not sustainable

What I meant is that they are very close and she was the one who helped push him in the right direction. End of the day he was still the one who made the right and wrong choices. Be lying to ourselves if we said there was no risk in getting him.

48 goals and 25 behinds at WAFL level plus plenty of quality touches would surely have him in the top 10 if he getting drafted on talent alone?

edit: Expect WC to pull the trigger then since they won't be able to get Yarran.
I think you have to be careful when assessing players on WAFL form. You look at someone like Luke Blackwell who has won a Sandover Medal & 3 club B&Fs & then remember his inability to make it at Carlton, at a time when we were very ordinary. Andrew Merrington averaged 2 goals a game in the WAFL & yet was not even close to AFL standard. Andrew Krakouer, 3 years after dominating at WAFL level, including in a GF, has been delisted & is unlikely to be picked up by any other AFL club.

This is not a knock on the WAFL, as such, just a cautionary tale when looking at player's achievements on the basis of WAFL form only (if I remember rightly, Yaz kicked 7 goals on debut in the WAFL).

So given we've topped up on Thomas during FA and are set to acquire Michie and Savage during the trade period...

Do we continue to select the best available mid or reach slightly to address a KPP need - e.g. Gardiner (Jamo's shoulders) or McCarthy (for Waite) ?

Yes, I'm aware the last time (2010) we drafted for need didn't go to plan...

Wouldn't be displeased with Gardiner as I've stated, as for forwards... Prob reach for Conlon over McCarthy.... Marginally

Always take the best available, reaching for players is too risky.
Although this year's draft has been said to be quite open after the first 6 or 7 picks.
However, drafting a midfielder would be addressing a need + best available since this is a midfielders draft.

KPP's in this draft are seen to be ordinary other then Boyd and Gardiner though.
The likelihood of us snaring a Jaksch or a Tomlinson aside, we will be stocking up on one or two KPP. (we have only 1 player under 23 taller than 191cm)

Better to pick a safe and reliable option with our first pick than draft a kid with our 3rd rounder just because he's tall?

(Didn't we overlook Talia in favour of best available? :()

Who is Talia o_O ?

I'd like us to use our first rounder to hopefully snatch one the two you mentioned above. Rogers did say that we need 2 mids ( nside and outside mid) plus two KPP's so it wouldn't surprise me if we did draft a KPP earlier then expected. I'm fairly bullish about Watson but another KPP for depth wouldn't go astray.

Apparently a couple of talented talls in this draft. Boyd, McCarthy and Gardiner aside, some defenders in Cameron Giles and Daniel McStay are apparently decent stoppers and possess some rebounding qualities. Up forward a couple red headed options in Mitchell Harvey and Cameron Conlon have potential. I think we'll grab a mature tall in the rookie draft, maybe Thorp or Sully?

The next best
AND THEN?

Ben Lennon will be picked high, but hasn't proven himself as a midfielder and will be picked as one of the smartest forwards in it, with one of the sharpest kicks. Cameron McCarthy is an athletic, marking forward likely to push up the order despite missing the second half of the year with a broken leg, and Kade Kolodjashnij and Marcus Bontempelli are smooth-moving half-backs who could move up the ground. But the first round will be filled mostly with onballers. Lewis Taylor has dash - he's a give-and-goer, a player who takes the game on. Nathan Freeman has some explosiveness and Billy Hartung is quick, smart and able to keep going. He broke Brad Hill's beep-test record at the combine, reaching level 16.6. Those three have the most speed, but there are plenty of others to pick from. Expect Christian Salem, Dom Sheed, Trent Dumont, Luke Dunstan, Matt Crouch and Blake Acres to feature in the first 18-20 picks.
The next best

Not a lot in that article for anyone who is an internet user.
