We have a pure gut running link man in Lucas and we just brought in another one in Daisy if his ankle is right. So suddenly, out on the wings, we have a couple of genuine distributors who can seriously shift the ball about. Lucas needs to slow down a step and give himself more time to think about his execution.

And the best thing about Daisy and Lucas is that they can both impact the scoreboard when they get down to the forward flanks.

Surprisingly sides usually need more than two link up players.

In this trade period we acquired three, I wouldn't be surprised to see us get another in the draft to fill the running HBF void when Simpson, Walker start to age.

Consider my post more of a "we don't need inside mids" then a "get an outside runner" as we have already taken steps in trade period to achieve this.

Meanwhile we are 16th in the league for marks. But 1st for contested marks.

Hampson is gone, so contested marks will drop.
The "bomb it to Eddie" gameplan is dead.

Everitt was recruited to be a link up player between the arcs where he can use his athleticism and size to mark in space. We still need someone to catch the ball inside 50 - e.g. Lucas or Menzel to step up and be a medium marking target.

Those stats were intended to indicate the lack of uncontested marks. AKA the one's you want when linking play.

As previously expressed I'm more railing against recruiting an inside mid, when I feel clearances are a strength, and for picking up either a distributor or a KPP

Not yet - but I'm thinking of taking a week of leave from work just so I can read it in it's entirety.

I have never read Quigley's phantom draft before so I'm just wondering is it any good and hows the accuracy of the range of picks. I'm just asking out of curiosity, no offence in any way.

We're third in the league on clearances. In a year were Murphy played hurt, without Carazzo for most of it and Gibbs wasn't in the middle till the end.

Yet we don't need outside link-up players.

This fetish for inside mids is honestly bizarre. It's obvious that with Murphy, Gibbs, Judd, Thomas, Carazzo, Mclean, Curnow, Cachia, Bell, Ellard etc. so forth being spoon fed by Kreuzer and Warnock we are fine in the clinches. But once we distribute outside? We need gut-runners on the flanks with Mick's gameplan. We need players who get the ball and move it on quickly.
Don't think it's a fetish given it's reportedly a midfielders draft in regards to pick 13. You can't manufacture a player who fits your need for a KPP or an outside mid if there isn't one available and high on your rankings.

A silky inside and outside mid would complement our current list. Would leap at an Ollie Wines type manchild with 13 or 39. Think we'll be looking for tall mids ahead of smaller runners such as Taylor and Hartung. We overlooked Kennedy and Simpson for Menzel after Rogers said his belief was speed kills.

Think this is what Mick would like too.

Add two way runner to the above attributes and there's our man. Who fits the mold who might be available at 13?

Acres, Dumont?

Would be happy with either Freeman or Dunstan too

It's a fetish when people constantly reference a "bull" mid with limited improvement and significant deficiencies as a top choice over more rounded, skillful players. Salem's tough as an old boot but also has skill and composure. Crouch just barrels in and lofts it high. He's another Robinson

What about you LM?

Giving us your Phantom this year?

I have plans to do it but this year is very interesting at around pick 15 onwards.

I keep reading the main mock drafts and I disagree with a number of players and picks, there seems to be a very large variation in names this year. A few of the main loves of the regular mock drafters are placing certain names higher than I would have them. Makes me question a few of my thoughts.

I have a rough top 35 list created, I just have a feeling that due to needs, certain names may jump 10 spots. There are a number of very small midfielders and a real lack of quality talls this year, so where you place those small mids and those few viable talls will be interesting.

It is also getting hard to not fall part of the group think concept. I liked Lennon for a period of time and then a few people that I talk to start to knock him a little and it makes me question my thoughts.

This year I may place a few of my favourites a little higher than I would have in previous years, as I've previously attempted to stick closer to what information I've heard from around the clubs.

I'm also struggling these days as a few of my Adelaide and Vic contacts have closed up shop, so I am basing more information on small clips of vision and the champs.

sharing is caring, bro :)

I've noticed he has at least released his Lennon profile to the BF public, so that is a sign of what the rest of his profiles look like. :)

The annoying part of his player profiles this year is the fact I agree with a few of his more controversial player ratings, makes you want to rethink your thoughts. ;)

Well if you don't do your PD, who do you think we could reasonably attain and who do you think we should?

That may be one of the same or two different players.

I have my personal favourites and I drafted one in the phantom draft (Dumont), but got told from someone with more knowledge than myself that maybe I should have looked for something more dynamic. I think Lennon and Freeman were still around, so maybe those would have been better picks.

I'm thinking one of these players would be a good get.

Salem, Lennon, Freeman, Dumont, Dunstan....

Those seem to be the names that could roughly last to our pick.

Boyd, Scharenberg, Kelly, Billings, Aish - Those names will probably be off the board before our pick.
Bontempelli, Freeman, Sheed - I would hazard a guess these names will be gone as well.

That is eight names down.

KK, McCarthy - Those two could be also locked into the top 12.
Lennon - He could be gone as well.

Then again, I could be completely wrong this year, I have no idea to be honest where clubs will head this year.

Just curious but does anyone have any thoughts on Patrick Cripps over and above the highlights reel?

Looks ok - a nice size for a full-time midfielder.

However, if he is anything like brother, he would probably want to be traded back to Perth after a few years.

Comes from the best WAFL team. :)

I am divided on his chances. When you're 192cm, testing shows he is ~3.2s over 20m, in the bottom 25% for the beep test and 3km.... That worries me a little.

In saying that he is a contested ball winning player, but I am worried.

If you go to the WA draft prospects on the phantom drafting board, there is a great write up on him.

No love for Acres?!

Cheers.

Is certainly a good size and speed, acceleration for a mid that big is not necessarily crucial (think Watson and Kennedy) but the endurance would certainly need work.

Not to say it can't be done but I'm assuming the club will look to someone with more run.
