[q="Bradschi, post: 30871363, member: 95315"]What kind of excuse is that, putting a player down the pecking order to so he can write about him earlier. A bit shady.[/quote]

I actually read it that he does not rate Crouch in the top 50, but to write about him he had to include him at 50

That Footy Tragic guy has no clue, unless he's just putting names to get a bit of "wow" factor for his draft so it stands out.
His draft last year was pretty far off the mark
GWS were never going to take Menzel at #2
many others well off the mark.

If that was a power ranking however, it would be different.
Rogers said he rated Menzel as the second best player in the draft.
and as Harker just mentioned above, Stephen Wells, one of the competition's best recruiters, rated him as the first player he'd pick.

Just looking back at Knightmares strike rate in the past two seasons

Knightmare had an ALMOST EXACT strike rate for the top 15 in 2012

Real| Knightmare
1. GWS Whitfield | Whitfield
2. GWS O'Rourke | O'Rourke
3. GWS Plowman | Plowman
4. MELB Toumpas | Toumpas
5. WBD Macrae | Stringer
6. WBD Stringer | Macrae
7. PORT Wines | Wines
8. BRIS Mayes | Mayes
9. RICH Vlastuin | Vlastuin
10. ESS* Danniher | Danniher
11. CARL Menzel | Menzel
12. GWS Jaksch | Corr
13. GC Lonergan | SImpson
14. GWS Corr | Jaksch
15. NOR Garner | Wood

Apart from Corr/Jaksch and Stringer/Macrae at different picks but to the same team, then he only got 2 out of the top 15 wrong

Real | Knightmare
1. GWS Patton | Patton
2. GWS Coniglio | Coniglio
3. GWS Tyson | Tyson
4. GWS Hoskin-Elliot | Buntine
5. GWS Buntine | Hoskin-Elliot
6. PORT Wingard | Wingard
7. GWS Haynes | Tomlinson
8. BRIS Longer | Greene
9. GWS Tomlinson | Longer
10. GWS Sumner | Sumner
11. GWS Greene | Haynes
12. BRIS Docherty | Docherty
13. GWS Adams | Smith
14. GWS Smith | Adams
15. RICH Ellis | Markworth

Buntine/Hoskin-Elliot and Tomlinson/Haynes are in the wrong places but at the right teams, Longer/Greene and Ellis/Markworth are the only two he got wrong again.

To me this shows he has
1. A good understanding of what teams are looking for (Brisbane taking Longer is the exception as they didn't need a ruckman as badly as GWS did)
2. He has good mail, or can process and filter rumours well
3. He has a good eye for talent as most clubs draft best available and he gets them pretty much bang on the money every time.

He posted his last "phantom draft" in the same thread, this year he's doing a "power ranking" which is irrespective of teams picks and prefernces

I know Menzel was a gun and the second best player in that draft but he was never going to go at #2 because of his injury history

We got a steal.

In my opinion, we got two steals from last year's draft, but only time will tell.

Knightmare is a terrific resource no doubt, but you have to remember that many of these Phantoms get updated as time rolls on.
There are no more games nor trials to assess and one only has the media and clubs handing over some info.
Most of us would get a pretty reasonable top 20 down a day or two before the draft, without even knowing the players.

Knightmares phantoms have changed quite a bit since the end of the season already and may well continue to do so until a day or two before the draft.

EDIT: Yeah, thanks Blugazi for making me waste a few minutes of my life. :p
Was going to post about the same stuff, so thanks Harks for saving me a few minutes of my life :D

Geez, Dunstan looks and plays a lot like Heath Scotland. For that reason I think he may be a stretch for us at 13, but he certainly looks the goods and if he has leadership material, he could be a nice get for someone.

Not sure about Salem myself, his highlights, whilst certainly impressive are typical of the old adage that everyone looks good in a highlight package. (Hell, I was good in my wedding video, but the ex will tell you I didnt measure up.) His numbers are fairly low actually and I've read that he's not a volume player at all which is what I would want at 13. With Murph and Juddy getting tagged constantly we need a inside ball winner with a bit of toe IMO.

Salem's numbers are not low at all. 21, 25, 26, 21, 22 disposals in his TAC Cup appearances. 1.8 goals a game and over 5 tackles a game. 21 disposals and 3 goals in round 2 of the national champs in the only game he played in the midfield.

Dunstan is nothing like Scotland. Dunstan is a big bodied (heavier than Scotland already) inside ball winner who struggles a little with his kicking, Scotland is a HBF/wing who can accurately kick 60 on either foot but doesn't get involved in the grunt work (averaged just over 2 tackles a game this year).

I dont really understand the point youre trying to make. Because he puts in more effort his guesses are worth less?
Regardless if you follow his updates you'll get closer and closer to the mark closer to the draft

The difference is that a day or 2 out from the draft, nearly everyone has a pretty good idea of at least the top 10, and usually top 15.
You shouldn't be comparing that to a phantom done 3 weeks out.

Salem played TAC and nationals mainly as a HBF, the position of choice for kids expected to be on AFL radars. Why do they play mainly HBF? Because that is the easiest position to play and where a kid who is iffy in the midfield is under the microscope can get plenty of footy to show his wares and boost his stats. The positioning of mid size players at Nationals is also guided plenty by clubs wanting to have a look at players in different spots, over the expectations of game results. Those little tid bits comes from ex-TAC Coach, Martin Allison. Hence some of these kids are glorified and then they put nice highlight packages together of them playing all over the field to make them look 'pretty'. Anyway, not a fan at all for our needs, but thats my opinion and never expect anyone to agree.

IMO, Dunstan 'looks' like Scotland in the way he moves and his kicking style is very similar, thats the comparison. Blind Freddy can see the difference in body make-up. Scotto was a midfield player when he first came here IIRC.

Knightmare is the only Collingwood supporter i respect. He takes a lot of time researching and answering everyones questions.

I have respect for a few more after the ASADA business on the ASADA thread.

Salem did not play as a HBF all year, he split time as a forward and a midfielder. I'd say you haven't watched him.

Dunstan is similar to Scotland in the way Joe Daniher is similar to Judd.

So you're saying Salem chooses where he plays in order to boost his chances of being drafted? In what planet does the player select where he gets to play? He sure is a prolific goalkicker for a HBF..?

14 days to the draft: Meet Darcy Hourigan
WEAKNESSES
The knock on Hourigan is his aerobic capacity. His athleticism can improve, and he will need to work on staying in games for longer, and having a more consistent output from contest to contest.

Definitely looks a little chunky...

I like Hourigan - but I doubt he'd get to us at Pick #39.

He's a good size but needs to have work ethic drilled into him it would seem (if that's even possible).

Jack Darling without the motor and athleticism. I hope he can be our version of Siposs (with a better work ethic).

Maybe he will, maybe he won't. His draft range varies from 30-60 on the AFL meet the draftees profile.

A little like Casboult when he first came down to us.
