Why is Bontempelli the man?

Perhaps someone who has seen them play can give us their view on the players.

Ive seen him play 1 tac game before the champs, im not saying i know he'll be a superstar or is the be all, but personally i think he has all tools to be a great player... could be our next Kouta, then again maybe a complete flop... just my opinion on him.

But yes if someone who has seen him play regularly a bit more could shed some light that would be great!

N i think a 50 poss, 10 goal footy game or whatever it was, albeit school footy, would suggest he has some idea on how to play?

There would be plenty of coaches that see gold in their own, but to be fair Graham was generally touted as being top 30 last year.

Wouldn't mind a few more picks in the 50s that show as much as this kid has in his first year.
From what I've heard he's also not the type who will allow himself to go backwards.

On nothing more than the ~4 quarters of football I've seen him play I can see how he slid...disposal is average (in the traditional sense of the word), he is slow, and he is not a big build like a Barlow or Josh Kennedy to be a genuine inside bulldozer.

This is not to say I don't think he's a great pick up, but I'm certainly not standing in slack-jawed amazement how he got to us either.

I've seen closer to 40 quarters of Graham this year and he has very good disposal and vision.

Is courageous, tackles well and kicks goals. His speed won't be an issue considering the positive attributes.

Happy to bow to the greater knowledge Harks and I hope the good disposal translates to AFL level...just saying that I can see why a player of his type would slide.

.

No knowledge Kramer but just what I saw.

Think he was in our best 8 of 9 weeks.
You don't get lucky achieving that and especially considering he was coming off a knee injury. Very confident for this kids future.

We've got a few 6'5s going around in the early games, and they take time to develop, Watson will probably stay, what do you reckon of the others......all now 21 years old???

Have only seen his games at AFL level and he strikes me as a younger clone of Maclean. Is that fair?

The biggest knock on him I would imagine would be his lack of pace. Mac gets away with it but I could also see why a coach would be hesitant to have too many slower players in the one side.

He's a bit quicker than McLean, but like McLean, it is amazing how many contests Graham gets to (if Dylan Buckley got to as many contests as Graham does he would be a regular in our seniors). He is the type of player that brings his teammates into the game with his awareness (as Harks has rightly identified) & is a better user of the ball than some have given him credit for.

Yes, very much like McLean but even at this early stage he seems to have particularly good awareness of his surrounds, which I really like in a player.

Long way to go but as we've heard from McKay and Malthouse, the kid certainly has his head and heart in the right place for wanting to achieve.

Considering he started playing at the half-way point of the year for a knee injury, I couldn't have been more impressed of his efforts.

Thanks Fellas.

Looking forward to seeing more of him next year with a hopefully injury free pre season under his belt.

If Sydney and Geelong go through, then we'll have pick 12 after beating Port twice.

Win-win. :D

1. Greater Western Sydney
2. Melbourne
3. St Kilda
4. Western Bulldogs
5. Gold Coast
6. West Coast
7. Brisbane Lions
8. Norf - Luke McDonald
9. Greater Western Sydney
10. Collingwood
11. Richmond
12. Carlton
13. Port

Pies will pick before us, but after GWS. Ha ha.

Almost the perfect storm to win a final and get an OK pick due to North's F/S pick, Adelaide and Essendon.

PS. Don't care if Dale Thomas pushes our first pick back to 13.

How does our win yesterday impact us next year in terms of fixturing and the new weighted system. Whilst technically we are now 6th surely Essendon isn't ranked 9th for fixturing purposes after cheating??

Kernafides, my gut says the AFL will stick to its guns re ladder when it comes to fixturing. Ie Essendon will get an easier draw than us by virtue of them officially finishing in the middle third of the ladder and us in the top third.

I can't see the AFL doing otherwise for a couple of reasons.

#1 - AFL will be loathe to introduce a new system and immediately make an exception
#2 - I think the AFL weighed up implications of having Essendon finishing 9th (eg finishing last would have advantaged Ess too much in the draft). Not saying they got it right, but I think once the AFL makes a ruling, it is treated as gospel and is followed through until its non-logical conclusion

*except for the times it changes its mind for no apparent reason....

edit: I should be shot for pretending the Herald Sun is an authority on anything, but I just found this quote from one of their articles a fortnight ago: "It means Essendon's draw will be easier than it would have been had they played finals."

ps - sorry for getting a bit off track re draft, but Kernafides started it! :)

So Freeman, Crouch and Lennon are all unavailable now ( I couldn't care less though :) ). Draft Dumont for another big bodied mid and get Thomas for some outside run/skill.

I'm going to be livid if we end up with pick #17.

What does the club think it's doing FFS?
