've seen - 191 cms midfielder with HUGE room for improvement.

Has X Factor and makes good decisions, dual sided (left footer though) .... just tends to go missing sometimes on the ground.

Looks a good type though.

MARCUS BONTEMPELLI

Height: 190cm
Weight: 82kg
Team/Club: Victoria Metro/Northern Knights/Marcellin
Position: Midfielder
Player Comparision: Scott Pendlebury
Draft Range: 15-25
Player Profile

Incredibly athletic, tall and super versatile – Marco Bontempelli possess all the attributes of what the modern game demands. Fantastic athleticism, very agile, plays tall or small, is versatile enough to play off a back flank (where he has drawn comparisons to a Grant Birchall type), or roaming the midfielder, where his height, awareness, vision and clean disposal in traffic have likened him to a Scott Pendlebury type. Bontempelli – the cousin of St Kilda’s Nick Dal Santo, also has a fantastic leap, and when forward can play like a key position forward, down back he can fly over packs to kill the ball or take an intercept mark, and below his knees he has sticky fingers. If this wasn’t enough, Bontempelli has elite endurance – he just runs all day. He’s not afraid to take on the responsibility of the kick-in’s, and will transition to AFL level with ease. Bases his game as an outside midfielder, who runs and carries, and can transition the ball over 100m with a left foot that serves him well over 60 metres. The highlight of Bontempelli’s game, are spread across key areas; marking, tackling and inside 50′s where his disposal into the forward line more often than not finds a target, lace-out. Bontempelli’s unique abilities and size, makes him a huge point of interest for clubs that have their first pick featuring in the 15-25 range.

He's a great young bloke, we'd do well to pick him up.
His outside game is pretty underrated imo.

Thats sold me!

I wonder how he compares to someone like Bootsma who our recruiters also suggested could push into the midfield.

my head tells me Couch or Sheed for our first pick but my heart for some reason craves Freeman
Kid will have the weight of a nation on his shoulders by the time ND comes around.

I read the write up on Bontempelli, and my immediate thought was we need this guy but if he's so fantastic why is he expected to be drafted within the range of pick 15-25, what's his weaknesses?

Love the sound of Crouch from what I can guess is his only weakness is his speed, usually this is a very detrimental factor (re Graham slipping) but to have him rated so high with questions on speed just shows how good he is.

I'm going to play it safe and say that if Tom Boyd is available at our first pick then we will take him :p

Thank you.
sounds similar to Patrick Karnezis both tall predominately outside players.
I think guys like this clubs tend to miss use, they need to be played in the midfield or off a wing but clubs almost always play them off HBF which in most cases exposes there lack of an defensive game (which imo comes latter in career) and therefore destroys confidence which hence destroys there game.
Not saying guys like that will never be good player they just need to be treated like a Pendlebury rather than a Gibbs

Guys, heard good things about Lewis Taylor (Squizzy) from Geelong Falcons.
Big raps about having a sensational TAC cup season who is fast and aggressive even if he is short. I like the idea of a kid who dominates where he is just looking at Joel Selwood, Allen Christenson and Dan Talia rather than looking for potential as I think we got burned on Sugar Lucas and Boots that cost first round picks.
I not saying that they are bad players but seem to be more "project" players.
As a club we need to be really careful over the next 2 years with our recruitment otherwise things could get ugly for CFC.:(

I like him just wonder if he's a victim of being surrounded by good players at TAC cup level, or on the other side of that if those other blokes weren't running around in the same team he'd be getting more of the ball and considered higher rated.

Don't have to be a star during the TAC cup to be a good AFL player. The guy would be a little bit of pace/class to go along with whoever we pick up with our first rounder. According to this he may be available to pick with our third rounder.
